❂《 ⌜ November 4, 2023 ▎ After the race ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔In the end, she couldn't cross that line. It was painful. Painful than the bruises and scratches that she received from that race. She wants to scream the moment she wakes up, get that frustration out of her system but considering where she is, she needs to stay calm.
How'd she get here, that she doesn't know. All she could remember was the towering figure of the trees that she was fast approaching, the pain from the rocks thrown at her from who knows where as the bleeding scratches that tore through her clothes from thorny vines. There was nothing but pain that came after, even now. While physically, she is feeling a lot better than when she was racing, inside, she was hurting. Raizel can be competitive and she can accept losses but not one after another. Her practice duels, heck, she couldn't remember the times she had actually performed well. She could feel her frustration building up. If she loses tomorrow's official duel, she's going to break. The Gryffindor is close to that point.
"Get it together." Raizel muttered to give herself encouragement, give her pathetic self another push to start once more but her body was starting to feel heavier than before, the shackles of failure slowly wrapping itself around her crumbling figure. It was suffocating. She was sinking down into the abyss of despair with only a small guiding light left to pull her up.
For how long will that light last? How long can it keep the darkness away? How long can the fire within her keep on burning?

Flickering Flame

How time flew. One minute it was September, being all excited to join the league of healing interns with Nurse Featherstone and now, it was a crisp Autumn day in November. Bea had been doing this intern thing for a while now, helping wrap bandages and giving sips of potions under the watchful eye of the assistants and Nurse Emery. None of the patients Bea had really, truly known. Except for today. When Raizel entered through the doors.
A shattered gasp had left her lips as the younger girl was brought into the Hospital Wing, the potion she had been holding shattering to the floor. Bruises marred her skin, with sharp nicks everywhere. Was that a twig in her hair? What- what had her little mischief maker been doing? The third years eyes filled with tears at the memory. Even now, as Raizel lay there, at least conscious this time, Bea couldn't help but feel her heart squeezing in a painful vice.
A broom race Bea had heard. But Raizel wasn't a broom racer. She was a duellist through and through. Bea could count on both hands the amount of times she had heard through the grapevine that Raizel was duelling someone. Why, oh why had she even gone on one of those stupid flying contraptions?! Now that the younger girl was awake, Bea sought answers.
Ambling over to Rai, she set down a cup of water and a cookie from the Nurses desk stash on the nightstand next to Raizels bed. The cookies were free from what Bea knew and it wouldn't hurt that Rai had one. A little comfort never hurt nobody. Taking an empty chair, Bea sat down, staring morrsefully at her troublemaker. Balling her fists, Bea tipped her head back to blink the tears away before looking at Rai properly. Bruises, pain, probably a few broken bones. All in the name of glory. "What happened Rai?" she whispered softly.

With some level of difficulty, she'd managed to get Raizel into the hospital wing. While she would've stayed to hear the Gryffindor's condition, Alyssea had to return the broom she was riding on (poor old Firebolt, at least it still looked decent) along with her own Nimbus and Comet that Helena and Ulysses had been riding on. Not only that, a brawl almost broke out after the race ended. Not exactly the first race Alyssea was expecting but interesting to say the least.november 4th 2023; interacting with @Raizel Voltrouz and @Beatrice Langstreth
Now that she had settled those, though, she wasted no time running to the Hospital Wing. There were a few casualties on her track but they were more minor than the extent Raizel had put herself through. Hitting trees, brushing through thorns, getting knocked off by the winds. Guess she should stick to duelling, huh?
When Alyssea arrived, there was somebody already at Raizel's bedside. Slowly, she tip-toed over to the bed and made no move to make herself known. She took a second to look around. There was a cup of water and a cookie beside the bed, two things Alyssea agreed Raizel needed. For a second, the water looked out of place; she expected milk and a cookie, but they were still a month out from Christmas.
After a bit of standing, Alyssea cleared her throat. "Hi. I hope I'm not interrupting. I just wanted to see Rai after my broom race." Alyssea scratched at her neck awkwardly. "She hit a bunch of trees, thorns, got knocked off her broom, got caught in vines... It was pretty rough."
“I hope she'll be a fool — that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

❂《 ⌜ November 4, 2023 ▎ After the race ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Why was she in that race again? Surely the reason wasn't just as simple as wanting to see if she could reach the finish line. No, it was the fact that she needed a break from duelling, from her bad performances and broom racing was the first to come to mind. Thrilling and it could take her mind off of things. She wanted to see if she's capable of accomplishing something. The results, however, proved that even in Broom Racing, she wasn't built for success. Ah, the lack of people from that race in the Hospital Wing, from what she could see at least, was enough to say that it was only her that got hurt this bad. It was disappointing, pathetic. While she could make the excuse that she was a duellist, not a broom racer, she won't.
Who knew her craving for success was this bad, to the point that she was willing to achieve it somewhere when she should be focusing on duelling. Her thoughts were disrupted upon the arrival of someone she knew, someone that she had caused trouble to but also, someone that had shown great care during her time here despite the fact that she was nothing but a troublemaker. She wasn't expecting to see Beatrice Langstreth here though. Why would she be here? Then again, there are students helping out the nurse so that's probably why.
The moment Bea sat by the bedside, she was ready to show that usual smile, the one that she wears to keep her friends from worrying but when she saw her, she couldn't. Perhaps it was guilt as the worried look on the older student met her gaze or the tone of her voice when she asked a question that left the Gryffindor thinking.
What happened indeed.
"I-" there was a pause as Raizel tried to find the words to say. "Ahahaha, I got too carried away in searching for things to do." She answered with a slight grin on her face. While she might still feel some pain here and there, she is trying her best not to show it. No, she shouldn't make people worry more about her.
Soon, another one joined. Hufflepuff girl, Alyssea Brown, the one who hosted that race and a good friend. She visibly winced at the mention of what got her during the race and that sure was a lot now that she has time to think about it. Trees, falling off, thorns, no wonder she feels so sore during the whole thing and now. "Ooh, right, guess those happened as well."

date. [ 11/04/23 ]—— word count. [ 361 ] —————— The longest two hours of his life passed as Ulysses teetered between absolute disgust for the other team that through rocks and devilishly dismantled his team one by one and embarrassment that he was mediocore at flying when he thought he'd be a freaking natural. After returning his borrowed broom to the Hufflepuff commentator, the first year stormed off to his room while it seemed like one of his teammates was mouthing off to one of the rivaling team's members. Ulysses couldn't help but feel sick at his performance, like a kicked dog stuck in limbo at the addition of obstacles and spellcasting (something he still hadn't gotten the hang of quite yet). With a heavy sigh, the child let the anger consume him to tears as it felt like his entire world had been crumbling right in front of his eyes.
Luckily for Uly, he hadn't eaten all day due to the nerves and the urge overpowered how miserable he was feeling. Instead of sulking in the Great Hall, the Slytherin tossed a few of the pastries or slices of bread into a knapsack and he decidingly headed up to the Hospital Wing. There was a teammate of his who ended up getting knocked out from Gryffindor, and despite the mane and stupidly courageous antics, she actually seemed like a genuinely cool person, Colin too, when he gave the other member of the team a consideration.
As he entered the Hospital Wing, Ulysses caught a glimpse of the student whose broom he borrowed and he assumed that's where Rai would've been. Waving off anyone who would have tried to stop him, he noticed the another sitting and consoling the lion, who looked pretty similar to how Uly was feeling himself. Perhaps misery loved company after all.
" Sorry to interrupt, just wanted to check on you. You had some gnarly falls there, pretty badass speedster though. " Ulysses offered a weak smile, attempting to lighten the mood. " Nabbed some stuff from the Great Hall too, if you're, uhh, anyone's hungry. " The first year opened his knapsack to show the assortment of pastries and bread items if anyone was brave enough to partake.
