The Adventure Begins
Matthew took a deep breath, "Just run at the wall between the platforms" a beautiful looking woman had said to him just minutes before. As if it was the simplest, most mundane thing in the world, Matthew repeated the words in his head, shut his eyes and did as the woman said. Feeling a strange pull in his stomach he found himself running full force into a wall and like magic he appeared on a new platform, letting out a small sigh of relief he felt the presence of his father clasp onto his shoulder behind him. Like magic he thought to himself, "wow I can really say that now" a wave of emotion he had been holding back for months suddenly washed over him as he realised that this wasn't a dream he was going to wake up from. This was really happening the beginning of his new life.
Matthew turned to face his father, Patrick, a tall, athletic man with blonde curls and deep hazel eyes mirroring Matthew's own, who looked down at him with pride glowing on his face. "Have you gotten everything?" he asked Matthew, "Yes Dad, I'm as ready as I'll ever be! Give Dad a hug for me when you get home, I miss him already." He knew his other father Sean would have been here if he could but being a lawyer he had priorities that couldn't be neglected, still Matthew lost himself in a memory of the day Sean came into their lives. His father Patrick had been struggling since the loss of his mother and Sean had moved into their neighboring flat. After a long day at a dead end job Patrick had picked up to support the two of them he came home to find Matthew crying in his room talking to a picture of his mother. It broke Patrick's heart and he had to take a minute in the corridor outside their flat to put on a brave face for his son. That's where he met Sean who asked him if he was alright and demanded Patrick took the night off, that he would cook and that for even just 5 minutes they could put a pause on the world. It was the best meal either Matthew or Patrick had had since Holly passed and would be the start of the rest of their lives. Matthew pondered over if the cooking at Hogwarts would be able to hold up to Seans before being snapped back to reality as his father interrupted his thoughts.
"Earth to Matty... thought we had lost you there for a second." his father joked as he held his son by his shoulders "Your father and I are so proud of you and she would be too!" tears welling in his fathers eyes he apologised for how he had reacted when they found out about Matthew's admittance. Not wanting to lose his only son Patrick had told him he wasn't going but with the help of the wonderful Hogwarts professor and a great deal of pleading from Matthew he had changed his mind. Tensions had still been high since then for the past few months and while Patrick knew his son needed this he was still scared but he looked down at his son anyways and told him "Write as often as you can! I love you, that will never change. Be safe... oh and Matty enjoy every last second of it!" Picking Matty up in a hug goodbye, he squeezed him tight before putting him down.
Matthew began to gather his belongings and head towards the mighty Hogwarts Express but at the last second he turned back around, bolted back to his father and hugged him tightly one last time. "Dad, I'm going to miss you so much, thank you. I love you" stepping back he looked at his father one last time and waved goodbye. Running back to the train he stepped on board. found an empty carriage and sat waiting with a million thoughts racing through his head and a new world awaiting him. He looked out the window of the train at his father and looked towards the sky, reaching for a chain necklace. He held the ring that hung on it tight and said "Look after him mum. I love you."
