Dear Dad,

I've been meaning to write to you and let you know how the sorting ceremony went. Well, it wasn't as dramatic as Henry suggested - no giant octopus fights, I assure you.

So, the Sorting Hat had its moment on my head, whispering things only I could hear. It talked about Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and even Ravenclaw before finally deciding on the latter. Ravenclaw, Dad! Can you believe it? It seems the old hat thinks I have a keen mind! They say it's the house of the clever ones, and I guess I'll have to live up to that.

But I met someone on the train, Ali. She was reading a book and she looked nice. Anyway, she smiled at me, and it felt less lonely.

I'm getting along with the roommates in Ravenclaw, but you know me - I'm not the chatty type. Still, the dorm has a cozy library vibe, and that feels like a second home. I've already organized my books on the empty shelf by my bed, just like back home.

Take care, and give my love to Mum.

Your son,

Dear Dad,

I hope this letter finds you well! I'm really sorry I haven't written more often, but we've got so much schoolwork, it's crazy!!! I'm trying my best to jot down everything the teachers say in class. I'd be scared to miss something that might come up in the finals!

I absolutely love my dorm. I know you were in Hufflepuff, but here in Ravenclaw, we had three dorm options. One for future travellers, one for the creative ones, and the last one for book lovers. Can you guess which one I chose? Haha, that was a joke! Of course, I picked the third option. There are so many books here... I can read all I want without anyone staring at me! And, Dad, could you ask Gideon which dormitory he was in? He was a Ravenclaw too. I bet he was in the artistic one!

There was one terrible incident in Herbology. We were handling Mandrakes – you know, those ugly, crying baby plants. I was clumsy and knocked the flowerpot all over myself. I looked like Merlin after jumping into a muddy puddle! I got mud everywhere, and my teacher made me clean it all up. Do you think she hates me now? I don't really know what happened, but next time I'll be more careful.

Did you know that Hogwarts has runes on the walls, just like we have at home? I know we have The Study of Magical Runes much later, but I'm thinking of reading a book about it.

And Dad, I want to tell you that I really talk to people here. Real people, not imaginary friends! There's Ali from the train, Elodie who's a really cool Muggleborn, and Willow, who loves to read. She picks her books according to the season! They're all great. Do you think they like me?

I don't spend much time with Henry. He's in Gryffindor and has his own group of friends. Sometimes he comes over to chat, which is nice.

How are you, Dad? Have we got any new books at home? How's Mum? Please say hello to her for me. And what about Merlin? I hope you or Mum are taking him for walks!

I love you and can't wait to be home for Christmas!
