The Chosen One Pet

akina shivered from the cool breeze as she stalked through diagon alley, telling herself that inside the magical menagerie it would be warm. she walked a few more feet until the sign of the shop came into view. akina picked up her pace, which turned into a slight run as she reached her destination. she looked through the misty window, which her breath immediately fogged up. she wiped it off, her heart beating faster as she hoped the store was still open. with a jolt, she realized the menagerie had some lights on, with the animals inside still making noise that still could be heard from outside of the store. she pushed the oak door and at once warmth enveloped her in a hug, practically feeling the heat rush through her body. a bell jingled, signaling her presence, and a kind looking young man waved at her from behind the long wooden desk. akina started to look around, feeling his intent yet warm gaze still on her. akina found a cute, soft, white-furred cat. akina's mother had taught her which pet would be the best for her. you would have to put your hand out, and the one that retreated wouldn't be the right one for you. akina knew this because her mother had taught her when they were looking for a goldfish. she had wanted a cat all her life, but her mother didn't want something that roamed around the house. akina disagreed. she wanted the opposite. a loud, funny, and enjoyable pet. not a quiet, boring, unenjoyable fish. tears started picking at her eyes because of her emotional state of nostalgia, and she forced them back, not wanting to seem sad and delicate to these pets. akina wiped her hands on her jeans and slowly put her hand in front of the white cat. it didnt even sniff it, as it ran to the back of its cage and was glued to the wall. akina's heart sank. white cat's were adorable, but if they weren't made for each other it wouldn't work. akina moved on, and time passed as she tested each of the other cats. finally, it was the last one, and akina's heart was breaking. all of the cats had either bit her or ran away from her. this cat was her last hope. akina stuck out her weak hand, and the bengal actually sniffed it. akina's heart raced and lifted with joy as the bengal swiped its tongue across her hand. akina lightly grasped the cat and took it over to the counter, where the worker smiled and asked "so this the chosen one?" akina nodded, and the cat pawed at her face, exploring her facial features. the worker's nametag flashed his name, ernest wicker. akina looked at it for a bit. ernest asked, "what are you going to name it?" akina smiled. "dawn," she whispered. she had been thinking about it for weeks. ernest asked for payment, and akina gave him her 18 galleons. she practically skipped out of the shop and sat down on the steps. she and dawn watched the rising sun together, knowing that the next few years would be filled of a friendship full of happiness and love.
