Backdated to the first charms class
Boston would be lying if she said she wasn't looking forward to her first charms class. She's been dying to do actual magic since she first learned of it's existence, and now she'll finally be able to do so. She was unaware if they were going to be actually learning spells in their first class, as teachers back at muggle school usually like going over their rules and procedures the entire first class. Which was boring.

Boston had laid out her school uniform the night before, so it wasn't a wrinkled mess. Boston took pride in her appearance, hopefully like other students. her bangs were clipped to the side so they weren't in her face today, and she had found a way to get her curly hair straight. As soon as she felt like she looked presentable, she headed off to an early breakfast and then straight to class.

When Boston arrived, she was one of 2 students waiting outside the classroom. Perhaps, just like her, this student was eager to learn. Or maybe she just didn't want to be late, also like Boston. She inspected the girl with interest and smiled at her. She looked sweet! Judging by her robes, she wasn't a ravenclaw which would explain why she was sure she's never seen her before. "Hola! I'm Boston! " She waved eagerly, causing her books to slip from the one arm she had attempted to slip them into. She quickly caught them and walked closer to the girl, and leaned against the wall next to her. "I'm SOO excited. I've been looking forward to this class the most." She flashed a smile at the girl again. "Hey, do you want to sit together?" She hoped there weren't assigned seats. In non-maj school, most of the time there were.

In all of Charlotte's eleven, nearly twelve years of living, she had not once been excited about school.

In those past years, school for Lottie took place in the house's study room with a tutor by her side breathing down her neck and a textbook laid flat in front of her. She didn't understand math, she was terrible at science, and even in English she nearly fell asleep listening to the tutor's slow voice reading lines out of old novels. For all those years, she just assumed Hogwarts would be the same. That was until she got there.

From flying candles, to talking paintings, to the incessant hum of magic that coursed through the halls and sang in Lottie's ears, this school was nothing like the one she knew. So, for the first time, Lottie was practically buzzing with excitement as she stood outside the Charm's classroom, books in arms and robes tied neatly. She had, of course, risen early that morning to do her hair so that it curled in just the way she liked. Perfect.

Her punctuality was what made her her father's daughter, so she had arrived before all the other first years and taken a post by the closed doorway. The peace of morning at Hogwarts was a relief to her, and despite her energy, she was able to calm for a moment and let herself breathe. The first few days had been so busy, with arrival and sorting and moving into her new dorm. But those few seconds of peace made it all worth it.

It wasn't long before another student arrived. Lottie was amused to find that her excitement wasn't single, but kept her face straight as she paid no mind to this new girl. That was, until she started speaking.

At first, Lottie was taken aback by the girl's enthusiasm, stumbling around as she introduced herself to the Slytherin. There was a beat of silence as Lottie watched the girl nearly spill her books onto the floor. It was then that Lottie realized she should probably introduce herself.

"Charlotte Winfield." She considered extending an arm out for the other girl for a handshake, but thought better of it after the little fiasco with the books. She nodded at Boston's remark of excitement, although she doubted it showed on her face.

"I suppose so." She replied to the offer, a bit relieved to have someone to go beside. After living as an extension of her siblings her entire life, she couldn't quite move past that sense of reliance she seemed to have with all her new acquaintances.

Boston grinned, a slight sigh escaping her lips. She had been counting on the kindness of this girl, which did not fail, to calm her nerves. Charlotte was such a nice name, and it certainly seemed to match the vibes of this girl. "Like Charlotte's web?" She asked with a small smile, raising an eyebrow. She always managed to relate things to a muggle reference when she could to prove that she too had knowledge the other students didn't. She tilted her head. "You know what that is right? It's a -" She choked on the word with a wrinkle of her nose. She couldn't remember, what did they call it? She wasn't sure if she was forgetting an English word or the word altogether. "Sorry.. what do they call the people without magic?" An embarrassed smile followed.

Forgetting her original sentence, she shifted the conversation as more students filed in the halls. "Do you think we'll actually learn a spell today?" She asked, not unkindly. She was eager, she wanted to let her parents know the moment she actually learned magic. Magic! A shiver went through her bones, merlin... this was not real.

The door swung open, and Boston gave Charlotte an eager smile. "Let's sit in the middle, not too up front but not too far back, right?" That's where Boston always preferred to sit anyways. She learned the hard way in Muggle school that the back would be too distracting for her (as much as she loved the kids back there) and the front was too quiet. The front was also coined as the nerds. She wasn't sure if those silly rules followed to Hogwarts, but she decided to play it safe anyways. She set her books on the table and slid into the seat, shaking her leg up and down once she sat. One thing Charlotte would come to learn is that Boston had ADHD and went unmedicated, and no matter how much she cared about the lessons she was always fidgeting.

She watched as everyone found their seats, and then turned to the front. The professor seemed like a kind lady. She had a contagious smile and a whimsical energy around her Boston decided right then and their she loved this professor, and she already felt comfortable in her presence. She spoke with a passion about Charms and what they would be doing in this class, and Boston followed every word.

Lottie tried her best to put on a welcoming demeanor, a new concept to her. It wasn't like she had much to mask back at her home, she just acted the way she was told. But now she actually had to put on something of a performance for those around her, or else they may find her to be cold or unkind, and although she couldn't care much for her own reputation, her family cared for their own, and she had a duty to uphold it.

"Yes, I suppose so." She tried for a light smile, which was halfway true in response to the humor of her being compared to a spider from a children's novel. At Boston's hesitance, Lottie quickly jumped in to finish her sentence. "A muggle fable. I'm quite familiar with the story, my sister used to read it to me when I was little." She bit her tongue, her face reddening a bit. Had she overshared?

She brushed aside her embarrassment, quickly draining the color from her face. She gave a small shrug at the question, though it did spark a bit of excited curiosity within her. "I'd imagine so."

When the room opened for entry, the two made their way inside. Lottie was at once fascinated by the interior of the classroom. It seemed she just couldn't stop being surprised by things. She nodded absentmindedly at Boston's question, not really caring very much for where they placed themselves, as long as she could pay attention to the lesson. She realized then that she had never really been inside of a proper classroom, only the study back at home. It somewhat saddened her.

She followed Boston to the seat of her choosing, patting down her robes and attempting to make a good impression with the professor, who seemed to be a respectable individual.
