Well, here goes the first full day at Hogwarts, let’s hope for the best. Morning came and everyone gathered at their long line of a table, which was apparently house based. I took a seat at the Hufflepuff table, with one free seat beside me, hoping I’d get to know whoever sat there, whatever logic that was.

When the person whom I swore I’d get to know sat down beside me, I was watched to see if she might talk first , waiting for a moment. Instead, she just looked incredibly sleepy. I get that, mornings aren’t for everyone, that’s like me in the winter. I waited for her to seem awake enough to talk, before bravely starting the conversation.

“Hey, I’m Kiera” I Said suddenly, hoping I didn’t startle the tired girl too bad “but you can just call me Kie”. I smiled at her, taking a bite of a sandwich of some sort that I had been holding for a minute, that I may have forgotten about. I got noticeably distracted staring at the sandwich for a few moments, god was it good. Oh yeah right, I was talking to someone… oops, my smile turned into an embarrassed little grin.

Viva blinked in surprise as the girl next to her suddenly introduced herself. Well, that was nice of her to just put herself out there and start a conversation. I like this girl already! Viva thought to herself as a slow smile began to cross her face. "Um, hi!" She said, feeling more energized already. "That's a pretty name, and I love your nickname!" Viva giggled. Kie. That's unique, but pretty. Hmm. "My name is Genevieve, but most people call me Viva. It's so nice to meet you! I was hoping to make some more friends in my own house. Hufflepuff really is great, isn't it?" Viva realized she was babbling and stopped abruptly, feeling her cheeks turn red. She wasn't usually this chatty, maybe it was just because she was tired. She tended to either crash or go crazy when she was lacking sleep.

She watched as the girl took a bite of her sandwich. Sandwich for breakfast? That's an interesting choice... Viva thought as she took another sip of her coffee. She waited for Kie to answer her question, but she seemed to be very focused on her sandwich for a few minutes. Viva giggled again. Goodness, she was in a good mood this morning. She didn't usually giggle this much, either. "Good sandwich, huh?" She asked with a smile. "I like them too, but mostly for lunch," she dissolved into a fit of helpless giggles for no apparant reason. What is wrong with me? She's going to think I'm crazy!

I smiled at the girl, who for a minute seemed embarrassed, I’m not sure why, who knows maybe that was just how she normally looked, not to be rude or anything. I quickly swallowed the bit I had taken and said “hm yeah sorry. It is pretty good, like, surprisingly good”. I get it, sandwiches for breakfast might be weird, but I liked them, I’d eat anything for breakfast. Or lunch. Or dinner. Really I’d eat anything anytime, foods good.

I watched as the girl, who had I torched herself as Genevieve started laughing everywhere. I had been pretty nervous to be here, all alone you know, and seeing someone already so comfortable with me was really nice. I started to lightly laugh along with her, maybe it was just her energy or watching someone else giggle but involuntarily I started anyways.

“Well then Genevieve, or would you rather be called Viva? I guess we both want to make friends from our houses” I smiled sweetly, though still recovering from the giggles earlier. I moved my sandwich a little bit closer to her to offer her a bite, before remembering the girl just said she prefers sandwich’s for lunch. Oops, oh well.

Viva finally managed to stop laughing, and nodded with a smile. "Sure, of course you can call me Viva!" She said as she reached for her cup of coffee again. She took a sip, then placed the mug back on the table. She smiled as Kie pushed the sandwich toward her. "Ooo, I'll try a bite!" Viva said with another little laugh. Picking it up carefully, she took a small bite from the end. I don't want to eat all her breakfast, she thought. Oh WOW, that is a GOOD sandwich!! She finished chewing and pushed the plate back towards Kie. "Yum! Now I understand why you like that so much," she said, eyebrows raised. "It's delicious! Almost good enough to make me start eating sandwiches for breakfast!"

She continued on her coffee, smiling. Wow, I really like Kie, I hope we can become friends! Viva turned back to her and pointed at her robes. "So, how are you liking Hufflepuff so far?" For some reason, even though Viva had just met Kie, she just felt comfortable talking to her and laughing with her. It was a nice feeling to just let her guard down and have fun. She couldn't remember smiling this much in a long time.

I was kind of surprised when Viva took a bite of the sandwich, but glad that she liked it. “I know right! Like, it’s probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had, wait no, it’s definitely the best sandwich I’ve ever had!” I laughed. Honestly, I didn’t usually have them for breakfast either, but I just thought it just looked really good, and I was right.

“Honestly, I really like it! I wasn’t too sure what to expect, you know, cause both of my parents went here, but they were each in different houses, so they can’t really tell me what it was like. How about you, what do you think of it?” I answered. My mom had been an Ravenclaw and my dad had been a Slytherin. I wonder what my sister would be, maybe she’d get Gryffindor, you know, all four houses.

I don’t get it, how can you really just meet someone one minute, and know that they’ll be your best friends forever the next? But hey, I definitely am not complaining. Like, at all. Viva seemed so nice, and even just talking to her and sharing my sandwich with her made me so happy.

“So, are you thinking of playing any sports or something?” I asked with a smile.

Viva smiled at her new friend. "Oh, I love it!" she said happily. "Even though I've only been here a day, it already feels like home. It's so magical." Viva sighed. "Sports? I'm not sure... I never played sports at my old muggle school, but I suppose magical sports are different. I've heard of... kwid-itch? Is that how you say it? I heard some people talking about it, and it sounds interesting! I don't know if I'd like flying on a broom, though, because..." Viva looked down, her cheeks flaming. The next few words came out really quietly. "I'm kind of scared of heights." She hastily took another sip of her coffee.

"I think I might want to try dueling, though, if I can ever get enough nerve. It might be worth a shot! What about you? Are you going to do any sports?" Viva changed the subject, cheeks still pink from admitting her fear. She was starting to feel really hungry now, and didn't want to eat all of Kie's breakfast, so she scanned the table in front of her for something that looked good. Eventually, Viva settled on a plate of toast with honey, and a poached egg. She picked up a fork and took a bite of the egg, licking her lips. "Yum," she said.
