Siobhan took a deep breath in as gazed out the window of the scarlet rumbling train that breezed through the Scottish Countryside. Though the journey was but a mere moment in the span of her Hogwarts life, she was undoubtedly pleased that it was the introduction. Having discovered this brand new world, she felt a certain feeling in the pit of her stomach that she hadn't identified as a positive or negative feeling quite yet. Yes, the logical half of her brain acknowledged that this would be beneficial for her, her magical prowess would be in need of a proper educational format. Something that muggle schooling just wasn't equipped to cover- let alone even know about! The professor who had visited the McCarty farm a few months ago with the welcome letter into the Wizarding World had been very strict about the consequences that would occur if she or her family was to expose magic to those out of the loop.
Speaking of her parents, she wondered how they were coping with not being able to see her off on the platform. With five kids other than herself, Mr. and Mrs. McCarty had their hands full that morning when it came to dropping her off. Nevermind the fact that her youngest sister Kaitlyn, kept running into the walls trying to "find the entrance for her," her brothers had been of no help either by encouraging their baby sister to keep throwing herself at random brick walls and collums, which only increased her parent's frustration and worry. Whose to say that this was real? And it wasn't a scam? Despite the use of magic by the magical liason (who had turned their mothers quilted sofa into a baby hippopotamus and back again,) there was still the likelyhood that this could all be one big orchastrated joke. Yet the finding of the platform appeared to prove otherwise.
Upon finally finding the most likely potiential wearabouts of the platform, Siobhan had learned that only she could pass through. A tearful goodbye and a stern demand of a letter home had left her on the Platform 9 and 3/4 by herself until it was time to board the train. It had been lonely but she had kept herself busy by burying her nose in her book, if only to keep her from running back through the platform into the safety of her family's arms. In the months since finding out about her position and place in the Wizarding World, Siobhan had spent many sleep evading nights wondering why she out of everyone in her family had been blessed with the amazing gift that was magic. Her family were devout pagans and practiced all the olde rituals. It shocked her that out of everyone in her family, she was the only one with a full tie to magic.
She was excited however for the prospect of learning. All her life she had been enamoured with knowledge and her brain yearned for all things information. Now that she had access to a brand new world, she was desperate to prove that she belonged there. She had read every book assigned to her for the first year, and had already rooted herself in the enjoyment of Magical History, Herbology, and Potion making. She knew that once she had secured a wealth of magical information revolving around plants she would incorporate it in her greenhouse and on their farm. Anything to help out her parents and make their lives easier.
She sighed again, pulling herself away from her thoughts of family as she adjusted her sitting position on the bench of the compartment she was in. She was surprised to find one without any patrons, especially considering the platform had been entirely too crowded. Yet she was content with her solace for the moment. It allowed her to gather her thoughts as she tried to remain optimistic and hopeful that this journey would turn out alright. But her stomach still felt wishy-washy about the entire ordeal...
She wondered what would happen when she returned home for the holidays. Would her siblings demand to see an example of her magic? Would she ever be able to show them? What if she was eaten by a troll- well that one was more of a terrible hypothetical her oldest brother Eoghan had joked at the kitchen table the night before they left for the station. As she sat with her feet pulled up on the bench beside her, she let her head rest against the window pane as the rumbling of the beautiful scarlet train continued to make its way through the gorgeous Scottish countryside. She even softly mooed to herself as she saw another cow.
