The Smog clung to the air like a blanket, making the cold wind feel heavier as she walked forward slowly taking in her surroundings. Her mother and father were expressing more excitement than her at this point as she fixed her hands around the handles of her luggage.

"I told you I could carry it mi nina." Her father's accent rasped against the wind making him clear his throat. They were all used to the clear country air of her youth, the farm never having any type of pollution block out the stars like a city did.

"I got it Papa, we're here anyway." It felt exciting although none of it translated to the oddly serious expression on the child's face. As she leveled her eyes at the brick wall.

"Are you scared?" Her mother's hands smoothed over any wrinkles on her outfit as she contemplated the words. Breathing in she felt every part of herself buzzing with excitement, but any fears she had seemed to have turned to glass and shattered at the full force of her wonder of what was to come.

"No." Her mother's eyes crinkled as she smiled down at Scarlett.

"That's my girl, remember you are my daughter and you are going to do great things," her mother's hands cupped her cheeks as she kissed her head, "I love you."

"And I love you too, be safe, and don't let anyone push you around." Scarlett took in their words before looking over her shoulder at the brick wall that was to lead her to this promised new adventure.

"I love you both too. Don't forget to feed the chickens for me." With a slow but determined pace she pushed through that platform, looking around on the other side to her fresh beginning.
