Having four legs was harder to learn to use than one could expect. This was not part of the animagus mentorship. It was mostly like- hey, don't forget your morning and night incantation. Make sure you have all the supplies you need. Not- hey you might need to use new limbs and things like that.

Post standing in an electrical storm and completing the ritual spell they had already gone and informed their mentor, Caradoc Browne. Now they were storming the halls of Hogwarts searching for their boyfriend who had watched them go through this process. Here's the thing- paws. So most of the time when they were going around corners they were sliding and slamming into random students. But it's the wizarding world and this was not abnormal- right?

There was also a part of them that forgot that no one can understand them when they were a dog, so their barks echoed around the halls. The translation in dog being 'Has anyone seen Elsi? Where is Elsi?' but of course, no one answered. So instead, their little nails clattered across stone floors. Students were collateral. Dori- just wanted to show this off.

This did feel like peak wizard. Peak magic. Dori had done it, they had mastered magic. Surely there was no greater exhilaration than becoming a literal animal. Shape shifting essentially. As a muggle-born this only became an option to them four years ago, yet now it was their whole world. An obvious reality an option that they could make happen. The fact that they did have to wait until fifth year did suck, but it made sense because turning into an animal was... pretty intense. For example, dogs didn't sweat so they were profusely panting as they sprinted through the corridors and they did had to make frequent stops to lay on the cool castle floor to cool down before continuing on.

But there was one final corner that they sped around- where they spotted him. The collateral damage could not be matched. They stumbled and did a full roll over as they tried to get their footing. A first year clattered to the ground. Other students yelled at Dori to slow down. But they were on their way- it was time. Elsi was vulnerable. Their barking bounced off the walls. They stumbled on their paws like a puppy that hadn't quite grown into them yet.

Elsi had spotted them- his eyes lit up. Did he know it was them? What a good boyfriend!

At the last second- with a last second bark of happiness. Their legs left the ground as they leaped to tackle Elsi to the ground. Panting and slobbering. Trying to go 'Look at me! I did it!' Over-estimating how much critical thinking Elsi could do when he hadn't seen a dog since the summer and would probably be extremely excited about this random dog in a crowd choosing him.

Closed A Golden Opportunity PV Elsian

There was barking in the hallways.

Elsian blinked, pausing mid conversation. He would have wondered if he was maybe imagining things but it was pretty obvious he wasn’t the only one who heard it, the general confusion on his friends face proved that.

I-” He couldn’t hear it anymore.

Looking around, nothing really appeared out of the ordinary. But ordinarily you’d never see, let alone hear a dog at Hogwarts of all places. “Did… you heard that right?” The nod his friend gave as they continued to the small hall only proved the fact once again, there was no way they’d imagined it and the fact that it was totally a dog, there was a dog- and who cared where it came from- because there was a dog on school grounds somewhere and oh my god he hadn’t seen a dog since summer.

Was it a real dog?

Or a trick? Maybe a spell?

The spiral of thoughts didn’t get too far, because no sooner had they made it to the Small Hall that he heard it again. Barking. There was a dog, closer this time, and man oh man was it barking like crazy!

Dude!” Elsian couldn’t help the excited smile as he stopped, looking around like the rest of the students nearby as the barking got closer. “Did someone sneak a dog inside? I gotta see this-

There was a blur of gold, quickly followed by a very majestic roll as a dog-

because yes there was a dog, that was totally a dog in front of him sliding and tumbling along the floor and knocking into students like the world's most cheerful bowling ball on this side of the wizarding community.

Students yelled. A first year toppled to the floor, another victim in the growing list to this majestic creature's hit list.

Elsian could only stand in slack jawed awe at the chaos in front of him before a small laugh tore itself from his throat, eyes brightening as he looked at his friend in slight disbelief and back to the dog. Because by Merlin's flappy robes there was a dog. There was a dog, there was a dog, there was a dog-

Oh my god I need to pet the dog.” He gasped, a look to his friend as he shoved their borrowed books into the others hands, “I’ll catch up later, but-

He looked back just as the barking began again full force, and for a moment, genuine fear mixed with the Gryffindors pure joy and excitement as he saw the dog barreling straight for him full force.

Oh cra-” He didn’t get to finish his words.

Elsian had never been full body tackled to the ground by a dog before. But he couldn’t say it was the worst way to go.

It beat bludgers. And annoying housemates. And even hexes. But that was probably due to the fact the dog that was currently crushing him after slamming him into the ground very obviously was pleased to see him. He didn’t know how a dog had come to be here. Nor why it chose him amongst all these students to tackle for affection and what he could only assume a lifetime of friendship.

What he did know was he was extremely smug about it.

Yes the landing had hurt, but it paled in the face of being able to give the wild, barking dog ear scratches as he laughed, barely able to get an arm behind him to sit up before he was subjecting his friend to the brightest, most smug look known to wizard kind as he ran his fingers through the animals soft fur.

This was amazing.

The dog had chosen him.

For a solid few moments Elsian basked in it. Ignoring the strangeness of the situation, because you didn’t survive long in this community if you tried to make sense of everything, but eventually between the barks and pets and general amazing-ness of the situation…his arm began to grow numb.

Okay…this is awesome,” Elsian began, fingers patting the dogs head, “but my weak noodle arm is falling asleep. I need to sit up, Goldie.

He huffed as the weight of the dog disappeared, straightening to sit up from his inelegant sprawl across the floor. Now that the initial excitement began to crawl to a stop, confusion replaced it. Elsi was still happy of course. Still smug as hell that he got to pet the dog but the longers he thought about it, the longer he actually looked at the dog…well he couldn’t quite place his finger on it but he felt like he was missing a very important key detail to this little surpris-

He stopped.

There, on the right hind leg, was an oh so familiar, impossible to ignore mark that could only belong to-

DORI?!?!

The dog-no Dori, it was definitely Dorion- seemed to spring to life with new excitement that was, quite frankly, the cutest shit he ever saw. Whether that was because they were the first dog he’d seen for the better part of a year or because now he knew it was Dori remained to be seen.

Either way, the knowledge. The realization of what Dorion had finally accomplished had the boy practically leaping to his feet, hands combing through his hair in excited disbelief as he began to babble. “Holy shit! YOU DID IT!” He exclaimed, with a laugh. “YOU’RE A DOG! Wait-” He made an aborted gesture to Dorion. “You’re a dog.

"Oh my god, I have the coolest boyfriend ever; you’re a dog."

Nobody would ever be able to beat him in the partner lottery. Dorion was just perfect and he was never letting go and-

Oh…oh Dorion had…so much power now.

He knelt down to sandwich the other squishy dog face between his hands, aiming a very serious, very solemn look at the other. “You have the power to mess with the minds of so, so many people now, Creampuff.

Then with a brighter grin, fingers loosening to so he could jump up in a shared excitement as he added, “I’m awed and terrified of whatever stunts you pull with your new doggy form.
