Date: Sometime before Christmas break

Justin walked inside the Great Hall. He took a deep breath of the big dining area and smelled the menu for the day.

Justin put one index finger up in the air and sniffed the air. "I smell chicken..." He sniffed the air two more times. "Potatoes..." He inhaled solely with his nose deeply one last time. "Corn, sausage, greens. Not bad, not bad."

He strolled through the Ravenclaw table and couldn't find his friends. He shrugged. "They must not be hungry."

"I guess it's just big me out here," Justin said with his hands on his waist. Maybe today, he'd try making a new friend? He looked over to the Slytherin table.

He picked up a piece of roasted potato, threw it up in the air, and caught it with his mouth, walking towards the Slytherin table.

Someone from the Slytherin table called him a Mudblood.

Justin heard that word many times, but still had no clue what it meant. From the tone of their voices though, the word seemed like an insult. He turned to the student who called him a Mudblood.

"Boy, stop. You got gravy dripping down your chin," Justin quipped. He then turned his gaze at the whole Slytherin table. Which one of these Slytherins would become his new friend?

Tommy was eating at the Slytherin table, thinking, or as others may call it plotting, how he could tip the scales of fortune to him becoming a renown member of the Slytherin household. What better way to correctly predict the future than to make it come true after all?

"Ya dirty mud blood" Tommy heard a fellow Slytherin shout. This was not Tommy's first time hearing this, and he knew the basics of what it meant, but he was always puzzled as to how
1) Others knew that the person had mud in their veins (along with blood, of course). As far as he could physically tell, there was no difference between a mud-person and a regular human being, and,
2) How someone could live with mud in their veins?

Tommy thought to himself life truly was full of miracles for individuals to be able to not only live but thrive in such conditions. Tommy thought to himself that given the resilience of this student, living with mud inside his bloodstream, he could learn from him to enhance his physical toughness, a trait often required in quidditch.

Tommy approached the boy, trying to muster his kindest and most welcoming look. He had hoped it would work, given his rather unfriendly appearance. "Excuse me, Tommy Patterson is my name. Pleased to make your acquaintance. Do not heed my Slytherin peers. I, for one, think it is quite impressive that you are one of those individuals that can live with mud in their circulatory system. Given it seems less human, it should still not matter. Take Werewolves, Veela, and Dhampir. All are not exactly human but are treated fairly. Why should they treat mud people any differently? What are the special traits of mud people? Are you able to bend the earth to your heart's desire?"

Tommy knew this would potentially be a strong start to a first time interaction with a student, but he also knew that this information could greatly help him in the future. Perhaps if he was lucky, this boy would become another one of his mentors.

Justin stared at the boy named Tommy in silence, trying to decipher what the boy just said.

"Is... is that what Mudblood means? Mud in your blood? Oh, so they calling me poor?!" Justin said in anger, not understanding what the word actually means.

Justin turned to the boy that called him a Mudblood and grilled him. He pointed at him with his index finger and made sure his eye contact didn't break. "Call me a Mudblood again and I'll beat the **** out of you," the boy said in a deep aggressive voice. Yet his voice was calm and controlled. He glared at the Slytherin boy. The prejudiced student reached for his wand, in which Justin then proceeded to laugh.

"Yeah, okay. Take out a wand because you can't beat me one on one. I'll take it as a compliment," Justin taunted the boy. The Slytherin heckler avoided eye contact with Justin.

He turned to Tommy one more time. "Anyone calls you a Mudblood, bash their head in, or die trying. You got that, Tommy? It's definitely an insult," Justin told the Slytherin boy, even though he himself had zero clue on what it actually meant.

"Nice meeting you by the way. The name's Justin. Justin Shin. Ravenclaw. You're looking at a future magi-zoologist," Justin grinned.

Tommy's jaw dropped. He did not know how to act in such a moment of fierce interpersonal conflict. On hand, the boy had done nothing wrong and Tommy didn't understand how his peer could tell he was a mud person. He was confused if all mud people were poor, society can be classist at times and he didn't think others should be judged on things they could not control. On the other hand, this was Tommy's peer and fellow house mate. Tommy knew what he had to do, defuse the situation.

"It's okay. I am sure you could both beat each other, one in strength and the other in magic. Isn't life just about playing to your own advantages?" Tommy instantly had a sinking feeling that this would only make things worse, so he tried once more to resolve the conflict.

In a desperate effort, he went to the thing he knew he was best at. Life, after all, was about playing to your advantages. He would lie. Tommy tried to keep his eyes as open as he could while rolling them as far back into his head as possible. At the same time, he flung his back onto the floor as hard as he could. He knew this would wind him and hurt a lot more than he would like to admit, but he knew this was the most convincing he could make a fake vision seem.

After of moments of lying on the floor and shaking like this Tommy sat up, holding his head dramatically, if not a little too dramatically, mumbling "I just saw a vision of you two!". He paused for dramatic effect. Too bad Hogwarts does not have a drama club, he thought to himself, before looking at both boys and switching eye contact between the two. "In a year from now, you two will become inseparable friends. Not all bad beginnings must bring strife, set aside your differences and embrace one another in friendship and brotherhood" . Although this attempt was rough at the start, Tommy could barely contain his smile as he was sure this would work on the two boys.

Justin stared down at the Slytherin boy, lying on the ground.

"Dude, shut up and get up," Justin said, beginning to laugh. "What are you doing?" the boy began laughing louder.

"Don't you worry. While I don't want to be friends with dirtbag over there, there is no more conflict. Gravy-chin over there, and I are cool," Justin laughed. He turned to the other Slytherin. "Ain't that right?" Justin said smiling, completely different than the angry boy from earlier. Truth is, Justin wasn't angry. He was just letting another person know of his boundaries. This is what many animals do on top of the food chain. Lions, tigers, bears, and even dogs growl as a warning. Justin's antics from earlier were no different.

He turned back to look down at Tommy who was lying on the ground still. He held in a laughter. "You sure you didn't hurt yourself throwing yourself back like that like a Russian missile?" Justin held his stomach in laughter.

"Vision, my ass," Justin chuckled. "Get up, dude," Justin offered Tommy a hand. "I have a vision that you have dirt all over your robes now. I have another vision that the whole Hall is giving you weird looks. Oh? Never mind, that wasn't the future. That was the present," Justin quipped sarcastically.

Tommy smiled. "Well, of course you had a vision. You have eyesight, but our visions are different. I have been a seer since I was but a babe. I have made countless predictions throughout the span of my life. This just so happens to be the latest of them that were correct,".

Tommy could not believe his luck. His lie had turned out to be true once again, or so he thought for the time being. "You two have stopped fighting, and you even described you two as being 'cool'. You MUST continue on this path to brotherhood and foster this relationship. You're now jovial and smiling, one year from now you will both look upon this memory and thank me." Tommy knew other students were looking at him and he knew this would be a great time to gather swaths of attention, he could begin the fostering of his own reputation, every great wizard had a great reputation.

Tommy raised his voice. "My mentor @Justin Shin has taught us all a lesson today. No matter the house, or the species you may be, it does not matter. What matters is moving past difficult inter-personal conflicts and respecting fellow wizards and witches, no matter who they may be. There is no room for fighting, barbarically with fists, or eloquently with magic, aside from the dueling clubs, of course. Each and everyone one of you watching today has witnessed I, Tommy Patterson, make yet another correct prediction of the future and none of this would have been possible if it were not for my newly found mentor Justin. I hope he will still have time for me given he has made an eternal friend today. If he is so courteous as to aid me in the conditioning of my body as the physical endurance of him and his fellow mud people is beyond impressive and would be an immeasurable asset on my journey to make my first friend I would be honoured more than words could ever possibly convey."

Although this had begun as a lie, Tommy did mean his ending statement. Justin would make a good mentor that he could use to better himself, at least if he really was someone living with mud inside them, to become more naturally resistant to things. A skill that would be useful in quidditch and could garner attention, potentially finally allowing Tommy to make a friend, his greatest desire.

Justin held his forehead and shook his head with a smile. The boy reminded him of his little brother, Bryant, one of the three triplets. He would always be doing anything to get attention. Tommy felt like the same category.

He spoke up to Tommy. "First lesson as your damn mentor. I don't actually have mud in my veins dude," Justin laughed out loud. "When someone calls you a chicken for being scared or a turtle for being slow, it doesn't actually mean you're physically a chicken or turtle, dumbass," Justin laughed. "I'm a regular old, muggle-born wizard dude. Human as can be. Overall though, 7/10 speech."

Justin was not bothered at all by Tommy's antics. He just needed to edit the Slytherin's announcement in the Great Hall. He walked over to Tommy, put him in a friendly headlock and addressed to the rest of the hall.
Ability: Fearless
"But if you ever want to use your fists or wands in a scuffle. Try me," Justin smirked at the whole hall. He then gave Tommy a a playful noogie on the head.

Since Justin was the firstborn of six kids, the dynamic of mentor and mentee between him and Tommy was almost natural. Ideally, Justin would prefer friends that are as strong as him both mentally and physically, but Tommy showed potential.

He's either an idiot, or he's got guts. Either way, I feel like I can make him into a man. Justin thought to himself.

"Come on, fortune teller. Let's stop bothering people that are trying to eat. Both you and I have caused quite a scene ya know. This school's not ready to handle nutjobs like us," Justin laughed out loud.
