The First Rule of Flying is...

Flying Class
It was supposed to be one of the easier subjects. Well, easier than bloody Astronomy, that's for sure! And yet here she is, standing next to a stubborn broom that didn't even want to listen to her. Noa-Elise looked on with slight envy as she observed almost half of her classmates hovering a few feet off the ground; the bolder ones zipping as fast as the old school brooms could carry them.
And here she was, standing on her spot with a broom that didn't even roll over when she tried commanding it. It took every ounce of self-control for the Slytherin girl to not take out her wand and maybe give that broom a little nudge to listen to her. But, that is against the rules and she won't tarnish her name because of some impatient streak of hers that she must learn to temper.
Still, it was not a nice feeling to see that she was getting left behind. Merlin, the excitement and happiness she had right after Charms had basically evaporated at this point and she could feel the gnawing of her insecurity scratching in her chest.
No doubt her childhood friends would make fun of her, especially Felix who is no doubt going to gloat about his broomstick prowess as soon as he gets back from Beauxbatons. Then again, why would any of them be surprised? Noa-Elise had avoided riding on broomsticks, even the toy one that Mother and Father had allowed ever since she was seven.
But broomsticks look so... unsafe.
Well, nothing will get accomplished by standing around and whinge about it. Trying for the umpteenth time, she stood next to the broom and gave sharp, "Up!"
For a moment, the broomstick lurched up, and so did her heart, before it fell back to the ground. Not exactly what the professor had instructed them but it was a step in the right direction. She looked around once again and noticed there were only a few of them left standing with their brooms on the ground.
A rather tall boy near her confidently came to his broom and commended it with a bark of "Up" and it automatically flew into his hand. Without even looking at her, he easily flew to the ground and whizzed past a couple of students who were chatting side by side.
Feeling a bit competitive, Noa-Elise focused on her broom and took a deep breath. "UP" she said in a firm yet confident tone. And by some miracle, maybe Circe or Merlin, but it finally went to her outstretched hand.
A smile appeared on her lips and she swung her foot over the broom and took her position to fly. She kicked off the ground before she found herself slipping to the side. A gasp escaped her lips as she squirmed to correct her position, only for her to slip on that side instead.
"Why can't broomsticks just come with saddles?!" she yelled out to no one in particular.

The First Rule of Flying is...
@Noa-Elise ForsytheBoston played futbol when she was younger, so sports weren't new to her. However, wizarding sports were a shocker to her. Flying brooms were so funny to her, she actually laughed every time she saw one. Because how in the world did they work? Like, they literally should not work. But then again, magic is unexplainable. She had taken a particular interest in quidditch, which seemed to be the high school American football of Hogwarts. The crowds were huge.. the entire school showed up. Everyone knew who was on the teams... and Boston just knew she had to join.
She was almost a natural. She was confident in what she was doing, and maybe that's why she was able to get her broom to listen. Listen. Can a broom listen? She pondered this before she even walked towards her broom. The professor had told them to tell the broom to get up.. by saying 'up'.. Again, she found herself wondering how that worked. She stood next to a brunette girl who seemed to be in her own world. Boston smiled in her direction just in case. After watching the professor's demonstrations, Boston bounced on her toes a bit. You could tell she was excited.
She held out her hand, not waiting another second, and said "Up!" She opted for a gentle yet firm tone, like the one you'd use with a dog, in case the broom had feelings too. She almost laughed to herself. She was telling an inanimate object to do something... and it actually did it. She raised her eyebrows as the broom soared into her hand. She mounted the broom and shifted so it didn't hurt. Not the most comfortable, but she could get used to it.
She heard a shout next to her and glanced over. She then noticed the girl having trouble. She resisted the urge to laugh again, not at the girl but because she found the situation funny. A smile tugged at her lips, and she hoped the girl did not notice. Boston inched closer. "I know right, these feel weird!" She offered her arm to help steady the girl. "The first step would probably be.. try not to fall off, I guess. So like-" She sucked her teeth and looked the girl up and down. "It's kind of like a bike. Do you know what a bike is? Just, don't shift your body to accommodate where you think you need to go. Just... be. " She hoped that made sense to the girl. It made sense in her mind but she knew it was confusing when she put it to words.

The First Rule of Flying is...

A nervous squeak escaped Noa's lips as she awkwardly swayed on the broom, her robes did not help with the slippery handle. Out of nowhere, an arm offered itself to her with a promise of stability. Noa looked at the owner of the said arm and saw a girl with thick brown hair and equally dark brown eyes giving her an encouraging smile.|Interacting with: @Boston Cardoni|
Feeling her cheeks heat up at the ridiculous position she was in, and in front of a classmate no less! She shyly placed a hand on the girl's arm to steady herself and the girl began giving her pointers by saying that it's like riding a 'baiyk'?
When she asked her if she knew what that was, Noa shook her head. She knew of cars, buses, and tubes, but she didn't know what the other thing was. Wobbling a bit more, Noa swallowed a yelp when the broom suddenly turned to its other side before she grasped the handle in a more firm grip. Noa took a look at the Ravenclaw girl, seeing her ease with the more obedient broomstick, and copied her posture, which was difficult as she trusted the broom and Noa did not.
"Um, I'm Noa-Elise" she said, trying to hold out a hand to shake while her other hand grasped the handle, not wanting to seem rude even amid a very life-or-death situation for her. "I don't usually introduce myself to other people like this, Mother would be appalled by my lack of decorum but this thing just won't listen"
She really should've listened more to the professor's words but his instructions had been simple enough. How can quidditch players and broom racers do this? Circe, how can anyone do it? She saw a couple of students hovering around her now, and she would very much like to learn Apparition now before she would ever return to a broomstick.
