𝓑ex sat perched on the edge of the sinks, swinging her legs back and forth absentmindedly as she waited for Helena. She kicked her shoes off, listening to their twin clunks reverberate through the room as they landed haphazardly on the tile, and assumed her preferred sitting position with her knees pulled up to her chest. It was always so cold in the lavatory, and Bex, loathsome to accidentally ruin one of her beloved hoodies or jumpers, had instead opted to strip off her school robes and the peach colored hoodie she'd been wearing underneath it, leaving them in a pile on the counter. While her t-shirt and jeans left her nose cold and teeth chattering, she'd already lost two of her favorite pieces of clothing this year, and refused to sacrifice another one. Hopefully Lena would get here quickly, so that she could return to the warm refuge of the Ravenclaw common room before she lost more than two, maybe three toes to the cold.

As she didn't have an owl of her own - having instead opted for a far cuter, but far less adept at mail delivery ferret who was sleeping peacefully back in her dorm - she'd instead had to resort to more childish means of notifying Helena of her intentions, and had thrown a balled-up note across the table aisles to the blonde girl at breakfast that morning, asking her to meet Bex in the lavatory at lunch time.

The idea that the Hufflepuff girl might not show up - perhaps having more important things to take care of on their first day back at Hogwarts - hadn't occurred to her. Bex's own interpretation of friendship included dropping your plans at a moment's notice at the behest of cryptic friend-summons', and she naively expected the same reciprocity from those close to her. Thankfully her skipping lunch wouldn't be in vain today, as soon after Helena joined her in the bathroom.

Truthfully she really wasn't in the mood to play catch-up at the moment, no matter how much she might enjoy the other girl's company, but as her plan had been set in motion before things had really gone south over the holidays, she was eager to see it through the the end, before she ended up doing something drastic like using her mum's supplies on herself, rather than Lena.

"'Kay." She said, gesturing to the three boxes behind her. "I was thinking about what you said in one of your letters, one of the ones you sent over break. About not knowing what to do, when your, uh, life falls apart? And I was six when my parents got divorced. So I don't remember a lot of what made me feel better, and I'm not really sure much of anything does. But, uh, maybe we can start by trying to build you up a new life? Like, one that your parents haven't touched yet. So that when their lives start crumbling, you don't end up crushed underneath them. Does that make sense?" She was pretty sure it made no sense at all, but she barreled on all the same.

She picked up one of the boxes, which was labeled "cinnamon" and prominently displayed a warm red-toned brown color. She looked at it critically for a few seconds, before handing it over to Helena for perusal. "I asked my mum what someone should do, if they wanted to fix their whole life. And she said that fixing your whole life is kinda drastic; instead you should just start with your hair, and see how you feel after that."

She handed the other two boxes over to Helena, one a black as dark as the night sky, and the other a deep, royal purple. She had been given four boxes in total from her mother, who, as a hairdresser, had easy access to "the good shit", but had gently explained to her that most of it wasn't meant to be used at home, and had instead picked her up some boxes from the store. As one of the boxes was a shade of blonde not dissimilar to Helena's current shade, though, she'd left that one up in her room. She'd additionally left the hair bleach behind, as Helena's hair was likely light enough to not require it.

"It's muggle hair dye." Bex elaborated, in case the other girl was confused. "The colors on the boxes are what color your hair will be. Well, close enough, at least. Do you like any of them?"
