Spring was on its onset, colouring the skies with its hues. Despite the beauty of the spring, a certain sort of tension was taking over the students of the castle. It was the last term, and exams were approaching fast. The professors had started giving them double if not triple of the homework they used to get in the starting of the year.
Violet never got to realise how time flew by, and how comfortable she had gotten with Hogwarts. But right now, she couldn't help but feel anxious. She wanted to do her best, and even though her parents never explicitly expected something from her, she knew they had high hopes.
Violet had prepared herself a strict time schedule, which left her with little to almost no breaks. Not realising, she had actually started stressing herself. And a stressed person was bound to have a break down.

And this day was one such day. After studying all morning in the library, she finally couldn't take it anymore, her brain had reached its limit.
Finally with her head aching, she decided to have a stroll in the grounds to help her feel refreshed.

She exited the library and took the flight of stairs to reach the ground. Walking around she reached a tree and saw a calico cat with bright green eyes sitting under the tree. Violet blinked at the cat, not understanding how it might have ended there. 'Did someone leave this cat here or did it run away? Anyhow I should probably look for its owner', Violet thought to herself. She slowly lowered herself down infront of the cat and gently petted her."Why are you here alone, kitty? Your parent will be so worried about you...", Violet said as if she thought the cat could understand her.

The calico cat looked up as she saw a black-haired girl walking across the grounds. She cocked her head as the girl spied her and approached her. Rose couldn't tell for sure, but the girl looked kind of... stressed. She wondered if she was okay. The girl did approach her, after all. Rose looked up at her as she stood in front of her, curious. She didn't really recognize her. The calico cat stood up on her hind legs, then reached a white paw towards the raven-haired girl as she lowered herself down.

She pushed her head into the girl's hand. Since becoming an animagus, she understood why animals loved being pet so much- it was such a nice sensation against her fur. It would have been weird if she was a human, but in her cat form, it felt so good. Rose had decided that she must be pretty cute in her cat form, too, because this wasn't the first time she was approached by someone.

The girl asked her why she was there alone, and wondered if her parent would be concerned about her. Rose's whiskers twitched in amusement. If only she knew that Rose could understand her. Rose was a pet parent herself. Rose's own cat, Chaska, was often roaming the grounds when Rose was in classes. But she supposed that she would be at least a little concerned if she saw another animal out here by itself, too. And, since she wasn't a full-grown human, she wasn't full-grown in her feline form, either. She supposed that made her look smaller than your average-sized cat, too.

Rose wondered if she should turn to her human form. Whenever she interacted with people in her feline form, she almost felt like she was lying to them. They didn't know she could understand them, and that she was truly a human. She closed her eyes, and supposed she could let the kind girl pet her for a moment longer.

Violet giggled slightly as the Calico cat extended her white paw towards Violet. The cat pushed her head in Violet's hand which was previously grazing her. That weirdly relaxed her. She gently stroked the cat's calico coat, which Violet noticed had some ginger patches that made the cat look unique and prettier.
She remembered those days when she used to be scared of cats, even her house cat. Her house cat, Serene, in the very beginning, had approached baby Violet, though out of affection, but Violet got scared of her claws so she hid behind her mother, crying while clutching her robes. But after that Serene and Violet's relationship sky-rocketed, with them becoming the best of friends. Oh, how she loved to pet her snow-white fur. However, Serene had an untimely death, the reason still being unknown to Violet. Violet was with Serene, last year when she died. She still dearly missed her Serene who she so lovingly called Sere but had never talked about her or even mentioned ever since she had come to Hogwarts. The young girl had avoided cats until now when she got worried about this little Calico friend. She smiled slightly and turned towards the Calico cat. She checked for a collar and frowned when she didn't find one. "You don't have a collar either, how am I supposed to return you to your parent? You shouldn't run away, you know. You must have made your parent so worried. Naughty little cat.", she scolded the cat, slightly shaking her head in disapproval and stopped petting the cat.
However she couldn't stay disappointed with the cat for too long, it was too cute to ignore. So she smiled once again, petting the cat, "You want to be friends little kitty? Paw my palm in agreement, alright?", Violet asked the cat, actually hoping she understood her.

Rose felt herself purring as the girl petted her. Rose felt like you could sometimes tell people's character by the way they treated animals. There was no real way that Rose could do anything for this girl, but she still decided to be kind to her, and Rose was sure that said a lot about someone. It was because of this that Rose felt like she could trust this black-haired girl.

The girl seemed concerned that she had run away, and called her naughty. Rose sat back on her haunches, pretending to be offended as the girl pretended to be stern. But Rose knew that wouldn't last long- in her feline form, it was clearly difficult to be mad at her for too long.

The girl asked her if she wanted to be friends, and instructed her to paw her hand in agreement. Rose looked at the girl's open palm. How strange would Rose think a cat was if the cat could understand her English. Rose reached out a white paw and placed it on the girl's hand, waiting for her reaction.

She purred and backed up a couple of steps, supposing that she should really reveal herself as a human before the girl picked her up and tried to find her owner. She didn't truly mind being picked up on occasion- it was cozy, and sort of nice to be held. But it was a dizzying experience for the ground to rush away from her so fast at first. Rose, a safe couple of feet from the girl, transformed into her human form. Her black, white, and red fur shifted to long red hair and tan, freckled skin, though her green eyes stayed the same.

The redhead flushed, tucking her hands behind her back. "I'm so sorry if I startled you," she said, apologetic. "I'm an animagus- I can turn back and forth," she explained. "Um, I'm Rose. What's your name?"

Violet giggled as the cat sat back on its haunches as if it was offended.
Strangely, as Violet forwarded her palm for friendship, the cat pawed her hand. She furrowed her brows, slightly confused. 'Did the cat just understand what I had said', Violet thought, ' Or maybe she just understood my actions and emotions. Maybe her parent had taught her to paw whenever they held out their hand.' With that thought, her furrowed brows straightened out and she complimented the cat, "Smart cat!"
Suddenly the cat backed down, and Violet thought she was scared of something, so, she looked around trying to find anything that could potentially cause the cat harm.
Finding nothing, she looked back at the spot where the cat had walked to, and instead found a tall fiery-red haired girl, who looked a lot older than her. She slightly flinched and mumbled out a a confused "Huh?"
The cloud of confusions were puffed out as the older girl explained her sudden appearance. Violet slightly frowned. 'So I was talking to a human all the time.'
Suddenly realisation hit her hard, her eyes widened, and she wondered out loud, "An Animagus!? That is so cool!"
"My name is Violet. Violet Rohr., she introduced herself. Violet continued, "I have heard, this transformation is probably the hardest of all the transfigurations?"

The girl, who seemed impressed by feline Rose's response, must have wondered if the cat could understand what she was saying. Rose could- it was a strange feeling, because she could also, strangely, understand cats. That had been a shock that she didn't even think about when becoming an animagus. She had to sufficiently calm down her own cat, Chaska, and explain to her why she could turn into a cat. Chaska, being a cat, didn't truly understand, and was still a little freaked out about it.

The girl had a much more relaxed response than some other people she had transformed in front of. Sometimes, others freaked out or were immensely startled, but this girl, though confused at first, was a little more awestruck than startled. Rose didn't think she truly deserved awestruck, but she was at least glad the girl wasn't scared of her. Rose smiled, relieved at her reaction. "Thank you."

Then, the dark-haired girl introduced herself in response to Rose, saying her name was Violet Rohr. Rose didn't know if Rohr was a middle name or a last name. Maybe it was a middle name, like one of those people who went by two names, or maybe this girl was just fancy and always introduced herself using her last name. Rose, unsure of how to ask, concluded she'd call her Violet Rohr, since she introduced herself that way. "That's so pretty," Rose said.

Violet was clearly familiar with the animagus process already. "Yes," Rose said, exasperated at the thought of it. "I researched it for weeks and it took over a month to complete. It was quite complicated." Rose shrugged. "I can understand why, though. It's a very useful ability, to have two forms you can shift into. How did you know about animagi?"

After giving the younger student time to answer, she took a seat on the grass under the tree, where she was when Violet found her, and said, "Would you like to join me?" If the girl obliged, she'd ask, "What brings you out to the grounds today?"

Violet thanked her senior when she complimented her name. The younger girl instantly straightened her back, excited to know more about the other girl's transformation process. "That does sound extremely hard, but it is still so exciting. It honestly gets boring, living as a human all the time.", Violet said giggling and continued, "Well, I know about Animagi, my mother has an animagus too. Like you, she can turn into a cat as well. I am not sure about my father though. Never really heard him talking about it."
The young girl could not, however, contain her curiosity and so she asked, "I am not particularly sure about this but I have heard, that the reason why every person has a different animagus is because these reflect their personality. Is that really true?"

As Rose asked the younger one if she had like to join, Violet obliged as she scooted slightly closer, keen on discussing more with her senior. Violet further answered the question the older girl had asked, "I just found myself here, tired of studying. I have been studying since the morning. Exams are approaching quite fast. It will be my first time sitting for examinations and the lone thought of it is nerve wrecking. I have been trying to study as hard as I can." Saying what she had to say, Violet released a sigh that she had been holding since long.

Rose giggled a little at Violet's words. Yes, knowing about animagi and having to be a human all the time did make it a little boring in comparison. She shared that her own mother was an animagus and could turn into a cat, and Rose raised her eyebrows. "That's so cool!" she said. "Does she turn into a cat often?" she asked. At the younger girl's question, Rose nodded. "Yes, that's true. It's kinda like your Patronus. A more timid person might turn into a mouse, while a fearless person might turn into a lion." Rose wasn't completely confident in why she was a cat, but she could see the reasoning. She was quieter, and didn't love attention all the time, and she almost had feline-like reactions. There was more and more about herself that was cat-like that she had noticed since she had first become an animagus.

The girl shared about how she was preparing for exams that were coming up, and mentioned that this was her first time sitting for exams. "You're a first year?" Rose asked, confirming. She shook her head. "You'll be fine," she reassured Violet. "The fact that you've studied puts you way ahead of other students when I was a first year. Some just thought they'd be able to wing it," she said, laughing. "And while some can just walk in exams and get an O, some weren't so lucky. I assure you, keep working hard until exams get here and you'll do amazing," she encouraged her. Then, a little teasingly, she said, "At least you don't have to take OWLs. And besides, it's February, and school ends in June. You have time."
