A Feathery Friend Pet

The warm and familiar air of the pet shop greeted Alyx as she gently swung open the door to the shop and glanced around with a smile creeping onto her face. She could see all the animals in their enclosures together chittering and scampering around. Alyx could also see other kids there too, looking at the animals. The air of the store brought back memories of when Alyx had boughten her pet at the begining of the school year...

Alyx was walking down Diagon Alley with her father, her school books in her arms and a box with her wand on top of the stack. She had recieved her acceptance letter a week prior, filling her with excitement as the sights sounds and smells of the alley surrounded her. She gazed around with awe as other witches and wizards scurried around the alley, obviously in a rush. Her father glanced down at the letter, muttering to himself as his eyes glazed over the list, "A standard pewter cauldron, yes...rememberball...yes..." Alyx looked forewards as they walked a wide grin across her face, when she spotted the pet store, her heart leaping out of her chest with excitement as she called her father, "Dad! Can we go in there?" She stopped walking for a moment to shift her books onto one arm in order to point, giving her father enough time to look up, dodge someone walking by, and look. Through the window various animals such as cats, lizards, rats, even fish could be seen in their enclosures. Alyx's father gave her a look before sighing and chucking, stuffing the list of school supplies securly in his pocket, "Sure. Let's just look at pets with a reasonable price, okay?"

Alyx nodded eagerly as they walked into the store. Alyx entered the store and the warm and pleasant sound of the chittering animals and murmuring children greeted Alyx and it somehow widened her grin. Alyx immedietly rushed over to the cats, cooing as she pet them. "Dad! Look at this one! It look just like Chestnut!" She pointed to a orange tabby cat purring and grooming itself. Alyx had cats back home, and she did love cats, but none of the cats there (although she thought they were all adorable) were what she nessisarially wanted. She then moved on to the bunnies and ferrets, once again spending some time looking at them and cooing while gently peting them.

She was turning to look at the lizards and frogs when she spotted her favourite animals. Owls. Alyx wasn't allowed to keep a bird at home, but she loved to watch them fly around in the mornings, and she would practice doodling them whenever she got bored. She curiously looked and studied each of the owls with awe, making note of the beautiful feather patterns. A particular owl caught her eye, a small owl was preening on a perch, it was the smallest owl there. Alyx took a moment to admire it before timidly going up to the shop keeper, "Um. Excuse me miss, how much is that owl?" Alyx pointed to the small owl on it's perch, now it wasn't preening up staring at Alyx curiously and intently. The shopkeeper looked up at Alyx and warmly smiled, "Oh that eastern screech owl? Yes they are 15 galleons." Alyx smiled back and respectfuly noded, "Thank you!" before rushing to her father asking if she could buy it.

He frowned for a moment, "15? That...seems a bit expensive Alyx." He set the books and cauldron he was holding down for a moment so that he could check his wallet "Yeah I'm sorry Alyx... 10, maybe 11 galleons is the farthest. We still need to buy your cloaks." Alyx's smile faded a little and she noded. She was dissapointed and she put her hands in her pocket for a moment. She was going to turn to look at the bunnies again when she felt something in her pocket, something cold. And she felt more than one, like somethings cold. It took her a moment to realize but when she did she was overjoyed. Her grandmother right before they had left had given her four galleons to spend on something she fancied in diagon alley, and this owl was something she knew she fancied. Excitedly she showed her father the galleons and he agreed that she could get the owl.

They walked over to the counter where the shopkeepers were, dusting the counter and assisting other children. "Excuse me" Alyx spoke a little timidly, waiting for one of the shopkeepers to finish whatever they were doing, " Excuse me Mrs., could I please purchase the Eastern Screech Owl?" the shopkeeper smiled and nodded carefully getting the owl into a travel cage and placed it on the counter. "15 galleons, please." Alyx eagerly placed the four galleons her grandmother gave her on the counter and her father placed eleven. "Take good care of him" the shopkeeper said with a warm smile as she took the money, and Alyx took the traveling cage cautiously.

They were walking in diagon alley once more to madam malkin's and Alyx was observing the bird, cooing to it as it observed her as well with the same amount of curiosity. "I think I'll name you..." Alyx thought for a moment before smiling "Tarma." The small bird gave a small trill, almost as if aproving it's new name...

Alyx snapped out of her memory and gave a glance around the store before striding towards a display rack. She then took a bag of owl treats, payed for it, and walked out of the store, with a wide grin on her face.
