Katie realized, while admiring the tree, that she would have a fun time attempting to climb it. She was still in her school uniform, so she was still in a skirt. For that matter, her normal attire around the castle almost always included a skirt, anyway. Maybe tree climbing was out of the question, at least until she could verify that she was alone. She didn’t particularly want any mishaps or creeps, despite the fact that she enjoyed tree climbing. As much as she prized her appearance, she wasn’t against doing physical activities.

Katie had been too busy admiring the trees to notice that a girl walked up to her, another first year. Her cheeks flushed, as she heard the girl talk to her, nearly jumping from the surprise. She shyly turned to face the girl. Despite how shy she was, she wasn’t rude. At least, her intention was not to be rude. She had no idea what the other students actually thought about her. “Hi,” she responded back, just as shyly. She nervously held her hands in front of her, not knowing what to do with them. “I’m Kaitlyn or Katie. I don’t mind which one you use. It’s nice to meet you, Genevieve,” she responded, giving a small smile.

While still flushing, Katie giggled quietly. “Your nicknames sound so cool,” she admitted with a small smile. “But, if you insist, I’ll call you Genny,” she continued. She could tell that Genny was shy, as well. It made her feel a little less embarrassed and anxious. After all, they both knew what it meant to be shy and, sadly, how it impacted their ability (or inability) to make friends. And yet, she found it rather difficult to change by herself.

Katie looked at the trees, her cheeks flushing again. Did she really look that weird near these trees? “Um, I was thinking about climbing them,” she admitted, quietly. “I would’ve by now, but I then got self-conscious since I’m wearing a skirt,” she gestured to her school uniform. She never realized just how weird that sounded until she said it out loud. She just had to hope that Genny did not think she was too weird. She really needed to make some friends. If she really wanted to climb the tree, she shouldn’t have cared and just climbed up.

At Genny’s statement, Katie’s smile grew a little. “That sounds so sweet and beautiful! Did you write that?” she asked, in awe.

Katie could not help but to giggle at Genny’s exclamation. Apparently, Genny wasn’t feeling as shy, as well. Maybe it was from knowing that both of them already were quiet to begin with? Katie was not a big fan of loudness, as it was. “Okay, okay, I’ll climb it. If you’re curious, I was going to climb it right before you came over. I’m happy that you did, however,” she smiled.

“Ah, okay! It was a lovely saying that captures the essence of nature,” Katie remarked. While she hadn’t been sorted into Hufflepuff, she respected the nature around them. She dropped her bag to the ground and nodded. “Okay,” she giggled. She jumped up, grabbing a hold of a lower branch, easily pulling herself up, but still hitting against the trunk of the tree. She kept pulling herself up each branch until she reached the canopy above them. Her legs were all scratched up, but she paid no mind to them, knowing the scratches would heal with time. Or magic, if she was really that afraid of them. “It’s beautiful up here,” she said, quietly, looking around in awe. She turned to Genny. “Thanks for encouraging me to come up here.”

Genevieve smiled as Katie dropped her bag to the ground. It thudded onto the grass and fell over on it's side. She was climbing the tree, pulling herself up pretty fast.

"Wow, wait for me!" Genevieve laughed as she hauled herself up to one of the lower branches. She climbed onto another branch, feeling the rough bark between her hands, then sat there and rested for a moment, her legs swinging off the side of the branch. Her robes were all askew, so she adjusted them, pulling them back over her shoulders.

Grabbing the trunk with both hands, she slowly escalated to the canopy, enjoying the smell of the leaves and tree sap. It was fresh, and crisp. This tree was one of the last few around the ground that still had some green leaves - the last glimpse of summer before autumn takes over. Finally, she swung herself up to one of the top branches, where Katie was sitting. "That was so fun!" Genevieve exclaimed as she looked down at the view of the grounds from the top of the tree. The wind was blowing, even stronger at this height. It played with Genevieve's hair, tossing it and throwing it everywhere. She closed her eyes as she felt the crisp breeze on her face.

While she may not look like it immediately, Kaitlyn was athletic. Between dancing, running, and yoga, she was constantly moving her body all the time. So, the climb up the tree didn’t leave her breathless at all. Just happy to be up in the tree, with hopefully a new friend coming up after her. It felt nice, in her opinion. It had been a while since she was able to climb a tree. At St. Ann’s, not too many of the students climbed trees for some reason, even the more athletic girls. So, if she wanted to go tree climbing, it would have been by herself. While she didn’t mind doing things alone, she vastly preferred other people’s company, even just so they talked to each other afterward.

Kaitlyn smiled, as she waited for Genny. She didn’t watch to make sure that Genny didn’t feel rushed into climbing. Hoping to make a friend, she didn’t want to start off on the wrong foot. Her smile grew, as Genny came up to her branch. She giggled at Genny’s statement. “I completely agree,” she replied. She could feel the breeze tug at her ponytail. “I’ve missed doing this. The girls at the muggle school I went to before coming here weren’t big tree climbers. So, if I wanted to do this, I’d be by myself,” she shrugged. “Do you do this a lot?” She asked.

Genevieve tilted her head at Katie's statement. "Aww. Sorry! I actually haven't climbed a tree in a looooong time," she said, grabbing the rough bark of the branch she was sitting on. "Not since I was little." Closing her eyes again, she leaned up towards the sky, feeling the sun warm her face.

The two girls sat like that for a while, just enjoying the nature. Students were walking around on the grounds below, sometimes looking up to see the girls in the tree. One boy in particular gave them a very odd look as he walked by. Genevive giggled at this, and waved. "Ahh..." she said.

Then, with a flash, she remembered all the homework awaiting her in the common room. "Oh no," she groaned. "Katie, I'm sorry, but I might have to go," she said, "I've got piles of work to do before tomorrow," she turned apologetically to the girl. "It was really nice meeting you, though, we should hang out again sometime soon!" Reaching to give Katie a quick hug, Genevieve started making her way back down to the ground, careful not to scrape herself anymore than she already had. Once on the grass once more, she waved goodbye to Katie and scampered off, sad that this fun time had to end.
