Cat's Grace in Effect
29 January, 2024
1304, Lunchtime
He had been dreading this day for the two weeks he had spent planning for this very moment. He knew that it was going to come eventually, but he hadn't really wanted it to come so quickly even for all the preparations he had made for this very moment. Still, he was armed and prepared as best as he could have managed. He hopefully had everything that he needed in order to ensure that this mission was a success and that he escaped this place with his skin and organs intact. He had, to put it simply, come armed for war with potions, a knife, an invisibility cloak, and his animagus form on hand (which while he was still not fully able to ensure full clothing transmogrification, was confident that it would be enough to ensure an escape with his life).

It was a simple mission, an easy task, but it was a matter of one or two elements that the boy could not outright control. He had to be prepared for anything, literally anything, as he went to steal one small item and then make his exit. It was an old tune, shoplifting or outright stealing... and he was disgracefully good at it. He just hoped he would be good enough at it for this exploit.

Standing outside the Death Wing in the Corridor, the boy caught his breath one more time before setting his eyes in dedication to the task that he had before him. With a ripple of movement, silver shimmered and the boy's form vanished beneath the reflective invisibility cloak's thin veneer. Though he did not expect it to be foolproof, he expected it to do its job of at least breaking up his profile ever so slightly. Long enough to get close enough to strike, and then to get the job done that he needed to do. Sundays were slow days, after all, no victims to work with. This was the most opportune time. The only time... He was skipping lunch in the Great Hall for this unpleasant business.

With a final deep breath to slow his heartbeat... the boy entered.

Quickly but not too quickly he trotted across the room and towards the place where he was sure to have the best chances of finding his target: the desk of the Beast. Hands were not very careful. If he could make a mess of things, perhaps he could slow down the slaughter that was likely to ensue if he didn't make a mess. Scattering anything on the desk, rearranging files and papers, generally disorganizing anything that was once orderly. Anything, anything at all to be a nuisance and an obstacle to whatever nefarious plots were being brewed here. Inside unlocked cupboards, using his locksmith's knife on ones that were locked, and then using the unlocking charms (Aberto, even, if they were being finicky) to get into the ones magically sealed. He had to find what he was looking for, and he had to do it quickly before he was discovered or time ran out.

Ideally he would try to find a syringe, a hypodermic needle for drawing blood no matter the size: preferably the one that had the thick end as was traditional, but if he only found those muscle-deep vaccine needles he was more than sure he could make those work too. Once his item was in hand, he stuck it in his messenger bag with a large handful of those alcohol wipe things for sterilization as well as a rubber tourniquet, swept his entire arm across the main desk and anywhere else that had things standing on it in order to knock them to the floor (breaking potions and glass if they were there to be broken), and then very quickly and briskly covered himself with his invisibility cloak and made to leave.

He had finished what he said he would do, had done all he had to do and a little bit more for good measure, and now he wanted out of the Death Wing. There was no more reason to risk his life more than he already had.

29th January- Lunchtime

What a busy day! Between the danger that was sports and general chaos of being a teenager with a magical stick in hand, Dusana was, most days, run off her feet. There was always someone coming to her, crying out in pain or wanting help with something. Dusana would allow it, patching them up before sending them on their way. It wouldn't do to coddle them. Only the most serious of cases would require spending a night in the Hospital Wing.

On this particular day, Dusana had decided to give her assistants the break they so wonderfully needed. Lunch times, especially after a weekend when Duelling was on, were busy. Luckily she had a few moments to spare before any hurt or sick child came so she could tend to her plants. She only just pushed up from her desk to water the green hanging plants around the room when the great doors to the room opened. Tuning her head quickly and seeing nothing there, she went back to her plants. Except there was something there. A student. One rightfully so very much in the wrong. She stood silent as she watched the boy pilfering her cupboards, unlocking them through she had to admit, artful ways of both muggle and magical means. It wouldn't do though. Stealing at Hogwarts, especially her things, would not be allowed.

She watched curious as he grabbed something shiny before a few more medical implements went into a bag. Dusana pursed her lips and raised her eyebrows at the sheer audacity of this boy. Did he think she would allow him to steal her items? What a fool. Grasping her cherry wand in her left hand, she stepped to the door, her heels clacking against the stone floor and came to stand in the centre of them to block an escape. This troublemaker would give her the items back. Perhaps, she she stood there, this was the same trouble maker that had thrown the potion in her swimming lessons last month. It wouldn't surprise her if it was. Somehow , she was sure, this was all connected.

The boy must have missed the fact that she was even present, for as her turned to exit he swept his arms across her desk. Her tea set, full of fresh piping hot tea came crashing to the ground. Hopefully it burnt him. It would serve him right for stealing her things. Along with the tea set, her medical notes and potted plants also met the floor. Enough of this. Her area would not be desecrated like this!

Raising her arms, her wand at the ready, she motioned for the boy to stop. "Hold it, you little troublemaker. I've seen you, so we can stop pretending I'm stupid," she snapped. "Give back the items you pilfered. Then we can discuss your oh-so-lucky detention." The annoyance on her face was turning her expression into a sneer. She wasn't having any of this nonsense today.
As deemed by the dice gods, Dusana was not taking lunch this day and very much in fact inside the Hospital Wing when this occurred. You have been caught red-handed (roll based outcome), and will have to suffer detention with the Nurse. OOC, you are not in trouble, but purely narrative with your character. You are free to carry on this thread. I will owl you with further details.

It was true, Piérre did not have a Sixth Sense of any caliber. Instead, he had the Keen Eyes necessary to spot out very interesting and shiny things, or generally any items or potential locations of interest worth investigating. Perhaps the Mad Nurse also had a talent for sneakery similar to his own, or perhaps he had simply missed the Thing in his singleminded pursuit or general aesthetic of the Death Wing. Regardless, he wasn't going to let it distract him, and he would not have cared if anything was watching him... except that he was distracted at the very last moment.

And his response was instantaneous as whipped about at the voice and his emerald green eyes flared with a moment of fear before locking onto the Nurse and then narrowing into sharp bottleglass whose look could cut and would indeed pierce if they were anywhere near as effective as the broken weapon of violence used impromptuly by the desperate and caught off-guard. "You." He growled, his teeth immediately baring.

As if a switch had been flicked, the boy's fingers curled into the desk, his nails pressing into the soft wood and creating small indents where they wrapped. All muscles were tensed, every nerve wired for an action so far undecided. The pupils in their green shivered ever so slightly, a look of madness if ever there was one, a stare of an unhinged animal caught in the crosshairs and desperate for a moment, an opening, a chance. The stance of a desperate animal, a dangerous animal at that. "Don't come any closer. I'm not scared of hurting you for all the times you've hurt others. You'd deserve it too." He warned, shifting his position further down the desk, closer to the door just short of leaving the desk for cover. It was useful still, after all; for cover... for a weapon. Piérre could be notoriously resourceful if he so desired, and his ability to react and improvise was most certainly being tested now.

"These items are of no consequence to you. You'd much rather the files of your victims anyways, wouldn't you?" He tipped his head ever so slightly, feeling his heart beginning to race and his breathing increase. "I'll put them to good use. You won't miss one or three. Besides, you're funded by the magical world anyways: the Ministry of Magic pays you--all of you--to be here. They can replace these instruments easily enough. I bet you buy much more... distasteful instruments with their money too." Another quiet scoot towards an advantageous place to make a run for it, feeling his body coil and ready to act. His words dripped and seethed with an Italian lilt.

"Detention? Is that to be the facade and conditions around my mysterious disappearance like so many others? What'll you use my organs for? My blood? My body? I'd be curious if it weren't for the fact I know you'll kill me soonafter revealing such things to me." His eyes flared, and despite himself he spat on the ground as saliva suddenly filled his mouth unprompted. This ridiculous too-frequent for his comfort gleeking... Happening for over a year now...

He wiped his mouth, and in the same motion his bone white yew wand twirled in his fingers with only the kind of dexterity a duelist could have, angling it at the Thing and incanting with a rapid quip: "Regardless, I won't come. Not blindly into my death. Oculitumescere!"

He had to try to blind it. If he could blind it, he could evade any other blow or strike magical or mundane that came his way; just long enough to take to his heels and escape the Death Trap and the Death Wing that had been prepared for him here.

He would not die without a fight, no matter how futile or hopeless it seemed.

Was this child sane? He really didn't look like it to Dusana. Flipping her carefully constructed notes around the room, brandishing his hands in a threatening manner, and oh was that his wand pointed her way. What a great turn of events this day was having. His anger wasn't something she had truly considered. Usually the thought of staff met a wall of respect, and if not, some sass would put a wayward student back into place. But this one, talking of blood and bone, and organs? Dusana wasn't sure what to do.

She took a step, feeling her back meet the cool bumpy tactile of the Hospital Wing Doors, the door pushing into her back and sticking there with the beads of sweat dripping down her back. Licking her lips, she started to raise her wand and thought better of it. She could body bind the student. Would serve him right to be put in a time out for his behaviour. But that wouldn't do. He'd have more reason then to shout she was crazy. But was it really her he was aiming for? Again this Finley was mentioned. It just further proved to her that this was the student who had attacked her last month. If she could just work out who the heck Finley was and why he was so important to this blasted, no good student she'd be fine.

As she opened her mouth to speak after his little tirade, all she could see was his wand right at her before nothing. A few expletives left her mouth. Right now she didn't care that swearing in front of a student was frowned upon. This little imp had stolen her things and outright attacked her. All for standing in her own area and watering a few plants. What. An. Asshole.

She stumbled away from the door, maintaining a grip on her wand. Damn the stupid boy for doing this. She hissed out to him, making it clear that she was not happy and would do everything in her power to right this wrong. "Look at you, being so brave to blind a staff member after your little tantrum. You'll be reported to your Head of House for this. Mark my words little Gryffindor." With her now not blocking the door fully, she was sure he'd make a plan of escape. Let him. She'd take inventory of her desk and tell Galahad Browne. Blinded how she was, she'd also ask Asclepius later to find the boy. He had a great sense of smell and was quite adept at sneaking around unnoticed. A follow up meeting was definitely in order.

Mad nurse, mad nurse, mad nurse! Piérre's breath continued to catch as the spell flew true and struck It right in the face. Hastily bagging the rest of his ill-gotten goods, the boy looked about him wildly in anticipation of enemies closing in, the things that wished to hurt him or to cripple him for now. Baited breath, frightened nature... it was in his nature to run away, to hide, and to elude and escape. It was all he was good at, all that he was good for. Run, you coward, and leave those behind to suffer and confront the flame.

At least his facade of menace seemed to be shying off the worst of an outright blow; was he actually succeeding in breaking down the lies of the narrative that was Finlay's former comfort? Was he causing the Nurse to doubt itself as it tried to rationalize the fact that one of its victims had discovered and had dismantled the ploy it had worked so hard to build up and sustain for so many years?

His prowess as a duelist did come in handy, as even as the Nurse opened its mouth to possibly cast a dark curse upon him that would potentially wrack him with immeasurable pain or perhaps leave him helpless to whatever twisted experimentations was forefront and paramount in its mind, the blinding curse closed out all light and made it impossible for it to see him. Close the messenger bag, try to figure out if there was anything that he had to do before leaving.... no.

He had everything he needed, and he instead ran as fast as his Hermes heels would take him as the vows of the Nurse behind him echoed into the air. Stopping as it dared to invoke 'his house', Piérre turned back when he had reached the door and bared his teeth in fury as his eyes gleamed with rage. "Bravery has nothing to do with it. I spit on baseless bravery and empty boldness accompanied by stolen or idiotic valor without purpose." A sneer crossed his features as he snapped back. The very thought of being insulted in such a way made his blood boil as bile rose in his throat. "How dare you presume me to be brave or chivalrous based on the color of the outfit I wore here alone; my attempts to survive and not to save those who don't want to be saved. Perhaps I am not a Gryffindor after all; whatever a 'Gryffindor' is supposed to be." A sharp bark of a laugh left his lips without his meaning it. "I belong to no house, and woe to those who think I can be confined to one in such a way; the first and only one who proved the blasted Hat wrong."

Letting his words float in the air, he left.

If the Nurse's snake did try to go after him, it would find Piérre crouched down by a statue in a little crevasse, inspecting the needle briefly before putting it away and then burying his face in his arms. Every now and again he boxed his own ears, seemingly in frustration or perhaps mild guilt. "They don't believe me... I'm the crazy one. Mio Dio, ti prego... Per loro sono io il pazzo... My God, please... To them I'm the crazy one..." Fingers ran wildly through his hair, grooming in a stressed-out way. "Continuano a sparire, ed è tutta colpa tua, idiota! Hai fatto questo a tutti! Sei pazzo! Cosa pensi di poter fare?! Non puoi fare niente! Non puoi fare niente di giusto e hai perso tutti... They keep vanishing, and it's all your fault you idiot! You did this to everyone! You are mad! What do you think you can do?! You can't do anything! You can't do anything right, and you've lost everyone..."

He laughed brightly in a strained way, a radiant smile crossing his features as he raised his eyes to the ceiling as if he could look beyond it and into the heavens above it. "Cos'e ' un altro ragazzo scomparso nel grande schema? Un ragazzo che sarebbe stato rapidamente dimenticato da tutti; la cui scomparsa sarebbe stata forse una causa per invocare l'azione più di qualsiasi altra cosa abbia fatto mentre era ancora sotto gli occhi del pubblico? What's one more missing boy in the grand scheme? A boy that would be quickly forgotten by all; whose disappearance would possibly be a cause of invoking action moreso than anything that he did while he was still in the public eye?"

Green eyes softened in thought, in consideration of such a thing. "To be worth more dead or missing than alive... If it weren't for the fact that we have work to do."

So saying, he stood and briskly made away; back to the only common room he could enter without getting into severe trouble based solely off of the constrictive human biases that had judged him when he had been a child. Biases which now dared to continually use their ghostly hands to manipulate a path, but did not know what the boy was capable of. Not yet.

Perhaps never.

Occasional patrolling was a thing Meenauh practised. In general, it wasn't exactly patrolling — she was just walking around the castle after her meals, making sure everything was in order. This one time, she wanted to drop her prefectness and just walk around mindlessly.

Yeah, sure.

As she was passing by the Hospital Wing, she heard some noise coming from there and stood still for another couple of seconds. Not by the doors, of course, she knew better. She hid behind a nearby column, and just in time when the door burst open to free no other than the naughty boy, Pierre. The one who could afford himself cuss at girls and open his mouth to allow forbidden speech directed at his opponents. And hissing at his own teammates. Meenauh instinctively shook her head, recalling the incident. But why the hell the boy went to the Hospital Wing so early in the day? Did he miss the meal?

Madame Sabo's voice was heard before, so the boy wasn't allowed alone there, disregarding whatever trickstery he might have been planned to perform. She stepped out from where she was enclosing herself from direct view, but the boy was nowhere around any more. So she entered the Hospital Wing, and for Merlin's sake, the boy would be dead if she'd get there just a few seconds earlier, which she should have done.

"Oh my... Madame Sabo," her eyes widened, but being a duellist, she knew the effects. She rushed towards and went over her eyes with her palm (Casting Reparifors), "I am so sorry," she was for some reason, probably because her 'responsible self' was popping up again in such situations. She could've entered earlier, right? Could she prevent? Did it matter if it happened anyway?

If Dusana is not standing at this moment, she'd help her stand up.

"Are you okay? What had happened? Did he attack you?" she lost her usual control and spat out her questions in a burst. Because thinking that a student had attacked staff with a curse was nowhere near possible to go through her Overton window. So her mind had to ask the obvious questions to keep the Overton window as narrow as it was in this case.

She heard the doors opening and closing, cursing herself at this moment. Stupid, idiotic boy! Did he think she would take this lightly? She was sure he was gone, but honestly she didn't care. It was more the fact that she was blinded that was the issue. Just as she raised her wand to cast a healing spell, the whooshing sound of the doors opening and closing once again sounded. She snarled at the intruder. "If you're a patient, you better be bloody or dying. Find yourself a bed. I'm a little busy at present."

Her mentor, Herr Scholz, would be disappointed in her bedside manner. It doesn't matter what they do to you Dusana, as long as you don't lash out. Treat them with kindness. You are here to heal. Screw that. Except...

It seemed kindness was being afforded to her. Another student, older by the sound of it. The empathy from the student stopped her tongue from lashing out again. Which was lucky because one blink and she was able to see again. The Nurse raised her eyes at the definitely older student now that she could see again. "Powerful skills you have there. Thank you." She nodded in reply to the girls questions, "Yes, I was attacked evidently. As I stopped the foul, little-" she stopped herself before she continued on her tirade. It wouldn't do to speak harshly, no matter how much some children deserved it. "You wouldn't happen to know who he was?" She turned at the last second, gathering her things away. "I know he is a member of Gryffindor house." She smiled sweetly. "Would you like to take a visit with me to the Head of Houses office? I'm sure he would love to hear about this."
Dusana leaves with Meenauh if they agree to the Gryffindor Head of Houses office.

The quick storytelling from Madame Sabo revealed everything she wanted to hear. Freaking Pierre... Whatever he had been up to until now, it was beyond every limit. At this pace... No, no damn pace, it was already beyond every red line there could've possibly been. They allowed him to participate in the last Duelling stage, even after his damn business in the Potions storeroom, and yet he was going further — attacking staff. Unacceptable.

She thought that he can't keep being on the team with this set of actions, with this behaviour he chose. She'd have a talk with Galton, and they need to confront him. After the talk to Professor Browne, of course.

"Pierre, Madame Sabo, Pierre Marchonne," she spat it out, "A member of Gryffindor house, correct. I have just seen him leaving when I was patrolling around, and, boy, he is in big trouble," she was shaking her head furiously as she was finishing her line.

She just silently nodded at the offer to visit Professor Browne, because, yes, this was the only option. They did it last time, and this was the second (or maybe the third) serious offence, and they just can't keep going with that further. Punishment was on the way.

And no one knew just yet that the punishment might come in unexpected ways.
