Off on an adventure
11:00am
1 September 2023
With a single sighing shudder, the Hogwarts Express began to creek sluggishly along its tracks, catching Steph off guard and pushing her against the dark corridor walls. She scowled in annoyance and gripped her luggage tightly as she straightened herself, and continued to make her way past the compartment doors.
Dressed in a dark green plaid dress to her knees, a colourful, yet dreadfully faded, knit sweater, and black buckled school shoes, it would not be uncalled for to say Steph held a peculiar appearance, only aided by her messy, brown curls and the scratch running from her left ear to her jaw. Her bag, a navy duffel, seemed out of place amongst the neverending leather suitcases, yet despite all, Steph appeared unbothered (or perhaps just unaware) of her oddness, emboldened by her status as a half-blood, and the knowledge that Hogwarts had always been her known destiny since birth.
The choice of compartment was not something Steph was worrying about. She was confidently friendly to anyone, and even in a sea of unfamiliar people she was not panicked. However - something she hadn't considered was the number of continuing students swarming the train. Her sociability only stretched so far, and the older faces made her feel incredibly small and lost. Steph was plagued with an uncomfortable loneliness. Oh gosh, she thought to herself, inwardly angry at her own ineptitude. What have I gotten myself into? Maybe I should've burnt that letter, and I'd never had to leave Gateshead at all.
Steph frowned. No. She couldn't give up this quickly. If all the other First Years could brave their first Hogwarts Express ride, so could she. Steph too a deep breath, settling herself, and pushing away feelings of doubt. After all, she really only had to find a comparent for herself.
