Saying Goodbye
Charlotte stared cautiously at the wall between platforms nine and ten. She had been informed that she only had to walk through the wall, but did not trust it. It seemed too much like something she would have read in one of her fantasy books to be accurate. In fact, she still struggled to believe that she had magical powers.
Her older brother approached the wall and motioned towards it, "What are you waiting for?" She rolled her eyes at his joking tone, pressed her palm against the wall, and then gently pressed. She stared in shock as her hand disappeared and quickly stepped through with her trunk. Her eyes widened as she looked around. There were kids and magical creatures everywhere. Most of the pets were in cages, but several owls flew around in the smoke from the train. A group of kids nearby were admiring a weird broom. Someone put their hand on her shoulder, and she forced her eyes from the platform to her father. He had a bright facial expression, although he did appear slightly shocked by all the owls. Next to him, her brother seemed to be trying to hide his shock, and her mother looked like she was about to cry.
Her father cleared his throat and muttered, "You will have to get on the train soon. You only have three minutes." He leaned over and hugged her. A second later, the rest of the family joined the hug. After a moment, Charlotte stepped away, and her mother said, "Have a good year and make friends. We will make sure to find a way to talk to you!" Her brother ruffled her hair, and she shuffled forward through the crowd towards the train.
