It was about mid-afternoon and the sun was shining brightly above Hogwarts castle. Argahlon Vexius recently came across a bundle of galleons, which gave him the idea to travel to Diagon Alley just to get himself a new pet and supplies as well. The past two years he always thought the responsibility of having an animal would be fairly simple. He would be in for a surprise, because taking care of another living being was not easy, especially for a twelve year old. This is something that he would have to put a ton of work into to make sure the pet he chooses would be healthy.
Once the young Gryffindor found his way to Diagon Alley, Argahlon began the short walk to Magical Menagerie’s shop. He opened the door slowly, and the bell rang a few times to notify the owner that they had a customer. To his surprise there was no need for the bell because there was an old couple that walked around the wooden stand to greet the young boy. “Hello, hello! It’s always nice to see more customers!” The old man spoke kindly, while his wife stood next to him with a smiling face as usual. They were very nice people and always had the knack for finding the perfect pet for their customers, which is exactly why Argahlon Vexius had decided to choose Magical Menageries.
After proper introductions, the old couple began to escort the young Gryffindor around the shop. At first, they stopped near the cages that held owls individually. There were an assortment of them and every single one was beautiful in its own right, but none of them seemed to stick out to him. They were noisy but very smart animals. Not something he would want to take care of because of the noise itself. The constant hooting would get on his nerves, so it was best for him to choose something else that might fit his needs better in the long run. Arg just shook his head and pointed to the next area of the shop.
The older couple happily escorted him to where the cats were. The meowing was minor, except for one of the black cats at the end. It was hissing, growling, and scratching at the cage it was in. The animal didn’t seem to be very happy, but both the owners insisted that it was a rather gentle cat with a habit of stealing small items, and hiding them in a specific area. That alone made Argahlon giggle lightly, but it was not an animal that he could see himself taking care of. He had a couple cats at home and wanted something different, something that he was not used to seeing very often.
As the elderly couple was leading him to the next set of cages, Argahlon could see a small, black lizard in a nearby cage. He instantly rushed over and began to examine the creature with a careful eye. It was such a beautiful creature with the weird spines that stretched across its back and the black color made it even more appealing to the young Gryffindor. "This is the one." He stated in a calm tone, while handing over a small bag full of galleons. He wasn’t sure how much it was, but Argahlon was prepared to give every last bit of what was there. The elderly couple was more than happy to help him get everything needed for the setup, then make sure he was ready to check out, and leave to head back to Hogwarts.
