Closed Surprise! A Valentine Race Pv

Sometimes the best gifts in life were surprises.

It was a thought Elsian hadn’t always appreciated, especially back when he was younger. But as he kept growing up, with each year that came and went…he’d begun to truly believe some of the best moments in his life had been the surprises thrown at him and all the tiny spontaneous moments he shared with others.

And today, he’d decided, would be one such surprise. Not for himself but for Dori.

He fiddled with the paper airplane from where he’d tucked himself, smiling softly at the silly doodles you could see tucked in the folded corners of the yellow paper as he waited for Dorion to pass through the halls towards their next class. He’d known their route just as well as they probably knew his and he could only hope they’d weren’t too upset about his flightness throughout the morning as he tried to plan and hold down the urge to spring the trap too early. The trap being a Valentine Day date for Dori one that involved…a bit of rule breaking.

He didn’t have to wait long. Dori was punctual, enough, as usual. The familiar sound of their voice filling the halls as they began to walk towards class with some friends.

Peeking around the corner of his hallway his heart melted a little at the familiar frazzled sight of his partner, his boyfriend, because wasn’t it amazing he could claim that? He laughed to himself, pushing away the thoughts that threatened to fill his head. Focus was something he needed, focus on the bloody airplane before they actually wandered away to class!

It was a silly thing. Covered in doodles and silly messages and horrible, childish poetry he knew would win a snort or laugh for the ridiculousness of it all. Things like ‘Happy Valentines Day Creampuff!’ or ‘come on a date with me coward!’, followed by a shitty doodle of a lion throwing a rose at a badger. But most important was the very simple message written in the middle of the paper with a doodle of a golden snitch-

‘Follow Me.’

Stepping out from his spot as Dorion walked past his spot, back to him he aimed the enchanted plane, launching it into the air towards Dorion as it magically honed in on the one it was meant for. It wouldn’t taken a genius to realize who it was meant for if the way the airplane was drawn to Dori was any indicator, the words ‘To Creampuff’ on the left wing also probably helped though…he didn’t bother hiding himself, leaning against the wall as Dorion opened and read the note before following the direction it came from.

It wasn’t until they locked eyes that he began to move, grinning at them with a wave as he ducked down the hallway. An obvious invitation to follow. And hurry if they didn’t want to miss out. Because you couldn’t let Dori have the time to doubt themself, it was a surefire way to have a surprise ruined. No, he had to lead them a bit away from the normal path. From their friends. From the constant knowledge they had somewhere to be with a deadline breathing down their neck. But he also had to make sure they didn’t decide it wasn’t worth it, and that meant a balance of tricking them away and then convincing them to follow through the rest of the way.

So he stopped after they’d gotten far enough, twisting around a corner to press himself against the wall as he waited for Dori. Listening to the sound of their footsteps grow closer and closer in that fast step step step they had when they had places to be, things to do, until they wandered straight past him-

He laughed, unable to help himself and immediately giving his location away as he pushed himself off the wall.

Stepping up behind them Elsian wasted no time in wrapping his arms around Dorions waist as they paused, chin hooked over their shoulder in a familiar move as he hugged them from behind. “Guess who Creampuff!” He teased, giving the other a small squeeze in greeting before he loosened his hold.

Sadly, for all Elsian had become a firm believer in spontaneity being key in life-

- not everyone shared those thoughts. At least not at first.

Dorion, Elsian thought, taking in their anxious face as they turned to face him, was one such individual.

Brownie bite, come on! You know today’s supposed to be important.

If he hadn’t known the other for 5 years he might’ve been inclined to listen to such reason simply based on the others tone. Elsian, however, knew better, aiming a disapproving look at his boyfriend for his choice of words. Years of watching them stress and make themselves sick over even the simplest of school days and work had made him wary of what could be considered important and to his knowledge there were no tests to speak of today. No giant projects or special once in a lifetime experiences.

Only the threat of wasting a perfect day, perfect Valentines Day, to a stuffy classroom.

You say that every day…about every class!” He pointed out with a dramatic pout.

He linked their fingers together, spinning them around until they were on the right track for their destination, the staircase just around the corner. Elsi began dragging the other forwards with every slow step he took backwards, a familiar hint of a smile hidden in the corner of his lips where he tried to keep a serious face. “Besides,” he offered slyly, “how often do I get to do something special for my boyfriend on Valentine's Day?

A trick question. There were still plenty of hours in the day.

But would they really be cruel enough to ditch him on their first Valentine's Day?

C’mon, one tiny adventure! Just a trip down the halls so I can give you part of your Valentine gift? It’s by the staircase with my bag;” he swung their hands childishly, lip pursing into a frown that totally wasn’t a pout as he waited for their answer, “pretty please?

Happy late Valentines Day Creampuff!

Also, special thanks to Dori for the permission to write them being an anxious mess of a huffpuff. I can't take the credit for the dialogue, for it was all them and their witty thinking~

It was Dorion's first Valentine's Day in a hot minute where they had actually been in a relationship. Fourth year they almost kissed Percival Gray and became the unwilling host of a hag slug shortly after their breakup with Astrea, so all in all a bad one. The one before is when they had asked Astrea out in the first place. Second and first year were unremarkable in general.

They were giving themselves a bit of grace for planning something big for Valentine's Day since they had gone all out for Christmas and figured Elsi would hate to be out-done twice. So he would be getting something from the owls during the lunch delivery. Otherwise- Dori was waiting for the excitable Gryffindor to come out of somewhere with a plan, and they didn't have to wait long at all.

Post-breakfast on their morning walk to class with some of their friends, honestly they weren't looking forward to it but it was what it was. Their heart couldn't help but skip a little beat remembering that they were going to be able to sit beside Elsi during the class. Hopefully- he would let them focus. It was always a 50/50 on if Elsi was going to be in a focus mood for class. As they turned to beeline for the entrance though, a paper airplane smacked them in the back of the head. "Ow! What was that?"

Why did Elsi throw it after they had walked past? The world may never know. One of their friends picked it up and handed it over- seeing the trademark 'Creampuff' marking it from a certain someone that anyone close to them would know.

Dori took themselves to the side of the hallway out of the flow of traffic to be able to properly read what was on the assailant of an airplane. It was covered in little things- almost reminiscent of how Dori decorated some of the 12 Days of Christmas. "A date...?" They giggled and shook their head. "Probably just before class, right?" After spotting the golden snitch from their little Gryffindor seeker their eyes scanned the crowd, only taking a moment before their eyes met emerald that seemed to melt them. The letter quickly got tucked away as Elsi turned and started to walk through the crowded corridor.

Their form quickly dropped onto all fours as they transformed into their animagus form to dodge through the crowd, keeping the bottom of Elsi's morning laziness of pajama pants peeking out from the bottom of his robes in sight. They were too short to really keep him in their sight otherwise, but once they had exited the crowd they returned to their human form and rounded the corner. "Elsi- Ahh!"

Quickly they were wrapped in familiar arms, his head tucked onto their shoulder. They couldn't help but lean back into it, trying to forget the edge of anxiety forming around their heart as they came closer and closer to being late to class. "Is it... someone about to make us very late to class?" They turned their head, giving Elsi a peck on the side of his head before wriggling to turn around after his hold loosened. "Brownie bite, come on! You know today's supposed to be important." Technically- every day of class was important. Something that they tried to point out to Elsi every time. Which... they did immediately get called out on.

But Elsi's pout was matched with one of their own, a small stomp of their feet accompanying it. "Because it's truuuuuue." With a small groan and a last look back in the direction of their class, they finally let themselves be led away. Mostly because he called them his boyfriend. It had already been almost 2 months but they still weren't used to it. They had been friends for five years prior, so it could still be considered a big change.

"You're lucky I love you, fine. You're also lucky I'm not a prefect, I was once upon a time so this kind of thing still eeks me out." Twice upon a time but who was counting- just Dori. "Why did you leave your bag unattended? I would've still come with you even if you had your bag." They couldn't help but skip lightly with the big swinging of their arms, it felt right. Besides, it was Valentine's Day so they should let loose a little. Right? "We're going to our other classes though- mark my words."

An empty threat, because Dori knew with whatever Elsi had planned... they definitely weren't going to their other classes today.

The peck inspired a silly grin to cross his face. Another day, another moment only proving to the boy his tricks and plans only lead to reward and profit.

Nooo?” He began. Because technically speaking you had to show up to class in the first place to be late. So they would, in fact, not be late! Because they were skipping. Something that Dori, sweet, perfect, wonderful Dori would surely forgive and would look back on fondly instead of scolding him… “Please, when have I ever made you late?” Eyes fluttered innocently for good measure he swung their hands playfully as Dorion groaned and whined back even as they dutifully began to follow.

He cheered when Dori finally agreed, quickly dragging the Hufflepuff around the corner cheerfully.

Success was sweet.

Oh…ha ha, yeah…” He chuckled awkwardly, suddenly looking away, “Silly right? Shoulda known you’d still come.” Yeah… yeah they could totally go with whatever Dorion was thinking and ignore the fact Elsian had, in fact, left the bag there out of laziness after he’d forgotten to grab it about 5 minutes prior.

Dori didn’t need to know how often he left it lying around…

Fiiine,” he groaned playfully, dragging his feet dramatically the last few steps before they reached the stairs. “I can’t believe you’re making me learn. Disgusting really.

If they were fast enough they MIGHT be able to go to like-

Their last class at the end of the day? Maybe?

Eh, it probably didn’t matter. After all, what was 1 day of classes compared to a day full of nice memories? And Dori deserved nice things, like flowers and surprise hugs, even if they didn’t seem to think so sometimes.

One surprise coming up,” he began teasingly as they reached the stairs, bag innocently waiting at the side, “Now close your eyes and wait right here.” Said spot was right next to the stairs, and upon the other listening he let go of Dorions hand. Quick to grab his bag and riffle through it.

2 fabrics were dragged out. Small, with a shape like beach towels and just big enough to comfortably sit on. He threw both onto the ground quickly, along the top most step, a blue one for him and one yellow for Dori. Very quietly, and making sure the fabric didn’t slip away with the spell he whispered the incantation, “Glisseo.” Watching as the stairs shifted and transformed into something like a slide right before his eyes.

Okay,” he grinned, fighting down an excited laugh, “keep your eyes closed, and come this way-” grabbing Dori’s hand he guided them carefully onto the fabric. “Perfect. Now sit down.” Plopping down beside them, he squeezed their hand in his. “Okay, on 3 you can open your eyes, Creampuff!

One…” he shoved his bag down the new slide with his foot silently, watching it quickly disappear out of sight.

Two-

Cheekily, he leaned forward pressing a small kiss to Dorions cheek as he let go of the others hand. Pressing it against their back-

Three!” And he gave them a small push, shoving them forward onto the slide. “Surprise!” He cheered, beginning to laugh as Dori began to slide down-

Have fun Creampu-AHH!” He choked on the words, laughter cutting off as Dori grabbed his foot, dragging him down as he gave a surprised, little screech. He barely shifted onto his own piece of fabric, one hand trying to clutch the side of the stair railing-

And then they were both sliding down the new stair slide. Elsian’s surprised screech echoing in the newly abandoned hall as they fell out of sight.
