Making friends
Spring was a beautiful time of year. Sure it rained. A lot. But it was also when flowers were starting to bloom and the tree were regaining their color. Of course it helped that a light jacket was all you needed in order to be outside for any length of time. Today, though, it had managed to stay dry so far. So Nellie had decided to take advantage.

Packing her sketch book and a pencil case full of colored pencils, she made her way down to the Great Lake. It was probably the one place on the campus of Hogwarts that she hadn't sketched yet. The girl sat on the ground, her back against the tree. For a long moment, she just watched and enjoyed the scenery. Her shoulders rose and fell as she breathed in the spring air.
Once her mind was in the right place, she pulled out her sketch book. It was filled of sketches of people as well a landscapes and other things. Some were decidedly better than others. Turning to a fresh page, she picked up a pencil and began to sketch. She took her time, letting the pencil move almost of it's own accord. Line by line, the Great Lake began to come together on the page.

Making friends
may 1st, 2024 wednesday, afternoonwc: 450 dhampir | sensitive to sunlightinteracting with: @Nellie Lam mentioning: nobodysorry for the long wait lol got busy writing essaysToday, Scout had three classes before lunch. The first one was Charms, a class she adored but was dreadfully bad at, the second one was Transfiguration, which she also had trouble with. She had learned from reading about her affliction that dhampirs had a harder time with casting magic than other magical races, which Scout considered to be a mega bummer. Her dad had told her that she just had to work hard in order to keep up with her classmates, mega bummer.
The third class she had right before lunch was History of Magic, which might've been worse than anything else. She hated sitting down in the class listening to the professor drone on and on about things she didn't care about for an hour, and then be forced to go sit in the library for another hour or two just to catch up on the things she wasn't listening on! And then she'd have to write an essay about the topic that, she still didn't care about. It was messy.
Today she decided to take a break. The end of year exams were coming up soon, and school was actually about to be over. After talking it over with her parents, Scout thought she'd be better off staying at school for summer. Initially she had wanted to go home, especially near the beginning of the year. But now she was actually having fun at Hogwarts, and had made a few friends, which meant that it was worth it to stay over the summer.
Another reason Scout wanted to stay at Hogwarts was to be able to play outside all day without being confined to her parents backyard. Although it was big, nothing could compare to Hogwarts. The Grounds were lush this time of Spring, with plenty of trees to climb and people to talk to. Although the sun made her skin feel prickly, it was nothing a baseball cap couldn't fix.
There was a girl out by the Great Lake that Scout found interesting. She was probably the same age as Scout, albeit a little shorter than her. Her height wasn't the interesting point, but she was drawing something! The innermost voice of Scout told her that bothering the poor girl probably wasn't the best way to start a conversation, but the part of Scout that she listens to said that going up and asking what she was drawing was the best idea possible!
So of course, that's exactly what she did.
"Hey! You! Artist!" She called, running up to the girl. "What are you drawing?"
don't look at me; you can't understand, right? i'm just like a monstrous flower that bloomed too soon
