Closed Lonely Ride To Hogwarts Open

After being pulled from her thoughts after hearing someone enter the compartment, she turns around and sees a kid her age standing there.

Yeah, you can sit here. My name is Melody. Is this going to be your first year, too? I should be excited about going there, but I can't help but already feel homesick.

She sat back in her seat.

I have a bunch of thoughts filling my head since this is all new to me. I never actually thought magic was real, but now I know. I just wish my parents and friends could have seen me off, but they weren't able to.

She looked at you.

How are you feeling about all this? I can't help but miss my parents and my friends. I have never been without them for so long. Now I just feel alone but I'm glad someone decided to come sit with me. Now I'll have someone to talk to. This would have been quite a trip if I had to be here all alone. Is there anything you are looking forward to at the school? I hear we will be sorted into houses. This seems all so strange to me, but I guess I could get used to it. I'm sorry if I talk too much.

Sunny shifted uneasily in their spot as they lingered in the entrance of the compartment for a little, nervously fiddling with their piece of paper. It took them about minute before it clicked in their head that the greeting was actually a 'yes' and not the 'no' they had feared it would be. Sunny sat down next to the other kid, heaving their large backpack to the side and their bags under the seat.

"Oh hi. Nice to mee-" They stopped in the middle of their words to let you go on, giving Melody a warm smile. Instead of paying attention, their thoughts ended up getting filled with worry as they both wanted to interject (thinking that they were leaving too much awkward silence) and also feeling as though their head was scrambled with all the words. Sunny always had a hard time with introductions, always zoning out when they shouldn't. At least that what their teachers and parents said anyways. Though Sunny was starting to think they were not wrong as they struggled to remember what the other girl had said.

"Right! Same. I, uh, didn't believe it at first. I thought maybe I made it up or it was a dream somehow. I'm, uh, sorry that your parents couldn't come. That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. Did they have work or something?" By now Sunny felt as though they were rambling and started to grow self-conscious if what they were saying was actually comforting Melody in the way they had anticipated it would. "My mom actually came with me. She's here- well she was here right now before we left."

Sunny began to feel that they needed to redirect the conversation back to comforting so they went on, "Maybe your parents will come to parent teacher night- if they have those? My school always had them. I always hated them."

"And no, you don't talk too much." They gave Melody a light chuckle, "I think I actually talked to much there. Sorry, you're good. I always say too much."

"Oh! M- my name's Sunny. Sorry I forgot to mention it."

Laurie waved goodbye to her aunt and uncle as she rushed into the platform. They could not come with her as they had an urgent meeting to attend. Laurie gasped for breath. It had been a long day! She had already packed her trunk yesterday but there were still a lot of things to be done before she boarded the Hogwarts Express. She went to the platform number she had been instructed, rushed through the barrier and found the marvellous train glistening in the sun. She saw thousands of children like her saying goodbye. She boarded the train and started searching for a compartment to sit in. She sighed. She wished that her aunt and uncle were there with her. She knew no other witches or wizards other than herself. She peered into every compartment, but all of them were full. She didn’t think she had been this lonely before. Of course, she was excited to go to Hogwarts, but she wished she could go with her current friends. She checked everywhere but she only found somewhere to sit at the back of the train. Two girls were sitting in there. They both looked like Laurie’s age. Laurie felt like joining them, as she wanted to discuss the prospect of going to Hogwarts with other children.
So, Laurie mustered her courage and asked-
“ Do you mind if I join you?

Laurie sat down comfortably. She was glad she had asked to sit in the compartment. Talking to Melody and Sunny was much more easier than talking to other children.
“ Hi, I’m Laurie. I’m from well, Wales. I used to live in London with my parents. But they died due to a car crash when I was 5. I was then sent to live with my aunt and uncle, who lived in Wales. And I am really excited to have a pet, especially an owl. But… I don’t really think we can actually have a dragon as a pet. And you asked what I’m excited about? Well, my answer would be pretty much everything! For my favourite lesson… I hope it’s charms. I really look forward to it. I also heard that the Food there is delicious! Can the portraits really move? Is it true that the Chamber of Secrets really exists? Can we try out for the Quidditch team in our first year?”
She took a deep breath and said-“ I’m sorry. I’ve never really been away from my parents so long.”
Then a pleasant women came along.
“ Anything from the trolley, my dears?” She asked, smiling at them.
