The dueling club was empty. Dark, and quiet, and dusty. Because of course it was, who in their right mind would be inside the dueling club that early? Draven was, but then again, when had Draven ever been in his right mind?

The boy had pulled a mannequin to the center of the room. Dragged it through the dust and the grime to the single illuminated patch of floor. Sunlight shone on the dummy, giving its painted-on face a displeased look.

Before it sat Draven. With an open book in one hand, and a bowl of figs beside him. His legs were tucked underneath himself on the filthy floor. He was wearing an old pair of sweatpants, so frankly, he didn't give a damn.

"Periculum," Draven yawned, pointing the wand at the dummy. Sparks exploded from the tip of the wand, slamming viciously into the puppet and trying to eat away at the worn fabric. Good. "Tarantallegra."

Flashes of light enveloped Draven, one spell flowing into another. His movements were fluid, his voice uninterested. The mannequin danced. It burned. It sneezed. He read the spells out from the textbook one by one, yawning all the while. Damn wand. As soon as he'd wrapped his fingers around it, he hadn't been able to set it down. Glued to his fingers like a curse, the wand wasn't pleased until Draven practiced.

So practice he did whether he liked it or not.

There was no reason to be awake around these hours, even during school days. They have plenty of time to prepare for classes but guess it never hurts to get out of bed early and prepare for the day. But what to do though? Right now, that’s what Raizel wants to know and in hopes of finding that something, she began to roam until she reached the Duelling Club.

She usually doesn’t hang around these parts during this time, heck, she would still be sleeping but for some reason, she chose to wake up early today. She was hesitant to check this place out. Not like she hates it but rather, she had just been avoiding it for a bit. The duelling club and duelling will perhaps forever hold a special place in her heart but right now, the joy that she felt before, the thrill that it brought her was nothing to be found. Duelling is beginning to feel like a chore but she can’t bring herself to quit it.

The Gryffindor simply shook her head, placing a hand on the wooden door, checking if it was already open and indeed, it was and someone was already in there, practicing. Who? She’ll find out soon enough but not like she'll be able to recognize them immediately. In any case, perhaps an early exercise wouldn’t hurt.

Draven missed the comfort headphones brought. He'd discovered the wonderous device during his meanderings in the muggle world, and fallen in love with the feeling of everything fading away but music. It was a special sort of comfort to be able to block everything out but what brought him joy.

A pair of headphones would have been quite nice in the stillness of the dueling club. But, he supposed, then he wouldn't have been able to hear the girl sneaking up behind him.

She was quiet as a cat, slipping inside the dueling club.

Draven cursed himself out for two reasons. Firstly, for sitting with his back toward the only exit. Secondly, for not having done this in the Slytherin common room.

He didn't want to leave.

He'd just gotten into the proper rhythm for casting, just managed to make the words fade away from his mind, make them come instinctively. It was the kind of mood that only came after hours of practice, a zone he couldn't remember how to enter until he was already there.

But with the creek of the door and the sound of footsteps behind him, the world slowly came back into focus.

Draven swallowed, the book in his hand snapping shut.

"Sorry," he told the girl, "I'll be out in a second."

A voice greeted her when she entered but still, it was unrecognizable although it did give her a sense of familiarity, perhaps hearing it in one of her classes. Truth be told, the Gryffindor only knows a couple of classmates, only those that she had interacted with on a day to day basis or those who had somehow formed a close relationship to her. Others are mere acquaintances that she only sees passing by her as she walks down the corridors or strangers that she deliberately forgot as they had proven to be nothing but a waste of time to her. That rarely happens though as that is reserved to those who had wronged her but still, they exist and she would rather have them out of her life.

Eyes were on the boy for a brief second, before shaking her head and then saying. “No, you don't have to leave. Not like this is a private space or something.” She told him with a shrug. The duelling club had always been a hot spot for students, especially those that wanted to get better at casting spells even just against the training dummies that were scattered all over the place.

Raizel made her way to one of the piste present in the room, giving it a gentle touch before turning her head back towards the boy, still trying to recognize who he was again. He sure looks like someone she had seen a couple of times, maybe in class or just down the corridors but his name remains blank. Doesn't look like someone from any duelling team as well. “You’re quite early for a practice.” she told him as she walked towards one of the practice dummies.

"I couldn't sleep," Draven breathed, his attention returning to the dummy. He supposed a couple more minutes couldn't hurt really. The girl didn't seem particularly upset with him. Nor was she paying him much attention, already having turned back to her dummy.

The boy swallowed, looking back down at his hands. Incantations still floated through his mind, an extension of himself more than anything. He couldn't believe how long it had been since he'd picked up a wand. Couldn't believe how long he'd been able to live without it. Magic was his drug and casting was his fix. The axeleration that came with it, the adrenaline pumping through his veins. It was a work of wonder, a sort of miracle, to say something where he stood, and have something else happen ten feet away.

Slowly, the Slytherin's fingers slipped between the pages of the book, pulling it back open. He'd almost worked his way through most of the dueling spells. The hexes, jinxes, and minor charms he'd learned during his first year were coming back. Along with whatever lessons he'd managed to sleep through, when he'd gone to class this year.

A quick incendio hit the practice dummy as his attention returned to his work. An extinguo followed. A fumos, a steleus. Spells merged from one to another, each new incantation flowing from his mind to the tip of his wand. This was fine. He could get back into the rhythm, even if the girl was in the room with him.

Still, it bothered him. She made noise despite her best efforts, dummy scraping against the floor, shoes creeking as she walked. Draven swallowed, trying to focus back on the dummy. It was funny, how hard something you were trying to ignore rushed to the forefront of your mind. If someone were to tell him 'don't think about a pink elephant'- well. He'd be thinking of exactly one thing.

Setting down his wand, Draven licked his dry lips. They were flaking again, and dried blood, the result of a night spent picking at them, was sitting atop his skin. Fumbling through his pockets, the boy pulled out a pair of earplugs. 'Sorry', he felt the need to tell the girl.

Instead, he just pushed them in his ears, feeling his whole body decompress a few seconds later, as a wave of silence drowned out everything.

There were no words exchanged after the boy answered her question, finding nothing wrong with his reasoning on why he is here for an early practice. Not like she is the type of person who will pry deeper into it either. One thing she knows is to mind her own business.

And that's what she did, finding her own training dummy to get some practice in herself before going back to the common rooms and prepare for the day. Might as well make use of her time here even though she wasn't planning on being here in the first place, probably just because of how it became a part of her normal routine to be taking trips to the duelling club and get practicing.

With the day still at its very beginning, the duelling club wasn't as crowded as what she usually sees. There were tons of training dummies to pick from and there was no need to hurry. She chose the one further away from the boy as she doesn't want to bother him once she starts shooting her own spells. From a simple Flipendo to an Incendio. First year spells are good for warm ups before she gets to the higher spells. “Incendio Duo!” A stronger flame compared to its first year counterpart, more devastating due to its strength but that's not what she wanted to master.

Third Year spells.

That's right. If she wants to grow stronger, she needs to go further and thanks to her own skills, some Third Year Spells are already among her arsenal. All she needs now is mastery and that's what she is trying to achieve. The girl made a clockwise turning motion as quick and fluid as possible and then followed by the incantation. “Ventus!” A gust of wind blew from the tip of her wand, heading straight for the dummy. The force wasn't strong enough to blow it off of its feet but it did manage to push it back. The strength of that spell is something that Raizel wasn't used to just yet.

“Need to do better…” Simply being able to cast it isn't enough. She needs better control as her spells tend to go astray from its path and she can't keep on letting it happen. “Do better.” How many times had she told herself that? She lost count already. She did it a couple of times and it sure was tiring trying to concentrate. The Gryffindor was so focused on her own practice that she had forgotten that she wasn't alone. Once she turned around, all she could see was the boy still doing his own thing which is totally understandable.

That should be enough practice for her though as she doesn't want to tire herself out when the day is still starting. If she wants more practice then she'll come back here later on. She gave the dummy one last glance before making her way to the entrance of the duelling club.

He couldn’t keep the plugs in for long. They were great at blocking sound out, and although they did a good job of helping with the sensory overload, everything else was still hell. Draven kept an eye on the girl from his side of the room. His whole body was tense regardless of what he was telling himself. Every few seconds, he’d glance in her respective direction, trying, and failing, to convince himself she would stay to her corner.

And she certainly had the right to not stay in her corner either way. Swallowing, Draven snapped his book closed. He needed to grab food either way. And head to class, perhaps. Yes. That would have been good.

Dropping the book in his bag, the boy cleaned up his work station. The wand was still in his hand, warm and modded to his skin. It didn’t agree with his decision to stop practicing.

He was halfway to the door when the girl decided to leave as well. Draven swallowed past the rising anxiety in his throat, taking a step back and allowing her to pass. He couldn’t explain it to himself. Couldn’t rationalize through why the tiny creature scared him so. Just that she did.

‘Have a good day’, he almost told her. Force of habit. Instead, he held the door open for her.

This sure turned out to be awkward. The boy didn’t seem pleased with her presence here in the duelling club. Well, if he wanted a quieter place and somewhere he could be alone, then he shouldn’t have picked this place. This isn’t some private space. There are better places around Hogwarts that’s a lot better than here if you want to be alone. Then again, who in their right mind would be practicing this early? In a way, she felt bad for the intrusion but again, this isn’t a private place and students are allowed to come and go. She didn’t look at him as she was about to open the door and leave, only for the boy to open it for her. From the looks of it, he was gonna leave as well.

“Thanks.” she told him as she stepped outside, giving a quick glance behind her. She wanted to tell him that he should pick somewhere else other than this place if he’s not comfortable with other people barging in but she stopped herself, finding it… perhaps a bit rude so she didn’t. She shook her head and continued onwards. There are things that she needs to do like prepare for her classes and get something to eat. She did get some practice which is always good. She’ll just hope that the rest of the day will go well.
