Not for the first time, Lucia was in a train compartment by herself, preparing for a lonely journey back to school unless one of her friends found her. If she had any idea where Lindsey or Eun-ji (when Lucia thought about it, those seemed to be the only friends she had left) were, she might have gone to sit with them, but Lucia was absolutely clueless as to what their plans might be. Faced with sitting by herself or a lonely wander down the train that might prove fruitless anyway, Lucia picked the former and set up in the first empty compartment she came across, levitating her trunk onto the luggage rack and allocating the seat next to her to River. "At least you haven't picked Faith over me," Lucia told the pygmy puff seriously, "unlike my sister." Faith, the girl whom Briar had been friends with since first year, always seemed preferable to Lucia, to the point where the older sibling wondered if Briar was developing a little crush. At least Faith seemed like a nice person - but Lucia didn't want to spend hours in a train compartment with her. She'd feel like she was third-wheeling.

River squeaked, bringing Lucia back to the present. "Aw, you're so cute." The Hufflepuff scooped up her pet and leaned against the window. As she stroked the grateful pygmy puff, who snuggled against her elbow, Lucia watched the view shift from brick walls to city and then fields. The train was picking up speed. "We'll be at Hogwarts in a few hours."
