harsh impact and determination
It was bitter cold as the sun drew closer and closer to the horizon. Pippa was bundled up in her warmest coat and scarf but it didn't stop her from shivering as the wind sliced at her uncovered face. She raised her hands covered with thick yellow gloves to her ears to provide them some relief. She'd forgotten her earmuffs for this little adventure down to the lake.
Pippa craved time outside, which was often difficult to get due to the brutal cold this time of year. She trudged through the thick snow while she walked the perimeter of the Great Lake. Her socks were soaked after only a few minutes had passed. Truly, it was starting to feel miserable.
With no one to converse with in the near vicinity, Pippa began speaking aloud to herself, "Oh goodness, it's cold." She let out an audible laugh at the thought of such an obvious statement. "So strange to think my dorm is probably just under here." With intentions of making a mark at the location, she jumped up and as she landed, Pippa slipped on a layer of ice underneath her. Instinctively, her fragile arms flew behind her to stop her bottom from hitting the ground to hard and locked as they made impact with the ground. Pippa couldn't keep herself from yelping and then crying out as she began to feel the pain shooting from her wrists to her elbows.
Tears rolled steadily down her cheeks as she laid back, the wet snow soaking her blonde hair. She groaned and whined, but Pippa knew she couldn't wait around in the cold winter snow falling heavily around her. Already several minutes had passed and the lake area was empty. No one was around and no one could save her. "It has to be you. Get up." Pippa demanded to her body. Struggling to get a grip under her feet without using her arms to lift herself, Pippa tried multiple times before she finally was up again.
The tears didn't stop but neither did Pippa. With her arms dangling at her side, because she was too afraid of the pain that comes with touching them, she slowly made her way to the castle so she could check in to the hospital wing.
