Finished A New Life

Kate couldn't believe that this day had finally arrived. Ever since she had received her letter from Hogwarts, life had felt like an un-ending dream. She had worried that one morning she would open her eyes and find that her world had returned to its normal, dull state.

When she had first received her acceptance, it came as a complete shock. She was an only child- born into a well-educated and successful muggle family, who had high hopes for her in the social and professional world. Her parents had spent many late nights arguing about whether or not Hogwarts would be right for her, and what it would mean for her future. As much as the thought of growing up away from them made her insides ache, Kate knew that this world was what she had been waiting for. So when the time finally came for Kate to make the journey to London and Platform 9 3/4, the air was marred by a mixture sadness and anxiety- on everyone's part. The trip to Diagon Alley for her school supplies had been magical and exciting, but it became difficult to focus on anything but the extended time apart that would be beginning in just a few, short hours.

As they arrived to King's Cross, the anxiety grew and grew. Kate was worried about so many different things. She knew hardly anything of the wizarding world and the subjects she would be learning, and the thought of making new friends with those she may not have a lot in common with was especially daunting. She wondered if she would be good at anything. She was not used to being the least informed in a classroom.

As they walked through the pillar to reach platform 9 3/4, the reality had finally set in. Kate's father pulled them into a corner, away from the crowds, and began a large group hug that would last for several minutes. Kate had never seen her parents cry this way before, and breaking free of the hug would be one of the most devastating moments in her life. At last, they all seemed to compose themselves long enough for her to board the train. Her mother stated that she couldn't bear to watch her leave, so they held a final, tearful goodbye before Kate walked towards the glittering, red locomotive that would take her to her new life, and her parents walked back through the barrier to theirs.
