Closed Caught Off Guard PV Alec Mason

Aaron didn't want to go home for Easter break in a couple of weeks, but he knew he would have to. The letter he had received that morning from his mother pretty much guaranteed it. She was worried, she wasn't hearing from him enough, etcetera. It was true that he wasn't sending letters home as often as he used to or probably should be, but he just - didn't want to. So the few letters he had sent this year were short, filled with how busy he was preparing for OWLs, and trying to avoid updating on much more than that. Using OWLs as an excuse to not go home for Christmas had barely worked, and it apparently wasn't going to work this time.

So here he was with a letter assuring he would go home for Easter break. He'd written it during Charms class that morning, and was using his lunch break to deliver it to Chae-rin. Although she wasn't nocturnal like the other owls, she could usually be found there during lunch in case he needed her. The snowy owl was found on the second floor of the owlery and accepted his letter like a pro, her trip to Wales probably already mapped out in her mind.

"Thanks, Chae," Aaron said, smiling as he offered her an owl treat for her journey. She hooted in appreciation, accepting the token of thanks before flying off. The weather wasn't too bad today and he watched from one of the owlery windows for as long as he could see her.

What would it be like going home again? "Home" was such a strange word to him these days. It'd be a different home - or at least, a different house. Since he'd been in school, his parents had found a new house to rent, so they'd moved out of their grandparents house. Avery said that it was a nice place, but they had to move schools and he had to leave his friends. Aaron couldn't help feeling like all of it was partially his fault, so writing back to his twin had taken some time.

The Hufflepuff sighed and turned away from the window, descending the owlery stairs as he planned to make it down to the Great Hall with time to eat some lunch. Aaron was completely caught off guard when he reached the bottom of the stairs and came face-to-face with Alec Mason. The same Alec Mason that he had been trying not to think about for weeks. The same Alec Mason that brought a sense of rage into his whole being. Aaron tried not to act like the Gryffindor's sudden appearance had affected him, but he had hesitated on the last steps, only now finishing his way to the bottom.

"Er, hi," he ended up saying. Aaron couldn't make the swift exit he wanted to without acknowledging the guy because Alec was directly in the path to the exit. "All right?"
