"This is impossible"

Noa-Elise groaned as she passed through the corridor, looking like a girl on a mission, which she was to be perfectly honest. A mission to satiate her sweet tooth.

It had been several hours after the train departed from Platform 93/4 and even longer after she last eaten something. Mitzy had prepared a full English breakfast, her large tennis ball-sized eyes glistened with unshed tears as she poured fresh orange juice into Noa-Elise's cup and squeaked that 'Young Miss should eat a big meal so she wouldn't get hungry'. Sadly, she only nibbled on the sausages and dipped the buttered toast into runny egg yolks; her insides had been doing the Irish jig since the night before and found herself without any appetite.

And apparently, her traitorous tummy now demanded to be filled.

She had planned to get to know other new students and find out as much as she could about Hogwarts. While the tutors and the books back home had filled her in on the most basic information about the school, no doubt other kids that came from wizarding families had their own stories to tell. And she's genuinely curious about their opinions about the houses.

Her stomach grumbled loudly, making the older students from the other compartment look at her with surprise. She mumbled an incoherent apology raced through the corridors and managed to catch a glimpse of the food trolley Father told her about. Without hesitation, she walked towards the witch who had a plump but friendly face, and asked if she still had some sweets left.

"Not to worry dearie," the trolley witch said "Still have enough to fill a small Honeydukes stall!"

Noa-Elise resisted the urge to cheer out loud before ordering a large bottle of iced pumpkin juice, several handfuls of Drooble's Best Blowing Gum, a dozen packages of Cauldron Cakes, several Chocolate Frogs, and seven bags of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. She deliberately avoided the Licorice Wands as she fished for her wallet from the pocket of her puce cotton dress (17 Sickles and 90 knuts was a steep price, but she was now thinking with her stomach) before finally sliding her haul into the mokeskin pouch she begged Father to buy for her.

Walking back to her empty compartment, she slumped into the seat and shook the pouch upside down, letting the sweets litter the table in front of her. She then realized that eating a mountain of sweets without anyone to share it with was a sorry sight...

Elodie stumbled a bit as she stood, her knuckles going white as she clutched her trunk, a plain brown thing that had barely been able to contain the supplies she'd been instructed to bring. She nibbled at her cuticles, wandering through the train and trembling with a mixture of fear and excitement. She had no wizard money, no understanding of magic. In fact, her head was still spinning at the existence of such a wonderous thing. Yet here she was, her brand-new wand in the pocket of her robes.

Elodie had been kicked out of the compartment she'd originally opted to sit in, her face still flushed with embarrassment at the harsh words that had been flung her way. Plain robes, messy hair. And a word, one she'd never heard, but was certain was an insult.

Mudblood.

It made her shudder, that word. Oh, how she hated not understanding this world. She'd been raised by a muggle mother without a father, blissfully unaware of how the world truly worked. She poked her head into a compartment, blinking at the sight of Noa-Elise and balking at the huge pile of candy. Yet another reminder of how out-of-place she was, the magical sweets that greatly confused her, taunting her with their wonderous scents. She had not a single.... What was it? Galleon. Elodie looked down, fiddling with the edge of her robe with one hand, clutching her trunk with the other.

"Uhm.... May I sit here?"

"But that's just the trouble with me. I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it."

Rianna had stood for a while looking out towards the crowd of parents waving and smiling and crying, before the train took of and left them behind.
She had regretted now asking her mum to not wait untill the train was driving, but she didnt want to wave and wave and have to think about how long it would be before they saw eachother again.
Now she was making her way through the train, humming softly, chin held high.
Her mum had been so excited when they got the letter, and she had too!
It was prove that allthe bedtime stories her mom would tell her about the world of her dad was true!
And she would show the whole world that she was indeed a witch as the letter said!

She had been a bit too long to find a compartment, and most of them were already full of talking students, and she was secretly relieved when she found one where there were only two girls. One of them was already sitting, and as Rianna walked into it she heard the other girl ask "Uhm... May I sit here?". She stopped, in the door, waiting for the answer. She assumed that if it was a no, it would be a no for both of them.

Rianna May!!

"Uhm.... May I sit here?"

Noa-Elise looked up with a start and saw a girl about her age with wild brown hair with curious blonde streaks on it and round wire-framed glasses. The girl looked hesitant; nervous even that Noa-Elise could feel her nervousness roll in waves from where she was standing.

Realizing that she was still waiting for her answer, Noa-Elise offered an easy smile and nodded to an empty seat opposite hers.

"Of course! Just bought some food to pass the time before we get to Hogwarts. Quite famished you see, I s'posed our house-elf knew how my body works more than me" she chuckled to herself.

Before the bespeckled girl could answer, another girl seemed to pop out of nowhere, watching their interaction with curiosity in her eyes.

"Want to have a seat too?" she asked. It was with much luck that she was able to have two people wander to her compartment, making her realize that she truly craved some company. Maybe it was because she was so used to being surrounded by other kids or even chatting with the portraits in their home, and even tailing Mitzy during long afternoons. She remembered Mrs. Lemieux asking Mother if she'd let Noa-Elise attend Beauxbatons instead with Felix.

Noa-Elise winced at the thought of having to spend an entire year with Felix running around causing mischief. No doubt he will find a way to involve her in his troublemaking.

Elodie blinked, nodding politely and moving to sit in the compartment, placing her trunk at her feet. "uhm, thank you. Ah.... What's a house elf?" The words were unfamiliar on her tongue, her eyes flashing with curiosity. "I must sound silly, sorry. My mum isn't a... witch." Elodie was hesitant to admit this, biting her lip as she waited for a reaction from the other girls. "I'm a first year, you see. I didn't even know magic existed until I got my letter." She huffed out a laugh. "I didn't even believe it at first."

Elodie reached into the pocket of her robes to fiddle nervously with her wand, resisting the urge to nibble at her nails anxiously. She looked at the other strange girl, adjusting her glasses before taking a deep breath. "My name's Elodie. Elodie Norman." As she said this, she shifted in the seat, tugging at a stray strand of hair before freezing. Her mother hated when she did that, and the thought saddened her. What was her mother doing now, far from their cozy cottage in Wales, alone with Elodie's four-year-old sister.

Her sister....

She'd miss Poppy's birthday. She wouldn't see her half-sister grow up, only being home during the summer and holidays. The thought sent another wave of sadness crashing over her, before she shook it off. She was finally free from the tiny village where she'd never truly belonged, finally free of the bullies and loneliness.

"But that's just the trouble with me. I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it."

Noa-Elise smiled as the girl with the glasses moved to the seat with her trunk in hand, the other girl still shadowing just outside the carriage. She didn't make a move to talk or come in so Noa-Elise turned her attention to her new carriagemate.

"Uhm, thank you. Ah... What's a house elf?" the new girl asked, "I must sound silly, sorry. My mum isn't a... witch."

The Forsythe girl tilted her head to the side for a bit, eyes widening at her revelation. A half-blood? No, it would mean her dad was a wizard but she said she didn't know what a house-elf was. It would most likely mean she's a-

"I'm a first-year, you see. I didn't even know magic existed until I got my letter." She huffed out a laugh. "I didn't even believe it at first."

She introduced herself as Elodie Norman, playing with a strand of her hair before she suddenly stopped her actions and winced. An odd reaction, Noa-Elise mused before she realized that Elodie looked morose for some reason.

She wanted to comfort the girl but she didn't want to overstep her boundaries, especially when they just met. So she elected to keep the conversation light and make her feel comfortable with the best solution of all. Sweets.

"It's nice to meet your acquaintance Elodie" she replied, "I'm Noa-Elise Forsythe. Though you can call me Noa for short. I'm a first year too so we'll be classmates, I think. I haven't met a Muggle-born before but I'm pretty sure you'll easily fit in at Hogwarts, definitely far better than I can get used to Muggle London."

The memories of Father bringing her to a Farmer's Market on a Sunday, the most precious day in Noa-Elise's opinion as she could sleep in and have playdates with her childhood friends, was certainly a memory that will stick in her brain. It was loud with the terrible sound that came out of those metal death traps Muggles use for transportation, stuffy, and horribly inconvenient. She had almost gotten lost when a crowd of nattering old ladies just walked between her and Father (who was busy counting out the paper Muggle money) and a man whom she swore was a ghoul by the way he was prowling by a dark alleyway with his dirty clothes and bloodshot eyes.

Without hesitation, she retrieved her mokeskin pouch to fish out her photo of Mitzy and showed it to Elodie. Noa-Elise looked on fondly at the waving house-elf, shyly shifting her large eyes and her nimble hands fiddling on the apron of the purple toddler-sized dress Father had gifted for her last Christmas.

"Mitzy is our house-elf. She's employed, not to worry. Father says she gets paid and has day-offs and other sorts of stuff free elves get to do. She's been with my mother ever since she was young; cooking and cleaning our home and sometimes running errands and helping mother with her gardening. Do Muggles have their own kind of house-elves?" she asked, unable to hide the excitement in her voice.

As if bribing Elodie to share a piece of very important information, she pushed several packets of bubblegum, the bags of flavored beans, and a stack of Cauldron Cake for good measure.

Elodie's eyes widened. "Ah, no. Normally I just clean myself. My mother's usually too busy running her pub or taking care of my half-sister." She blinked at the picture of the house-elf, doing her best not to gape at her appearance. Her eyes darted to the sweets, and she hesitated.

"Honestly, I have no idea what I am. I.... Never knew my father, so I suppose I'll never know for sure." Elodie looked down with a look of melancholy before brightening. "I've never met a witch. What was it like, growing up with magic?"

She studied the girl before her before her gaze fixed on the candy once again. Her family had never been able to afford sweets, living in a tiny cottage in a tiny, nameless village. Elodie had never felt uncomfortable about this before, for everyone in her village lived this way. Now, though, as she gawked at the sheer amount of calories that lay on the table, she felt her cheeks grow warm.

Elodie had hated living in that village. She loved her family, loved the small garden she kept behind the cottage, loved the rolling hills she'd spend hours lying on and watching the clouds. But..... It had never felt like home. The village children had endlessly mocked her for her odd behavior, leaving her to take comfort in the animals that dwelled there.

Samuel walked the train, darting his eyes around as he took his luggage with. Embarrassment seemed to fill him, as he had, well, absolutely embarrassed himself. Of course, how would he know that some wizards are against muggle-borns, or even just snotty people. He had been silent for quite a while in his existing compartment, and only when he had spoken up he had openly expressed he had no clue what was in store for him- Which led to a somewhat arguement and being kicked out by vote. Which left him to scavenge the remaining compartments for some empty space he could squish himself into and hopefully not intrude.

Of course, that was practically impossible. At the beginning of the trip, people seemed to go with their friends or shove themselves into an area, end up chatting, and become friends. Sam needed a spot, but most places were full of chatting newcomers who probably knew more about this school then he did. He hustled through, looking into the compartments before eventually.. he had found one.

"Hey, Could i join your uh, thingy. I kinda got booted from mine." Sam awkwardly chuckled to the two girls in the cart after some.. words of encouragement. He was an awkward person, and didnt really know the best way to talk to people most of the time. But, he had to try, especially if he wanted to get a spot and not get stuck in the corodor for the rest of the trip.

Noa-Elise tapped her chin thoughtfully, musing on Elodie's question. What IS it like growing up with magic? She had never thought about it, with magic being part of her life even before she was born. Gingerly, she took one of the bags of beans and nicked a glossy dark-colored bean, hoping it was just a deep shade of purple before popping it into her mouth and quickly wanting to spit it back out.

Licorice

Not wanting to look rude in front of Elodie, she bravely swallowed it whole and absent-mindedly grabbed for a different one. "Well," she started "I would say that magic's normal for me like 'ektricity' is for Muggles. My parents are both pure-blood but Father is quite fond of them and their culture. They sometimes use spells for their work; Father has a seat in Wizengamot while Mother is an Obliviator. If she had extra time, she would go to St. Mungo's as a Healer. St. Mungo's is a hospital for witches and wizards" she added, remembering that Elodie might not know what St. Mungo's was.

Noticing that Elodie was still staring at the packages, she gently moved a Cauldron Cake to Elodie and gave a smile, "You should try it. They're really nice! Father would sometimes sneak some into his office as a snack but his friend would find out and tattle on him. Mother isn't too big on sweets though, said that too much sugar gives her sugar-crash and it's not ideal for an Obliviator-"

She was about to explain what the Wizengamot and Obliviator were before she realized she was talking about herself most of the conversation. It made her cheeks heat up, it was a habit she had (at least that was what Felix Lemieux once said) before clearing her throat.

"Oh, you mentioned that you have a half-sister and your mum has a pub! What was your home like?" she asked enthusiastically, carefully avoiding the part where she stated she never knew her father. It's a touchy subject and Noa-Elise can't even fathom not even seeing or writing to Father for more than a few days.

"Hey, Could I join your uh, thingy. I kinda got booted from mine."

She quickly looked to the side and saw a boy with messy black hair standing by the doors of the compartment with his luggage at hand, kind of like Elodie's previous position. He looked tired, at least, from Noa-Elise's perspective as his eyes looked glazed and his shoulders slumped. Without hesitating, she nodded and gestured to the empty spaces beside Elodie and herself.

"Sure, plenty to go around!" With a laugh, she tilted her head towards the heap she now dubbed as Sweets Mountain, "You can get some of these as well. I doubt we even made a dent."

Elodie offered up the newcomer a shy smiling as she reached for a cauldron cake, fiddling with its packaging thoughtfully. "Well.... I live with my sister, mother, and my dog. Both my sister and my mother are blond with blue eyes, and my dog's a beagle named Sir Barkington. I've had him for as long as I've lived, I think he's.... twelve, now? My sister is named Poppy, she's four and super cute!"

She sighed. "Our home was... small, I guess. But super comfortable! My village was pretty rural, so there were all these cute farm animals I liked to play with when Sir Barkington wasn't feeling up to it!" Elodie tugged open the package, extracting the small cake carefully and staring at it. "As for electricity, we only had the basics. Not many people where I lived could afford it."

The girl paused to take a hesitant bite, her eyes lighting up at the taste. "My mother runs a pub right across from my house, and it's the only one in town, which means she gets lots of patrons. I help her run it sometimes, when things get busy. I'd clean tables and serve food while she dealt with taking orders and the alcoholic stuff."

"It was a great place to pick up on the latest gossip in town." Elodi took another bite of her cauldron cake, closing her eyes and humming with pleasure. "We told everyone in the village that I was going to boarding school, and I convinced this lady who used to babysit me to help my mama out at the pub while I'm gone."

"But that's just the trouble with me. I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it."
