Over the Edge
The room was dark as Viva lay in bed, tossing and turning. The girl was so homesick she couldn't sleep, staring at the curtains around her. I miss my family... The last few days had been hard on Viva: lots of homework, mean bullies, not enough sleep. She already dealt with panic attacks and anxiety, now she was missing home as well. She had written a letter to her mother earlier, before bedtime, but hadn't had time to take it to the owlery and send it as it had been almost curfew.
Viva sat up. She couldn't bare this anymore. Even though Genevieve Delacourt was the typical goody-two-shoes who had never broken a rule or had detention in her life, she was going to go out after curfew. She needed to! The pain and homesickness inside Viva throbbed as she grabbed her letter from a desk and stuffed it in her pyjama pocket. Very quietly so as not to wake anybody, holding her wand, she crept out of the common room.
She shivered as she hurried down the corridors, making the long journey up to the owlery. The castle was dark and gloomy, and not a soul was about. The little pale figure anxiously climbed up the stairs, just passing the Ravenclaw common room when she slipped on a small puddle of water and went crashing to the floor. BANG! Viva's wand hit the stone, making a loud noise. Heart beating faster then ever, Viva scrambled to her feet, grabbed her wand, and was about to continue hurriedly on her way when the door to the Ravenclaw common room opened.
