Aurora had been practically bouncing on her toes all morning. Finally, both of them dedicated a day to catching up, whether it was for a good chat or just sitting in comfortable silence. Either way, she was excited. Nicholas was one of those rare people who didn’t drain her energy, maybe it was the other way around. With him, everything just flowed naturally and today would be just the same.

But as she stepped on the final steps of the stairs with her heart full, the sight that greeted her was… well…. unexpected. In fact, it was so wildly off script that she nearly tripped and fell and died dramatically. (She didn’t)

Something was off. Her brain struggled to process the scene before her. Aurora was not the type of person who can successfully hide her feelings. She didn’t even try to. Stared wide eyed, blinking rapidly with the hope her visions would correct itself. But nope, still the same.

Is that…. my cute pookie beloved nicholas? Where is the… hair?

There was a distinct lack of the unruly fluffy hair that the boy was known for. And now replaced with a scalp. Just a scalp. Glowing like it had been freshly polished. She blinked again, utterly dumbfounded. “Did you- wait- hang on-" She held up a hand.

"Did you wear wigs this whole time, and this is the moment you’ve chosen to finally come clean?” Aurora said, stepping closer, her eyes narrowing as if studying a piece of art that didn’t make sense. “Did you join a cult? Oh my god- did they make you shave it off? Is this, like, your initiation??” She gestured wildly at his head “This is traumatic.. I need at least two weeks notice, Nicholas”

Nicholas ran a hand through what remained of his hair, his palm brushing against the stubble. The sensation was rather unfamiliar, even though he had taken a razor to his head some time ago. Maybe it wasn’t the best idea, and the reaction from Aurora seemed to only further expound upon such a thought. She seemed horrified, shocked, appalled, taken aback to such a degree that he may as well have committed a war crime against a small Balkan nation. He cringed somewhat at her wild gestures, his eyes narrowing ever so slightly more with each jab.

"It’s just hair,” He muttered under his breath, his voice halfway between a grumble and a complaint, “I haven’t joined a cult, I haven’t worn wigs, none o’ that shit. I just wanted to stop needing to wash it, is that such a bad thing? Look, it be what it be, I wanted a haircut and wanted to stop bothering so off it came. Snip-snip.”

He scoffed and folded his arms, taking advantage of his rather ever-present height advantage, “Besides you change your hair like every week. Rainbow, blonde, brown, red, although maybe not red you haven’t done that one yet, where’s my two weeks’ notice on that, huh?”

“Rules for me, but not for thee, huh?” His face broke into an utterly cocky grin.

“Okay, first of all-” Aurora began, holding up a finger, trying to excuse herself as if she was about to deliver her legal defense. But then she paused, realising she never gave notice before her wild hair experiments and yet, he never filed a complaint. “Huh.. you may have a point there” She finally admitted, lowering her finger and conceding defeat.

She glanced at him again, now with a little more curiosity. If she remembered correctly, she had once cut off her hair after an incident that involved him, something about valentine’s day two years ago that she just couldn’t remember, or was it something else she wasn’t too sure about. He’d done something, nothing major but enough for her to take a pair of kitchen scissors and revamp her look like it was the start of her villain era. “You’re going through something, aren’t you?” She pointed at him. “Did something happen? Should I be worried? Because this-” She waved her hands again, at his beautiful bald head, “-to me, it’s a sign.. Because I cannot even consider cutting my bangs without any crisis.”

As if she just cracked a case, she crossed her arms. The pieces were starting to come together. “Do I need to make someone throw up slugs? Because I’d be happy to, you just need to give me names.”

“I always have a point,” He responded to Aurora’s simple declaration. But it was the continued inquiries into his changed look that caused his face to darken into a frown, he slumped against the castle wall, his nose scrunching up as she spoke, as if he was thinking of an appropriate response. She was somewhat right in her accusations, for that was what he interpreted the words as, but he wasn’t about to go and admit that, was he? Not to himself, and definitely not to her. So he let her talk, his posture terrible as he listened. Finally, as she crossed her arms and declared her intention to attack someone, he responded.

“No one did nothing, believe me,” He sighed, running a hand down his face as he spoke, “I just wanted to get a haircut. It’ll grow back, don’t worry about it, hair does that. ‘Sides, if I was having issues with someone, I could sort it out myself. I’m not some kinda princess.”

Nicholas snorted, pushing himself off the wall, “Look, let’s not stress about stuff. I wanted to do something fun, yeah? So stop thinking about it and we can go mess around or whatever. The weather is nice, we can check out the lake, we can go raid the kitchens. Just no hair talk.” [/color]
