Alan had heard stories about dragons, had read research papers about them and had always dreamt of seeing them in person. So he watched in frozen fascination as the globe morphed into something that was so unlike it, yet looked equally ancient. He could feel his heart beat speed up as the smooth yet dusty surface of the weathered globe turned into rough, scaly patches of dragon hide. It looked almost comical when the limbs sprung from within the globe, almost looking like it burst from it, perhaps like a bird would from an egg. For a moment he was transported back to his younger years when a transformation accident had led to a flying bowl, a bird stuck in mid transformation. But there was no mistake here as his will commanded the object to fully change shapes. The copper wires that previously held the globe in a way that would allow it to spin, would split and shape the dragon's neck and tail as spikes burst from its back.

The coloration of scales wasn't quite perfect, especially along the neck area the color resembled more that of oxidized copper, a sickly green and yet despite being much smaller scaled and only reaching Alan's hip in size, the creature was magnificent and didn't bat an eyelash before jumping into action.

As the prefects emotions quickly caught up, all the dragon saw were towers of books and shelves and the feeling of being trapped. And with Alan standing right there the creature did not hesitate to spit its first burst of fire... at HIM. With practiced flexibility the Gryffindor jumped out of the fire's way, dropping his wand in the process, only for the fire to hit the shelf behind him. A shelf full of very flammable, old books. After that as Alan, now full of adrenaline and ready to evade once more tried to get some distance between the dragon and him, he held up his hands in an attempt to calm down the creature, before giving up on that and just running away, knowing without his wand there was only little he could do. Fight or flight kicked in and the Gryffindor knew better than to fight a reptile with skin as thick as triple-layered leather. The tiny dragon came barreling after the Gryffindor, knocking over stacks of books in its way as well as spitting the one or the other burst of flame and Alan just knew he was in a lot of trouble whether he survived this or not. "Library person! Help! There is a fire!" The mention of the dragon causing the fire and chasing him through the library at this moment, caught in his throat as he burst out of the row of shelves some smoke already lifting up, paper, so Alan learned that day, apparently burned fast.

As much as Mateo loved his job and his life here at Hogwarts, there were often times when he missed home. And when he did, he missed them dearly. He had grown up around his family and spent so much time with them in his youth - they were such a big part of his life and even part of the reason that he had even applied for the position here at all. They were his everything, but barely being able to see them anymore couldn't help but hurt.

Therefore, it was natural that the letters between him and his family were so special. They let him maintain a little bit of home even so far away. Especially a hand-written letter from his abuela grandma. She had always been one of his biggest supporters in the family, even more so after his accident, and she was getting on in life, so the fact she took the time to even write to him was such a blessing to him. He had just received the latest monthly update from her, and had finished reading it through with tears in his eyes, when the fire caught his attention. Wait, the fire?

Blazing flames and smoke caught his attention, jolting him from whatever trance he had lulled himself into, as he sprinted towards the fire and cries for help with his wand in hand. "Ay, dios mios! ¿Qué pasó?" Oh my god! What happened? Of course, it was more than shocking to see a weird globe-dragon hybrid pattering around the Hogwarts Library, spitting balls of fire at a student. Naturally, Mateo's first instinct was to push the student back behind him to protect him.

"Was this your doing?" He couldn't take his eyes off of the creature, but had some burning questions that just had to be answered. "What even is that thing- oh god!" The sight of a shelf of ancient tomes erupting with fire deeply hurt as the creature spat another fireball in their direction, but Mateo couldn't dwell on any emotions right now. He needed to remain calm and sort out the situation, ideally quickly.

"Glacius Duo!" he called out, watching the thing freeze up and stop advancing towards them before quickly extinguishing the rest of the flaming bookshelves. But before he could breathe a sigh of relief, he could feel the heat crawling up his hand. "Oh, come on!"

The letter from his abuela grandma had been in his hand the whole time, and had been ever too close a fire, and now the parchment was quickly disintegrating in his hand. There was no choice but to cast Aguamenti and watch sadly as the parchment crumpled into a soggy clump in his hand. It took all of his willpower to hold those tears back in front of the student.

A cloud of anger crossed over Mateo's face, and it seemed to settle. There weren't many times that Mateo was angry, at least not any more, but this was one of those rare occassions. "You need to explain yourself. Now. I do not care if this was an accident. You should know better than creating something that is going to breathe fire in a place full of flammable books!"

He turned away for a second, taking a deep breath and letting the redness fade from his face. "You are going to change this globe-dragon creature back into a normal globe before this freezing charm wears off and it begins to attack us once more. Now. And if you cannot, then you are going to help me bring it to the Transfiguration professor to change back. But I do still need a explanation behind all of this. And quickly."

Alan encountered the librarian with the expression of a deer caught in the headlights. Panic and relief all at once immediately flooded his senses as realization struck that he was both in huge trouble but also that an adult had arrived who could take care of the situation swiftly... or so he hoped. Adults were meant to be competent after all, right? But also surely he wouldn't get in too much trouble, after all this was an accident, right? Alan immediately stepped behind the professor to allow them to do whatever the adult would be planning to do in this situation and said adult went for a freezing spell that took care of the dragon and Alan had to say he was mildly impressed by the dragon that now stood just in the aisle of book shelves and part of him wanted to study it, regardless of the crazy things happening around him. Simply because when would he have a chance to get so close to a seemingly real dragon again? Truth to be told perhaps he could just cast the spell again one day, or rather soon to be honest.

Though the water that then took care of the brunt of the damage, dousing there surroundings and including them in water, really helped but also seemed to escalate things in different ways. Because now even more books were destroyed by just being soaked in water. So in theory the dragon, which was arguably Alan's fault which he was willing to admit, was not the only one who had destroyed books but the librarian too had caused some destruction. Though Alan highly doubted that his reasoning could be accepted or would hold any weight and it would just add to the things that were Alan's fault.

"I didn't even know it could 'breathe fire'! The book I was reading-", a book which was very likely now a heap of soggy ashes, Alan thought begrudingly, "-I just didn't think it would actually work let alone cause all of this! I am caught between amazement and terror and frankly did not mean to cause any of this!" Alan rasped out a panicked apology that could remind of patchwork which had been loosely connected based on too many things at once and just ended in a mess. It was easy to see that the situation had grown beyond Alan's control and that he had simply not thought of his actions and instead let the moment get away with him.

"I can help with the damages! Or somehow make up for it I am sure. I don't really enjoy books or libraries but I do know that these are important to many and I did not wish to cause such destruction to a place so adored by many," he offered genuinely, extending an olive branch in the hopes to somehow make peace. He was very much aware that he had messed up big time and was willing to do anything in his power to help out even if that mean being grounded for the rest of his life or not buying new candy for a few months as he would have to use his money to repay those damages he without question had caused.

Alan swallowed thickly as he eyes the frozen in place dragon creature with an incredulous expression. "I haven't really gotten to the part of counter spells in the book-" he admitted meekly when the librarian demanded of him to change this noble creature back and while he knew it was absolutely reckless and stupid, part of him also did not want to turn this majestic toddler sized dragon back into a boring globe even if he had known how to do so... Though he knew it was perhaps wiser to keep that to himself and not just tell that the obviously angry and distraught librarian, he had half hopes he would still get away mostly unscathed from this? At the very least without too much detention maybe? So he had no interest in giving the man more reasons to get him in trouble over a huge, yet totally understandable mistake. How was Alan supposed to know that this spell would work in the first place? He was not exactly known to exceed expectations at the more difficult spells, but perhaps he should re-evaluate that as he had proven such thoughts wrong today. Not that it was any priority in the moment!

Mild godmodding of Professor Perceval-Phelan has been granted.
Deep breath, deep breath, deep breath.

Mateo couldn't look the kid in the eye, out of anger and frustration, towards the student but also to himself. He was annoyed that this child had even put them in this position in the first place. He was annoyed at the dragon for just existing in a library of flammable books. He was annoyed at himself for not thinking logically to put the books out in some other way and now having to spend even longer repairing the damage that had occurred. At least the kid seemed to accept some semblance of responsibility about the whole incident, and even volunteered to help fix things.

"Oh, do not worry, because you will certainly be doing your share of the help with the damages. Ok, maybe I made a mistake in fixing the issue as well, but that does not let you off the hook when you made this issue to begin with!"

Sighing, Mateo examined the mess around him, before remembering that the problem hadn't been fully solved. "Go and get the Transfiguration professor, and quickly, before this dragon unfreezes. We will discuss this further when you return."

When the Transfiguration Professor and the student returned, and the Professor had successfully cast the counterspell, Mateo thanked him gratefully as he left, before turning back to the student. "Right. For a start, you're going to help me move these damaged books behind my desk. Come on."

Grabbing an armful of parchment and pages, he headed back to his desk, expecting the child to be following behind him.
