She woke up super early to get ready, it would take longer because that year she would (like many other students) go to class in costume as there was a masquerade contest in which Mari had also participated.
Her outfit was... how to say... different! But Mari loved it from the first time she saw it in the store.
She hurried to go have breakfast at the earliest time (7am) and stopped several times on the way because Hogwarts was already special, but Halloween was even more so, so she arrived a little later than expected. When she finished she decided to go straight to the classroom, because at that moment everyone, or rather the majority, was getting ready to have breakfast.
She arrives and sits down, arranging her costume and placing things on the table, lightly practicing what she would learn in class until she is surprised by someone entering the room, Mari looks to see who that person would be.

Linda knew that Halloween was coming and so she decided to use it as distraction. She thought about the costume and started to prepare it the previous day. After finishing it, she went to sleep so she could wake up earlier. She knew about masquerade but wasn't going to go there. She just wanted to not have to answer any questions like why she didn't prepare for Halloween.
Her costume wasn't very creative and neither it was anything that was looking like actual Halloween costume. Perhaps next year she would do a better job. Hopefully, she wouldn't need to face losing another friend. With these thoughts Linda finally fell asleep.
After waking up Linda prepared herself quickly, took costume and all the things she'll need for lessons and went out to have a breakfast. With getting done with it she decided to go straight to the classroom.
After coming in the classroom Linda looked at the girl who happened to be looking at her at that moment. Her outfit was... Exactly great for Halloween. While Linda's wasn't creative at all. You have a nice Halloween costume. Not knowing what to say else, Linda came closer to the girl. Do you mind if I sit with you?

Mari watched the girl approaching, the girl was also dressed up like Mari, and the first thing that caught her eye was not even the costume, but the boots, the girl's shoes matched the costume very well and were very beautiful, she didn't know her, Mari could only see from a distance that the girl had blood red hair, and lighter skin than Mari's.
” I know, thanks! I've actually been “dating” this costume since the first time I saw it, I had to take it today!" Mari says, thanking the girl ” Just like yours, not just the costume, but the accessories too!" Said the sonserina, looking at the rest of the accessories, necklace, earrings... they went well with the costume, Mari on the other hand didn't go with many accessories, she went with her usual black boots, some black moon-shaped earrings, and her family necklace.
” Sure, have a seat!” Mari says, moving to the side so that the girl can sit down, ” Hmm, nice to meet you, Mari, Mari Alves, I don't think we've crossed paths here before.” Mari says (slightly more humorously than usual, because of the occasion in question,) holding out her hand to the girl, the girl being Mari's age perhaps, a year older, no, Mari's age, but Mari had never really seen her around the school

Linda smiled. This is definitely more than just a costume. I've fell in love with mine. As she took Mari's hand shortly before letting it go, she sat close to the girl.
I'm Linda Ramirez. Nice to meet you too. I don't think so or at least we never interacted before. She responded to Mari. Halloween was something she didn't really celebrate before, but decided to try it this year.
It's fascinating to sit in costume here. Did you see many wearing them today? I'd expect to see more, but probably I just didn't see all. She smiled thinking about how fun it should be.
Halloween in Hogwarts. Linda never thought she'd ever celebrate it especially here. This place was full of unexpected surprises and she no longer knew what to expect else. Distracting from her thoughts, she took a moment to look around her and remember all decorations she saw on her way here. Those seemed to look nice and just enough, with nothing standing out or been extra.
Looking back at Mari she tilted her head a bit. What do you plan to do after lesson? I doubt you just decided to sit in costume on lessons without any other plans. She chuckled. Why would she ask this question when she was planning exactly this: just sitting on lessons and then nothing that she planned.

Mari didn't let her smile slip the second Linda talked about Mari's plans, even though Linda seemed to like Halloween, Mari didn't want to spoil it by talking too much, she, and some other students had planned a party, that if we were discovered there would be problems, Mari would go, obviously, but she didn't know who else would be there, so she preferred, at least for now, not to share it with Linda.

Linda was amazed that the meaning of her name was like this. She wasn't particular interested in such things, but it was quite fascinating to discover it now from Mari. Ah it sounds fascinating, thank you for sharing this.
As she thought about next words, she realized it could be the reason. Not everyone would be wearing their costumes whole day, especially if it required some preparation. Thinking once again about decorations, she agreed with Mari. It was amazing how much different Hogwarts was at this time of the year.
I don't know yet. But I wasn't going to go to contest, at least not as participant. Probably will meet some friends and spend time with them. She smiled a little. What a weird thing to say. She was supposed to go to some party or to this contest, but instead her plans were as simple as spending the rest of the day in her dorm room or to actually find some of her friends and try to spend time with them.
Halloween was a nice time. Decorations and food were especially great this day and she knew it was a fun time with a lot of different ways of spending it. But nothing from it was interesting for her today. Perhaps it could change later, she didn't know.

Mari listened attentively to Linda saying that she wasn't going to the contest. Mari was trying to find out whether or not Linda knew about the party that night, and apparently she either didn't or preferred not to share it with Mari, but Linda seemed a little discouraged that she had no plans for the day, which was a shame for her, Mari was incapable of wasting an occasion like this.
“So... no clear plans for today, huh?” decided to confirm Mari, as she peeked around the corner to see if anyone had entered the room unnoticed. She hesitated for a moment, trying to choose the right words. understand that everyone has their own way of enjoying things, but this is a unique opportunity. There's so much going on at school... I mean, not just at school, of course... but you know best." Mari added, realizing that she was about to talk about the party, but reversing the situation.
Mari looked again at the Halloween decorations scattered around the room, where cobwebs hung from the ceiling and illuminated pumpkins flickered on the tables. The smell of sweets and spices hung in the air, creating a melancholy yet cozy atmosphere.
Mari was inclined to tell Linda about the party... also... what had gone wrong?

No plans rather than spending rest of the day in my room. Linda chuckled. Could it be named as plans? Certainly no. I agree. There's a lot going on and especially today since it's Halloween. Contest, I am quite sure there's some party as well, but I don't seem to be interested in any of them this time.
She smiled, trying to hide her sadness behind the smile until she got herself back out of her thoughts. There's a lot going on and she wasn't sure how she actually felt. In fact, she wasn't sure why she even was wearing a costume. Maybe she wanted to distract from the thoughts. Maybe it was more so no one would ask why she's not having a costume in this day.
Thinking about Halloween, she once again focused on decorations. Those were always nice in Hogwarts. Filling what felt like whole Hogwarts, it added to the atmosphere and felt incredibly beautiful. Just like Halloween was supposed to be. And she certainly wasn't supposed to spend it alone in the room. Thinking about it again, she glanced at Mari. Well, maybe I will meet some friends and spend time with them. After all it's Halloween and it would be fun to spend it with them. She smiled, this time sincerely.

Mari looked at Linda for a moment, maintaining her characteristic neutral expression. Even with the distance she usually kept from people, it was hard to ignore Linda's clearly fake smile. She sighed slightly, crossing her arms in a relaxed but attentive manner.
“Maybe spending the day in your room isn't so bad,” she commented, her tone cold but not rude. [Maybe Linda really did have a reason not to go.
She looked away from the Halloween decorations that filled the hallway. The twinkling lights, the enchanted pumpkins with their sometimes funny, sometimes scary expressions. Everything seemed so carefully planned that it was almost impossible not to get lost in the details.
After a few seconds of silence, Mari decided it might be better to say something more.
"There's a... thing“, she began, without looking directly at Linda.”Some students are planning a party at midnight. Nothing official, of course.
She paused for a long moment, carefully assessing what had happened to Linda, before continuing.
” Not everyone knows, and it's best to keep it that way. It wouldn't be any fun if someone decided to tell the teachers." Mari finally met Linda's eyes, her expression remaining neutral, but there was a hint of something that could be curiosity.
” Anyway, I guess you'll decide later whether it's worth going or not." Her voice became a little lighter. I'm not exactly the type who likes crowds, but it could be an interesting distraction.
After a few seconds of silence, Mari spoke again"Anyway, it's just an idea. Do what you want with it." And with one last look, Mari shrugged again, not showing much importance as class time approached

Coincidentally on Halloween
Linda could feel that her smile was too fake. Even to herself, so clearly Mari could see through it too, right? Linda didn't know but guessed it could be quite possible. Or maybe I should really avoid staying alone in the room. She said quietly, abandoning her failed attempt to smile. She didn't share it with anyone yet. Not even with her besties. Linda needed time to process it all and later she would collect herself again and be happy. She believed she could do it.
She listened to Mari talking about a party and for a second she thought it could be a better way to spend today. Don't worry, I won't tell them. But probably it could be nice to go. For a moment she had something resembling curiosity and enthusiasm in her eyes. Her smile finally coming as a true one, even if not the happiest ever.
Staying alone would only make her keep thinking and grieving. Not the best thing to do when she could spend it with friends or somewhere else. Perhaps she had to really consider it more.
Thank you. She replied quietly as class time was approaching. Linda had to focus on the lesson and stop thinking for a moment. It would do nothing good to her spending more time thinking. She could think about party after class. She thought it wouldn't be hard to find the place if she decided to go.
