Just leaving
I stood before Platform 9 3/4, my heart pounding like a drumroll at a parade. The crisp autumn air seemed to buzz with anticipation as if every fiber of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry couldn't wait to welcome me into its ancient embrace. The platform thrummed with life, students and their families darting among the sea of trunks and owls, their robes billowing in the wind like proud flags.
My mother, Millicent, stood by my side, her eyes shimmering with a mix of pride and motherly concern. She wrapped her arms around me in a tight embrace, her voice soft yet firm. "You'll do amazing, Ivy," she murmured, her voice like a gentle melody. "No matter which house you end up in, you'll shine."
My little sister, Tyra, tugged at my robe, her eyes so full of awe you'd think she was seeing a unicorn do backflips. "Ivy, you're going to be the best witch ever, I just know it!" she exclaimed, her excitement palpable.
I mustered a smile, attempting to quell the butterflies swirling within me. "Thanks, Tyra," I replied, my voice trembling like a leaf in an autumn breeze. "I hope so. I'll miss you both."
As the Hogwarts Express stood idling nearby, its engine hissing and releasing clouds of steam that danced playfully in the air, I could feel my anxiety building. What if I didn't fit in? What if I didn't make any friends? A torrent of doubts rushed through my mind, threatening to drown the spark of excitement that had brought me here.
But as the train whistle blasted through the platform, I took a deep breath, squeezing my mother's hand. "Here goes nothing," I muttered, determination settling in. The pulsating excitement of starting this new chapter mingled with my nerves, the very essence of my coming of age.
With my heart racing like a Snitch in a Quidditch match, I took my first step onto the crimson Hogwarts Express and into the unknown, leaving behind the safety of home and embarking on a journey that would shape the rest of my magical life.
