29th August 2005
Finally she'd been able to slip her mothers watchful gaze and enter the squawking abode that was the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley. She'd carefully planned this outing all Summer. Meticulous, right down to crossing her t's and dotting her i's. She'd decided to come out on a day where her would be distracted- some new book signing in one of the shops. Louise had waved her blonde haired daughter away, trusting the conscientious girl to be fine in Diagon Alley while the line in the bookshop got longer and longer. And so Dusana, are making sure the coast was clear with a few stray glances around her entered into the shop covered with feathers and fur everywhere.
It was pivotal to the young fourteen year olds life that her mother never found out she was here. Question after question would arise, and Dusana wouldn't be able to lie. Not when her mother could ferret information out better than a hit-wizard. As she walked further into the shop, her chest became lighter, the heavy anchor that she felt crushing her chest lifting as she came to the front counter and the old woman peering down at her.
Clearing her throat, she glanced sheepishly around. She wasn't one to usually show her nervousness, composure and confidence drilled into her from a young age. But standing here in the shop with the animals screeching around her, the foreign smells of fur and food, make her stomach turn in knots. She'd never done something like this but it was necessary.
Reaching into her velvet green robes, she pulled out what looked to be a tiny worm. Or she assumed the lady thought it was a worm. It was a long thin noodle, only about 40cm in length. It was a baby, one that she'd found in her mothers garden a few weeks ago. She'd been shocked when the snake had decided to stay with her. And so now she was here, getting supplies for new pet.
Placing her new pet on the counter, Dusana bit her lip and then cleared her throat. Pushing her shoulders back, she mustered all the confidence that she could. "Hello. I need some supplies for my snake please." The woman, with what seemed to have a twinkle in her eye at the young girl acting so mature, nodded and replied sagely, "Of course I can get you a few things. A tank for one, rodents..." The lady continued, prattling off a number of things that the girl would need. Dusana nodded to them all, allowing the things to be sent off to her mothers house. She'd make sure somehow that the items would be hidden from her mother when she got home. Smiling gratefully as the items were signed for, she paid the lady, gathered her items, and walked back to the bookshop. What a productive afternoon!
