Tears Closed

The tears that Bella refused to let fall until she was by herself made her eyes swim as she stepped down the last step onto the grounds. Trees littered the grounds here and there in the open space but Bella was heading towards an area more closely packed with trees. She got to the one that she normally sits in and threw her bag up onto the low branch before slumping down against the stump, onto the floor.

The tears rolled silently down her face as she thought about what had happened. She was just trying to make friends with a girl when that boy had come over. He had seemed rude at first but then he had relaxed a bit. She felt that the three of them could have been close, until the boy started talking about how he hated muggles and muggle borns. Everything had escalated so quickly, and Ozzy had been hurt.

Bella hadn't been directly offended, she is a pure blood after all, it's just that the boy reminded her of her parents and the awful things they used to say. She tried so hard to forget about them and move on. She didn't want anything to do with them and she certainly didn't want to be anything like them. Then to have this boy imply that she was a traitor for not hating muggles. It made Bella angry. And in the heat of the moment the only way she could express the anger was to cry.

Sniffing and still sobbing lightly Bella looked up from her where her head had been on her knees to gaze upon the surroundings. Hogwarts was beautiful and it was something that would always be calming for her. After a few moments Bella started to get the feeling that she wasn't alone anymore. As she peered around to see where this person was they walked around the side of a neighbouring tree, obviously having come from the castle.

Sean had only caught the tail-end of what had transpired in the dining hall. He knew of the Altman family, as most wealthy pureblood families knew of each other, but he had heard his parents call the Altmans a bunch of Muggle-lovers. Why would an Altman use the word "mudblood"?

Though initially Sean had been tempted to run down that Slytherin boy and teach him a thing or two about what he'll do to boys who make girls cry, Sean decided in the end that whoever that girl was needed a kind word more than that boy needed a lesson in manners. He followed silently behind her as she crumpled at the base of a tree, obviously crying. Sean waited a few moments before approaching her. He was always a bit useless in these situations. He always laughed away his own problems, but Sean doubted that worked for most girls.

"Well, that was a holy show," Sean said brightly, peeking around the adjoining tree, looking up at the sky in case the girl would be embarrassed at someone seeing her cry, "That kid was a right gowl. You okay? I can go muck up his face, if ya'd like."

Sean chanced a look at the girl, not wanting to embarrass her, but felt that he may seem uncaring if he didn't make any sort of eye contact. He supposed he gave her enough time to wipe her tears away if she so chose.

Josh had already walked out of the Great Hall and over to the Grounds when he realised that he wasn't being followed by that prick. Evidently, that guy who Josh punched was a guy named Ozzy Chastain. He was Bella's brother and a notorious member of Slytherin House. Everyone had been talking and whispering about what happened at the Great Hall. Josh didn't know what to think of it. That prick got what he deserved. He may be older than me, but he will never make me look weak! Not as long as I live! Josh had been laying peacefully on the ground when Bella had come over to a tree close to him and started crying. Moments later, a young boy, Gryffindor by color, approached her. Josh decided to eavesdrop.

"Well, that was a holy show," the boy said brightly. "That kid was a right gowl. You okay? I can go muck up his face, if ya'd like."

Josh immediately knew that boy was talking about him. "Who's gonna muck who's face? Josh asked annoyingly as he slowly got up. Josh slowly approached the boy and continued on. "You saw what I did to that prick, you sure you wanna end up like him or even worse?"

Before waiting for an answer from that boy, Josh went on further. "Besides, he got what he deserved! Nobody threatens me and gets away with it. I was only trying to make some friends for a change but obviously he didn't like that so much! Josh growled.

Everyone misunderstands Josh. It was nothing special. After all, he was sorted into Slytherin. If only they knew where I came from, they wouldn't immediately jump to conclusions. Even if that were true to some people, most people do have the stereotypical image of Slytherin House so it can't be helped.

Bella was still sobbing when the other boy had approached her. She had wiped some of the tears away when she realised that he was trying to avoid looking at her, in a strangely amusing gentleman manor. When she heard what he had said she couldn't help but giggle. The boy was another Gryffindor and Bella had seen him around a few times and knew his name was Sean Dornan, the surname sounding familiar though she couldn't pin point why.

Before she had the chance to reply though Josh had come storming over, having clearly heard what Sean had said. The anger that had died down a little since her walk from the hall bubbled straight back up and Bella stood so quickly she nearly gave herself head rush. She pulled her wand out of her back pocket and walked right up to Josh, holding it to his neck.

"I'm not here to start a fight but I am not afraid to. Why don't you just piss off," She spat with more venom than she had ever heard before. She wasn't trying to argue with him, she still even believed not to deep down that the two could have been, and one day might be, friends. But right now she couldn't stand to look at his face. It brought back to many memories for her and they were not nice ones.

"I'm not here to start a fight but I am not afraid to. Why don't you just piss off," Bella said jabbing her wand at Josh's throat. Josh slowly grabbed Bella's wand and lowered it. He had never felt so humiliated. His pride as a Blood-Purity supremacist seemed to have totally disappeared. After all, even though he won those fights he had, it still took a lot of energy.

"Look, I know we don't agree with each other," Josh started. "but I'm not like those typical Slytherins who hate people due to ignorance. Sure I hate Muggles and Mudbloods, but I hate them for a reason. I don't feel like wasting my breath explaining to you why. You wouldn't care anyway."

Josh then turned away from Bella and sighed. "It's such a shame that we were just about to open up to each other when your idiot brother came and messed it all up for me!

Josh then walked off back into where he was at a moment ago. He laid back down and looked up at the sky. I can't believe I lowered myself to that level. So much for Pure-Blood pride. I just hope these fools won't turn me into a pathetic Blood-Traitor like the rest of my family.

Bella sighed again still shaking a little with adrenaline and a fresh wave of tears washed through her eyes as she slumped back to the tree. She did care about why Josh thought the things he did but she was too angry and upset to speak to him right now. She would though. She made it her mission that she would understand one day what it was. She also agreed that Ozzy coming over probably wasn't a great idea but he was just trying to protect her, and after hearing Josh threaten her and Jennifer, he wasn't just going to stand by. Afterall it isn't exactly the nature of a Slytherin to back away from a fight.

Bella had been so lost in her thoughts that she had almost forgotten about the other boy, Sean, who had witnessed that little confrontation, and was still standing awkwardly a few feet away. Despite the tears still on her face, she moved over a little in an inviting gesture for Sean to sit down. He had already seen her crying and angry so there was no point trying to hide it from him at this point.
"Sorry about that, maybe 'mucking his face up' wouldn't be a great idea right now," she gave an almost sad laugh at the end and waited with her head against her knees for his response.

Alma was making her rounds around the Grounds of Hogwarts, pulling her too-thin cloak tighter around her. It was the beginning of summer, she really shouldn't be quite that cold, strolling outside of the castle walls. Maybe she was coming down with something? Alma sighed. Getting a cold was just what she needed right now...

She looked up when she heard shouting in the distrance. A couple of students had gathered on the Grounds and tempers were running quite hot, as it seemed. She saw a boy storming over to two other students, the girl of the pair jumping up at the sight of him. Words were exchanged and the girl drew her wand to point at the newcomer.

Alma's eyes widened. She had expect to maybe find someone trying to sneak into the Forbidden Forest or something like that. She hadn't thought of the possibility of having to break up a fight.
Alma gathered the seam of her cloak in a way that surely looked rather ridiculous yet would keep the fabric from tangling and tripping her. The last thing she needed was to fall flat onto her face when she was trying to actually give off an air of authority.

Cloak secured, Alma rushed over to the group before things got out of hand. As she got closer, she was able to listen to a few bits and pieces of their argument.

"Everyone, please don't fight," Alma called out as she got close enough to the group. She came to a stop in front of them and tried to catch her breath for a second or two before continuing. "If you require a mediator, please talk to me, a fellow prefect or a teacher, but I'd like to ask you to please refrain from fighting. Especially with magic. We do not point our wands at each other unless we are in a formal duel or while attending class, being supervised by a teacher. Now, I believe I heard you argue about an issue regarding blood status? As a prefect, I'll have to inform you that no student is worth more or less than the other. We're all witches and wizards, there should not be any argument about who has more right to be here. I understand that not everyone can get along with each other, of course. With so many different characters attending school, I don't think it possible for everyone to get along with each other. Yet I do not ask you to be friends. I would simply like to ask you to treat each other with the respect. If you do not think yourself capable of that, I am afraid I will have to inform a teacher about this issue."

Alma looked at her fellow students, hoping that they'd understood her between all her huffing and attempting to get sufficient air into her lungs as to not suddenly pass out. Her hiding in the library for days on end really hadn't done her level of fitness much good, it would seem.

Still, keeping these students from cursing each other was more important than Alma being able to walk without a painful stitch in her side, so she tried to push it out of her mind and focus on the situation at hand instead.

"So, what do you say? Do you think you can get along enough not to curse each other the moment either my or someone else's back is turned or shall I ask for a teacher to mediate?"

Josh was almost about to fall asleep when that prefect showed up. She came out of nowhere, but Josh didn't care one bit. Instead, he focused on trying to clear his mind. When the prefect finished her long, boring monologue, Josh felt insulted. He had ended the conversation with Bella the best way he could. A prefect should be the least of his worries.

Since he didn't wanna get into further trouble, but also didn't wanna be told off like that, Josh decided to leave a note for the prefect so he didn't have to deal with that unnecessary "problem-solver." He took out a sheet of parchment and wrote the following:

I would appreciate if you would mind your own business. This matter is between me and her and nobody else should be involved. Besides, you don't know the whole story to it and you immediately decided to "take action" when it wasn't even necessary. I already went though a lot today and I don't need a prefect interfering with something that doesn't concern them. Also, there's no way what you told us just now is how you truly feel about blood purity. You told us these things because you're a prefect and you're supposed to say stuff like that. You know you can't convince certain people about it especially from our own House so perhaps you can save your breath because you don't seem convinced yourself. So the next time you decide to take action, be sure you truly know what's going on before you do something brash like you just did right now.

Josh folded the note and flung it over to the prefect that was still hovering over them. If that prefect knows better, she will not butt into people's business like that before knowing what's truly going on. Josh lays back down and tries to go to sleep hoping that he wouldn't be disturbed like that again.

The prefect had come running over to them more than a little too late. Josh had already left and Bella was already leaning back against the tree. For some reason, though Bella couldn't quite explain why, the students interference annoyed her. Maybe it was the ridiculous timing or the fact that Bella's body was still reeling from a fight that it never got to have, but Bella had glared at the girl, almost unintentionally. Logically she knew that the intruder had done nothing wrong and she sort of respected her for attempting to break up a fight but Bella had been through a lot today and it could be said that she wasn't in the best of moods.

Watching Josh write something on some parchment and throw it to the prefect, Bella silently hoping it detailed some of the rant she had just had in her head, she decided that there was no point in her saying anything to the girl, she was just doing her job after all. Bella stood and pulled her bag off the tree. To think she had only been in this spot less than an hour and she was already running away again was almost laughable, so much for being a brave Gryffindor.

"Sorry," She said to the prefect. Sarcastically, in a voice only her and Sean could have possibly heard, she muttered "I'll be sure to treat him with respect in the future" Turning to face Sean this time as she shouldered her bag, she said
"I'm gonna go find somewhere else to sit, you coming?"
