A new adventure!
Mylo stood in front of the entrance to kings cross station, a nervous look on his face. He had never been away from home for more than a few days, a sleepover at their friends or a short outing with other homeschooled kids in the area was the most they'd done before. Before they could start to talk themselves out of going his dad James had noticed his kid starting to fidget, a telltale sign of Mylo's nervousness, and came over to put his hand on Mylo's shoulder.
'Hey, it's okay to be nervous. When I first went to a new school in a new city I nearly passed out I was so nervous, you'll do fine. Try to make some new friends and have some fun! Your dad and I will always be here if you need to contact us for anything, okay?'
Mylo felt a bit of the tension in his body leave after hearing their dad talk about how he too was nervous attending a new school. 'He turned out okay, so will I.' Mylo thought to himself.
He took another deep breath and started walking into the station to try and find out where he had to go to get to the platform, before they could get very far his little sister Andrea sped past them calling out. 'Race ya!' followed by their dad Mike yelling after her, 'No running in the station Andrea, and inside voices!'
After they all got inside the station Mylo checked their letter to see where they had to go, not that they didn't practically know the letter by heart with how many times he'd read and reread it trying to prepare themselves as much as possible, platform 93/4, 'what kind of platform is that?' He thought to themselves. 'Well, it must be somewhere near platform 9, so let's start there.'
As they got onto platform 9 they started walking down to the end looking out for any signs indicating where he needed to go, their dad's started to look a bit confused as well, 'You sure we are at the right place?' his dad Mike asked him. Mylo nodded, 'Platform 93/4 should be on platform 9 right? I can't think of anywhere else it might be.' As they were talking between themselves Andrea comes up to their dad Mike and tugs on his sleeve, trying to get his attention. 'Dad, I heard that lady over there talking about some weird platform, the same weird platform you guys were talking about, do you think they might know where to go? I don't want to walk allllll the way to the end to walk alllllll the way to the beginning.'
Before any of them could say anything further the lady Andrea was talking about comes up to them, 'Did I hear correctly that you guys are looking for platform 93/4? It's just that pillar over there, get yourself a good running start and have faith! I hope you enjoy your school years!' She starts talking to Mylo's dads about the school, and Mylo looks at the wall and thinks to himself 'that looks pretty sturdy'. Before he can bring up their concerns about the solid wall they apparently have to run through he sees another young child run and disappear into the wall.
Mylo's dads comes back over to them and give him a big hug, 'You'll do fine, make some friends and have fun, we'll be here for you at all times.' his dad James says. Andrea looks at him and says, 'Do I get your room now?' Mylo scoffs at this and quickly responds to her, 'Yeah right, I'm still coming back for holidays, you do know that right?' Before giving her a hug as well.
Taking another deep breath he gears himself up to run full speed into a brick wall, having seen other children do the same unfortunately does not calm his nerves. They give one last wave to their family and picks up his pace.
As soon as he gets through the wall they hear the train that will bring them into a new chapter in his life, around him they see children like them, new and returning students, children who are nervous and children who seem to not have any cares in the world. Stepping onto the train they think to themselves, 'I wonder what this adventure is going to bring'
