Raizel's first year in Hogwarts was certainly memorable considering everything that had happened. New friends, new enemies and for sure in the incoming year, her list would grow on both. Aside from that, traumatizing ones are included. That's right, they weren't lying when they said things go wrong in Hogwarts and not everything is rainbows and butterflies. Beauty goes hand in hand with danger after all. While Hogwarts is great, you can't deny the danger lurking in the shadows and sometimes, it's your fellow student that's a danger to you.

Raizel believed that her Summer break would just be her relaxing. She would practice her spellcasting more since she picked up a couple of new, and advance, spells during summer camp but her mom had already taken her wand which is a bummer. Underage magic. Dang it. Oh how she would love to continue her spellcasting. Then again, that's not gonna stop her from doing some advance readings, especially charms.

Things were supposed to be fun until that fateful day.

It was a day like any other. Peaceful, a gentle breeze blowing, the sun's ray peeking through the gaps of the curtain. This day is a bit special though because they are celebrating her father's promotion. Yes, he had finally finished his training, he is now a full-fledged Auror. Raizel was happy of course but that also means he would be more busy now with his job which is quite sad for the young girl. Less time to hang out. Still, she was happy and hopefully soon, she will get to help him. Becoming an Auror, right, she had made that her goal with her father being her inspiration.

"So, my lion cub, what have you been doing in school?" Ravi asks as he and Raizel sit in the living room, keeping his daughter entertained and watching over the sleeping figure of his son. His wife, Michelle was busy preparing some food for their humble celebration and with magic, she already has all the help she needs with just a flick of her wand. "Hope you didn't get into more trouble."

"Trouble? Of course not." That was a lie of course and Raizel could tell with how skeptical her father just looked at her that he knew she was lying. She has one detention under her belt, her parents know about it of course and she certainly got an earful from her about that. She was lucky enough it came in a regular letter, not a howler.

"Raizel please, try not to get into more fights." Her mother called out to her with worry in her voice. No parent would want to see their kids getting hurt. Sure, this is Hogwarts where things happen, getting hurt is a part of the package deal of attending it but still. She was already worrying about those and she can't have more to add to it.

"I'll try mom. Does fighting in duels count though?" Raizel asked with a sheepish grin but her mother simply sighed. She's probably thinking right now on why she even let her daughter join the dueling club but she knows that she couldn't exactly keep her from doing the sports that she wants.

"Right, you're part of the Gryffindor dueling team now right?" Her father asked with a smile.

"Yes! It's fun and thrilling. You loved dueling then too right?"

"Yes, of course. I say it was fun."

"Fun until I visit you in the hospital wing." Michelle added. Ravi let out a chuckle after that. He could still imagine the worried look that Michelle would have whenever he got sent to the hospital wing, either because he got into a fight or he got into a duel. Seriously though, like father, like daughter. They are so alike.

"I've also learned a lot of spells!"

"Really?" Ravi asked.

"Yeah." Raizel has that proud grin on her face. Her parents could only imagine what those spells are but Ravi could bet they were Charms. She had shown quite an interest in Charms and she had already told him before how she learned the Slowing Charm, Freezing Charm and the General Counter-Spell when those are part of 2nd year Charms. Is he proud though, yes, yes he is. Ravi pulled her closer, ruffling the young girl's hair with a proud grin on his face. "That's my lion cub. A Voltrouz through and through too."

Raizel only gave him a wondering look. "Say dad, you haven't told me about them, about that side of the family." She asked. Truth be told, that part of her is a mystery. All she knows is that her father is part of a pureblood family, perhaps well-known in its own way.

"I don't think there are a lot of things to be said about it. Although I could say that most people in the family do tend to have talents in Charms and spells against the dark arts. Much like you. Aside from that, the Voltrouz is an Auror family. Most of your relatives are Aurors."

"Oh, really?"

"Really. But just because they are doesn't mean you have to follow it."

"But you're an Auror now. Doesn't that mean it's a family tradition?"

"That is true but this was a path that I wanted to take."

"And I want to be like you."

Ravi chuckled, booping his daughter's nose. "You still have a long way ahead of you so it's too early to be making a decision now li'l cub. But if you truly are keen on taking this path, then we will support you, through and through."

Nothing could ruin this day. It's all going well. They are happy. Their support for each other is strong. After all, isn't that what family is for?

Sometimes, no. There is always that one person or maybe there was more but Raizel wouldn't want more of them, not after meeting her.

She came in like a storm, driving away the beautiful atmosphere that was surrounding the humble home of the Voltrouz. Unexpectedly too. Three knocks on the door, almost surprising everyone within the household. As a wizarding family, it was unlikely for them to have visitors unless they were fellow wizards and witches.

"Who would be visiting?" Ravi wondered as he stood up, gesturing for Michelle to join the kids for now while he goes and entertains their surprise guest.

There stood a woman, perhaps around her 60s. She has her long black hair held up with a couple of white strands and wearing a fancy red and black dress robe. Along with her was an old man wearing black and red suit, a pin on his chest with an image of what looks like a tiger. In his hand was a fancy looking walking stick made out of smoothened dark brown wood with its handle adorning a golden hue and shaped like that of a tiger head.

The old man's brown eyes scanned the residence until his gaze fell on Ravi, a smile slowly forming on his face before speaking. "Hello son." He greeted, spreading his arms for a hug but it looked like Ravi wasn't that pleased. The old man frowned but he didn't made a fuss about it. Instead, he cleared his throat and lowered his arms.

"Father…" Ravi looked at him, the warmth that was usually seen in his eyes gone, looking rather cold as he eyed the people before him. It became colder when his gaze fell on the woman. "Mother." He growled, a frown forming on his face.

"Hmph, you still haven't changed, have you? And here I thought you finally left that woman after hearing you had become an Auror." The woman spoke and looked over to Michelle and the kids. "I supposed not."

Her gaze was something else, there was a hint of hostility, of disgust. This wasn't the first time that she felt it for even some students at Hogwarts gives her the same vibe, the vibe of a Pureblood purist.

"If you're here to insult my family, I suggest you leave." Ravi was looking like he's ready to slam that door on their face. If only his father wasn't around he would've done so already.

"Now, now, Cordelia, we're not here to cause tension." The old man told the woman named Cordelia before turning his head towards Ravi. "We're just here to congratulate you for your new position."

"And I remember writing in that letter to come alone if you want to visit." Ravi responded with an annoyed tone. But then he sighed, stepping aside to let his parents in. As much as he doesn't want to, they need to be… hospitable.

Michelle left the kids for now to serve their guests some tea as they did take their time to visit… even though one of them isn't as welcomed as the other. Raizel's eyes had been on the two the whole as she stayed by her brother's side, watching them as they took a seat on the couch opposite of them. She could see how her parents were probably talking about how to handle the situation just near the kitchen.

"You must be Raizel correct?" She heard the old man address her, making her return her focus to him. "I heard things about you from your father… well, more like read them from his letters."

"Y-Yes sir." The young girl answered, feeling quite nervous. Despite the fact that they are her grandparents, this is the first time that she's seeing them. To her, they are strangers. While the man was trying his hardest to be friendly, the woman wasn't. She seems to not care at all as she sits there, waiting for this to be over with. Raizel would like for this to be over with too, she won't lie.

The man named Van chuckled upon hearing her confirming it, leaning back. "Don't worry, they were great things." He assured her with a smile on his face, looking over to both Ravi and Michelle as they joined them before turning his attention back to the young girl and her brother. "Got into Gryffindor from what I've heard. I guess your parents' blood runs in you. There is nothing wrong with that though cause our family does have a history of being Gryffindors but you probably know that."

No, not really, Raizel was tempted to say that but she remained quiet. She wasn't that comfortable speaking out her thoughts to them anyway. Not to mention, this is her chance to know more about their family in a way. And so she listened, her grandfather quickly noticing it, amusing him. "Curious aren't you…" she followed his gaze falling onto her father and then back to her. "I supposed some things were kept from you which is understandable. Well anyway, aside from that, I heard you also took a liking to dueling? Part of the dueling team now right? Your father was pretty much the same when he was your age, right Cordelia?"

"I suppose…" the woman spoke, looking over to the girl. "Dueling, Charms, Aurors those do run in the family from what I could remember. But I don't think I could say the same to her." Unexpected things to be told, making the girl flinch as she looked over to the woman, her cold dark eyes looking down on her like she was some insect. It was full of disgust and disappointment.

"Cordelia." Van gave her a stern look, not wanting for her to make things worse as the tension began.

"I am just saying. If she were a pureblood then I do believe that she has a future for greatness. The Voltrouz had achieved great things after all. They are well-known Aurors, talented with Charms and I could say, they were also talented duelists but… unfortunately, that's beyond for someone with tainted blood as hers." Oh, those words hurt more than the comments that the purists at school would say for some reason. Perhaps it was because it was her own grandmother telling her, her own family. She could take insults thrown at her but this, this is unbearable.

"That's enough." Ravi stood up, hands clenched into a fist. "I want you to leave now. " He told her. The woman doesn't seem to be that affected by it though, still looking calm as she got up and then looking down on the young girl.

"Might as well step down as a duelist dearie. I doubt you have enough magic capabilities in you to handle it nor be competent enough for it. Saves you from the humiliation if you fail horribly… if you haven't already. It's not for a half-blood Voltrouz like you. If only that mudbloo-"

"Leave!" Ravi yelled, the first time ever that Raizel heard her father raise his voice out of pure anger. He even looked like he was just about to draw his wand to threaten his own mother out of their house. He's not taking any insults, not to his family and not from his very own.

"C'mon kids, let's go. I believe this short celebration is over… for now." Michelle said to her kids. She should've done this earlier. Nothing good happens when Cordelia Voltrouz joins in on conversations. She was a purist at heart. "Mr. Van, I am glad that you came to visit and congratulate Ravi on his achievements but… I think it is now time for you to leave."

Van sighed, touching the back of his neck. "I apologized for what happened."

"This is why I told you to come alone." Ravi growled.

"Ravi, that's enough." Michelle warned, gesturing towards the kids.

"Again, I apologized." As he was about to leave, he took one last glance at the family and then to the kids, especially the girl who looked quite affected by that, like a lot. He sighed. "I'll make it up to you." and then left, leaving them alone.

So what if she was just a half-blood? She's still a Voltrouz. If those things about her family are true, then surely she could do it, she's still a part of it despite her bloodstatus. She could still be just as competent as them. And she dares tell her to quit dueling just because she might not be competent enough because of that? No! She can't accept that.

It was frustrating but all Raizel could do was lie in bed and think about it. How she wished she could've said something back to that old hag but she couldn't, she was left speechless by her. She couldn't take the way she looked at her, the way she talked to her. She wanted to scream, ah, how she wished she could cast spells right now, find a dummy and just hit it with flipendo over and over again, set it on fire, just let out some steam.

"Raizel." Her father's voice snapped her out of her thoughts, almost jumping off of her bed but she didn't. She waited, hoping her father would leave her alone if she didn't respond and act like she's sleeping but he knew. He knows how she acts when she's upset, when she needs comfort and he's here to give it to her. "I know you're still awake." He spoke, sitting on the edge of the bed where the girl was lying down. "Do not think about what your grandmother said. Blood Status is not everything."

There was still silence as the girl pondered in her mind on how to react. She had been trying to forget ever since that encounter but whatever what's been said had already etched in her mind. "What if she's right though?" She asked, her voice low almost like a whisper

"Which she isn't. Blood Status doesn't matter. Your grandmother is just too stuck in the past to accept that, still clinging to the old ways of the family." As much as he didn't want to admit that horrible past their family has, the girl does deserve to know.

"Old ways?"

"Purists' ways." For some reason, those beliefs run in most Pureblood wizarding families and their family isn't an exception to it. The only difference is that they were one of those who chose to change… even if they might be called blood traitors. "Your grandfather was the one who changed all of that but as you just saw… some people still remained following the old times. But anyway, you don't have to keep in mind what she just said. Those are all nonsense okay? You could still achieve great things no matter what. Your blood status doesn't define you." Ravi leaned towards the girl, giving her a gentle kiss on the head before saying good night and left the room.

While she did find comfort in her father's words, there was still a part of her that keeps going back to what her grandmother said. She gritted her teeth, holding tight onto her bedsheet. Well, she'll show her then, she'll show her that she's competent enough, that she too could achieve great things despite being a so-called 'Half-blood'. She'll learn more spells, gain experience, and be a good duelist and then in the future, she could become an Auror as well.

Right, that's what she'll do.
