A long day of classes had passed, and concluded, and Jacob wore his boredom on his face. He walked idly through the halls, glancing around at various other students who were chattering away. He didn't recognise any of them, after all he had mostly kept to himself, which wasn't typically much of an issue for him. But it certainly did get boring at times, often leading him into rereading one of his books, or idly just starting off into space, which was sort of what he was doing now. In between catching a few words of the passing conversations, he was basically doing nothing but staring off into space.

As he passed an empty bench, he momentarily paused before lowering himself down onto it with a sigh. He adjusted himself on the chair, his hands idling fixing up his uniform, so that he'd look presentable to anyone passing, before eventually settling into a comfortable position, at which point, he slipped his bag off from his shoulder, settling it down onto the floor.

Maybe he should get around to trying to join the Duelling team or something, that would certainly kill his boredom. But until then, he'd have to occupy himself in other manners. He began to hum gently to himself as he shifted through his bag, looking for a specific book.

Viva sighed with relief as she walked down the corridor at the end of a long day of classes. She was headed down to the common room. Trudge, trudge. Her feet were tired and felt heavy. Her entire body was just exhausted, it had been a long few weeks and she was ready for the day to be over. The corridors were somewhat crowded, as usual. People laughing, chatting, having a good time after class. Viva ignored all of them, and let her mind wander as she walked, thinking of the past weeks and everything that had happened.

She was so caught up in her thinking, she didn't notice the bench sitting in the corridor and almost ran right into it. Looking up abruptly, Viva noticed a boy perched on the bench, apparently humming to himself as he dug through his bag. "Oh, hello! Sorry," she said as she hastily righted herself. She could feel her cheeks flaming. "I don't think I've met you before... I'm Genevieve Delacourt, but everyone calls me Viva. What's your name?" He looks nice enough... if not a little unkept. The boy's blonde hair was falling every which way. Viva instinctively reached up to brush down her own hair, which she had left down that day.

Eventually, he found the book in his bag, his Defence Against the Dark Arts book, which was surprisingly one of his most prized possessions by this point. Just as he was about to open up the book, he heard a set of approaching feet that were sounding as if they were growing ever closer to the bench. "Hmm?" He glanced up towards the girl, as she greeted him. Her quick attempt to recompose herself, and play off the near crash caused a small grin to appear on Jacobs face.

"We haven't met, yeah." He nodded along with her assessment, pausing as he she introduced her self. His hand twitched slightly, originally intending to raise his hand to shake hers, but it didn't quite seem right in his head to shake the hand of someone his own age. Seemed all too formal.

"Jacob Thorley." He introduced himself, his voice dripping with pride as he said his surname. His own hand raised his hair subconsciously as she patted hers down, running his hand through his fringe, lifting any loose strands out of his eyes.

"What house are you in?" He continued after a moments pause, shuffling across the bench, to create space in case she decided to take a seat. "I'm a Slytherin." His fingers idly played around the green lining of his robes, the pride of his house once again evident in his tone. "Whole family has been Slytherin actually.. Wasn't too much of a surprise for me to follow them."

Trying not to snort at @Jacob Thorley

Viva could've snorted at this boy's lofty attitude, but she didn't, as it would have most definitely been rude. She didn't want to start things off on the wrong foot. Noticing Jacob's hand twitch, Viva immediately extended her own, offering to shake. "Nice to meet you, Jacob." she said, watching the boy curiously. She waited as he fixed his own hair, then took a seat next to him, because her feet were tired. She set her bag down at her feet.

Again trying her hardest not to snort at Jacob's obnoxious attitude, she bit her lip and responded. "I'm in Hufflepuff. I like it, almost everyone in that house is very kind and was quite welcoming." Her mind sprang unbidden to the one Hufflepuff she had met who had not been so kind... shivering, she dragged her mind back to the present. "Oh, that's nice." Viva felt stupid saying such basic things, but she didn't really know what else to say. "I wasn't sure what house I'd be in, because I didn't even know the Wizarding World existed until my accidental magic." She thought back to the day when she had discovered magic was real... it had been a wondrous moment for her.

Seeing the extended hand, he reached up, giving her a relatively firm handshake, before quickly retracting it back to his side. "Nice to meet you. " He agreed. Despite his more lofty, and somewhat pretentious attitude, if she were to pay attention, there was obvious practice, and rehearsal gone into his appearance. He'd shift in seat, fidget with his book, readjust his clothes to ensure they stayed neat, very much resembling a ball of energy without an outlet.

"Hufflepuff. " He echoed, his mouth opening slightly, as if he was about to comment on that, before sharply cutting himself of. Judgement on her house would certainly lead to bad first impressions, that he wanted to avoid for as long as possible. "Nice sounds about right.. My father said they were a friendly bunch once, I think." He didn't sound entirely convinced by his words, given that his parents had rarely mentioned any other house positively, besides from Slytherin.

"How? " He asked stupidly, as she mentioned her ignorance of the magical world, prior to her accidental magic. "How is that even possible that you didn't know about Hogwarts? I can't think of a time when I didn't know what Hogwarts was.." The possibly of her being muggle-born, or a half-blood, didn't even cross his mind for a moment, he hadn't ever knowingly met with one, after all.

Viva frowned slightly. "Hmm. 'A friendly bunch' isn't just what we are. We're so much more than that... everyone gives Hufflepuff a bad rap, but honestly it's a really amazing house filled with wonderful people." She adjusted her clothes somewhat nervously, glancing at Jacob.

Her frown only deepened when he asked how she didn't know about Hogwarts. Who was this boy and who did he think he was? Viva took a deep breath, and smoothed her face over, determined to be kind no matter what. In a more calm tone, she began to explain. "My mother is a muggle, and my father is a wizard. When they met, they fell in love and got married, and my father agreed to live in the muggle world with his wife for her sake. It was hard for him to practically give up magic, but he did it in order to be with her." Viva sighed, then continued. "My parents never talked about it, until I had my first accidental magic. Once they were sure I was a witch, they told me about the Wizarding World." She looked at Jacob, wondering what he'd say. He doesn't understand. He's a pure-blood, I bet. Probably from one of those families who think muggles are filthy. Now he is probably sorry he associated with me. Still eyeing him nervously, she cleared her throat. "So that's why I didn't know about Hogwarts until I was about eight."

"I don't know about giving Hufflepuff a bad rap.." He began, before pausing for a few moments. It was true that he would have likely cried had he been placed in Hufflepuff, and asked to be moved to Durmstrang. "I guess maybe there is a bit of a bad rap, actually. " He couldn't really think of many 'great' Hufflepuffs, after all. Just generally nicer people, who maybe wouldn't have quite fit into any other house. At least, that was the impression he had.

Jacobs frown began to mirror her own at the mention of a wizard marrying a muggle, followed by more a look of confusion, than anything else. "Half-blood. " He said plainly, his fingers beginning to idly drum against his legs, as he thought. "I don't understand your father." He began, his own voice somewhat conflicted in his words. He truthfully thought her father was stupid, but he wished to remain polite, not spoil any potential friendships, even if they weren't purebloods. "Why would your father enter the muggle world, and not expose your mother to magic?"

"How should I.." He once again paused, mulling over his words before he continued. He hadn't had much exposure to none pureblood, at least not knowingly, who knew what could cause offence? "Magic is such a great gift, why not showcase that you your mother? I'm sure her life could have been made easier, by living in a magical household."

Getting mad at @Jacob Thorley

Viva was slowly getting more and more irritated at this boy. What was the big deal, anyway? There were plenty of half-bloods in the school, and muggle-borns, too, for that matter. Viva turned her head sharply as Jacob began drumming his fingers on his legs. "What do you mean, you don't understand my father? You haven't met him. I don't understand you!" Trying to control herself, she took another deep breath and clutched her hands together, scooting slightly away from the boy on the bench.

Shaking her head a little, Viva tried to explain. "It's not a matter of 'making her life easier.' And besides, who says her life would have been easier? It's terribly difficult for muggles to function well in the Wizarding World. For example, how could my mother have accessed Diagon Alley? She couldn't do nearly as much as my father could, because he has magic." She stopped for a second and looked at Jacob again. "Besides, what about the Statute of Secrecy*? Doesn't that say that wizards can't do magic or anything in front of muggles? And there is another law as well that prohibits wizards and witches using magic in front of muggles. So technically, even though my mother knew she was marrying a wizard, he wasn't allowed to do magic around her." She explained to Jacob.

"And the reason my father chose to marry a muggle is because he loved her. Love is powerful, and it doesn't matter if you have magic or not if you love someone, that's just silly. A lack of magic doesn't mean it makes a person less attractive to someone with magic... sure, it complicates things, but it's able to be done. I mean, obviously." She gestured to herself. "And I hope you're not so shallow that you can't see that."
*"When mingling with Muggles, wizards and witches will adopt an entirely Muggle standard of dress, which will conform as closely as possible to the fashion of the day. Clothing must be appropriate to the climate, the geographical region and the occasion. Nothing self-altering or adjusting is to be worn in front of Muggles."

"Of course I haven't met him." He said with a frown, obviously confused by the sudden outburst. Why would he have to have met a man to try and understand his reasoning? "What is it that you don't understand about me? I've been pretty clear with my.." He paused for a few moments. "Confusion. "

"Of course her life would be easier with the addition of magic, imagine all the things around the house that can be sped up massively using magic.. Like, uh.." What were common problems around the house? He hadn't done a chore in his life, so he wasn't entirely sure what actually did need to be done around a house. "Maybe some kind of pest got into the house, right? A muggle would have to catch it, but you or I.. Poof" He demonstrated the poof with a small swish of his finger, as if it was a window. "Problem solved, just like that."

"Course I know about he secrecy stuff, though. I live in London. My father had to make me wear muggle clothes if we ever couldn't floo somewhere."

"I also don't know if that statue of secrecy applies to married couples, considering magic isn't exactly a secret now in your household, there's no reason he couldn't cast magic." He shrugged. He'd have to ask his father for the exact law around that, as he wasn't entirely sure of it himself. "Plus, you'd of done magic infant of your mum once, or twice, surely? Unless the first time you did magic accidentally was by yourself?"

Viva bulged her eyes a little. She didn't usually get this mad at people, and she never yelled, but this boy was making controlling her temper unusually difficult. "Oh, sure, your 'confusion,'" she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Apparantly he is that shallow... Viva gritted her teeth. "Look, where did you get the idea that you can just start judging me and my family? What I don't understand about you is why you think you can be so rude, and why you somehow can't handle the thought of my father marrying a muggle!" Viva stood up angrily, clapping her hands to her sides with a blazing look in her eyes. She still looked quite pretty, even when she was angry. "I suppose you think my mother has dirty blood, too, don't you? That she's not worth any true witch or wizard's time. I bet you even think I have dirty blood! You probably wouldn't even have talked to me before this if you had known, would you?" Viva's voice had gotten higher and higher over the course of her little rant, and by now her hair was swinging over her shoulder as she spoke with such menace that she was a little surprised at herself, even. But she had no time to be surprised, she was too angry to think about that right now.

"And where did you get the idea that you can just interrogate me about my parents and my father's life choices? How very dare you!" She took a moment to breath, before continuing. "I shall not be made to answer your petty questions. You are nothing but a foolish, ignorant boy, and I am quite put up!" Viva tossed her long hair over her shoulder, sent one more scathing look at Jacob, and made to flounce away, quite forgetting her book bag that still sat on the ground beside the bench.
