Where I Belong
Wren stayed close to her father as people brushed past her, all walking with such purpose, as though they had someplace incredibly important to go. But there was a key difference between her and them. You see while most of them are muggles on their way to work, she is a witch on her way to Hogwarts! THE most well renowned wizarding school, possibly in the world! So many of her idols had gone there and now, in an incredible stroke of luck, she would be going too! She couldn't help but wonder what kind of life she would have there. What house will she be sorted into? Which of the classes would become her favorite? And, probably most pressing of all, would she make any friends?
She was practically buzzing with excitement, but made sure to keep a calm exterior, because as her father says “It is unbecoming of a young witch such as yourself to be showing off such sporadic emotions.” She didn't want to be sporadic today, today was first impressions, her first chance to show her worth to her peers and teachers. Suddenly her father stopped. She looked up in concern only to find that they had already made it to the Hogwarts Express and she had been so lost in though she hadn't noticed. She turned her attention back to her father who had placed a hand on her shoulder with a soft smile, a rare display of affection from him. Her mother stood behind him her eyes glimmering with pride as tears rimmed them. "Be a good girl now Wren, cause just enough trouble." He winked at her his eyes shining with mischief. And suddenly it hit her, that for the first time in her life, she would be away from the two people she most loved. She nodded to him blinking back the sting of tears. His brow creased in concern, clearly she wasn't hiding her sadness that well, saddness is a very sporadic emotion. "Come here my beautiful little birdie." He cooed pulling her into a hug, another rare display of affection. He mother joined the hug and they all lingered there for a moment, savoring this last moment of contact before they would lose each other for next few months. When her father finally pulled back he told her, "Be brave now little one. This school is where you belong. It always has been." and before she could respond he stood up and her mother bent down to give her a kiss on the forehead, murmuring that she loved her and reminding her to wear her cloak when it was cold. And suddenly, before she could even comprehend it, she was the one holding her trunk, not her father. And she was the one boarding the train, without them. But even as tears pricked at the inside of her eyes she did not let them fall, her fathers last words to her echoing through her mind, "This is where you belong, it always has been."
