A bell chimed as Landon pushed open the door to the Magical Menagerie and Landon smiled as he heard the sounds of animals around him. He could see several different types of animals, but he wasn't there to pick out one for himself. His parents had already taken him to the Magical Menagerie earlier during winter break. In fact, they had let him choose a pet for his Christmas present. Sure, they had gotten him other things that Landon had been excited about, but this year, his favorite present was definitely his Bewitched Midnight Stalker cat, who he had chosen to name Merlin.

Landon had been asking for a cat for a while, but he had worried that having a cat would be impractical. Logically it would make more sense to get an owl, because they could deliver letters, but Landon just... he really wanted a cat. He wanted a companion that could curl up in bed with him and that he could pet. Owls were cool too, but he just needed a soft companion. So when Landon's parents had brought him a small basket, holding a little black kitten with big blue-green eyes, Landon melted. His parents had explained that the kitten was old enough to be separated from his mother, but his eyes were still a little blue instead of the green that they would become as he aged. The kitten had pushed its paws out in front of himself as he stretched before standing up in the basket.

Landon got a little emotional as he looked at the kitten, and he scooped him up into his arms and pet him gently. He had looked at his parents and thanked them. The kitten had meowed softly and Landon had looked down at him. He decided right there that he was going to name the cat Merlin. Why the name Merlin? Merlin was a famous wizard from history, which tied two of Landon's favorite things together: history and magic.

Anyway, now Landon was at the Magical Menagerie, making a quick stop to pick up pet supplies. His parents had gotten him enough to get through the rest of break, but Landon knew that he would need supplies to take care of the cat during term too. He wasn't going to leave Merlin behind at home now that he had him. Landon was too fond of the kitten. Merlin was curious and cuddly, talkative, and playful. Landon loved him so much already and he couldn't wait to show him to his friends at the school.

Landon greeted the storeowners with a friendly smile and paid for his supplies. He had chosen a soft blue pet bed for Merlin, though he hoped that Merlin would prefer to spend the time sharing Landon's bed instead of sleeping all alone. He had also gotten Merlin some food and other things that he would need to survive. Landon hoped that Merlin would get along with all of the other cats in his group of friends.
