Surprise, Surpri- aAH
Backdated: October 11th
@Logan Baird
It was a tragedy, the boy had realized, a downright tragedy that he and Logan hadn’t hung out recently in the last few weeks! Like really hanging out. Just the 2 of them, with no homework in the way or annoying surprise ‘guests’ to eavesdrop and interrupt. Talking in the halls or during meals didn’t really count, neither did spending time together in class or whenever the joys of friendship were tainted by homework or any type of practice.
He wanted to actually hang out with Queenie. A day for fun and chatting and stupid arguments and most importantly no work.
It’d been a double tragedy, a crime really, but one that’d given him a perfect idea when he’d realized he’d yet to show the Hufflepuff his most recent amazing purchase. The unfoldable couch had nothing on this because he’d bought a tent, but not just any tent, the Majesto Tent 500! It was like the perfect hideaway. A secret fort in tent form and he’d forgotten to show Queenie!
Of course that was a mistake he had to fix asap and had promptly cornered his friend as a partner in potions to demand that they hang out after classes with all the solemn dramatics he could muster because-
“I wanna show you something cool and I’ll cry if we don’t hang out.”
Said classes had barely ended 10 minutes ago but it’d been enough time for the boy to set up the surprise outside. Tucked between some shadows cast by Hogwarts stone walls and a bit of surrounding trees and bushes slowly losing their leaves and dusting the ground in dead leaves and slowly dwindling grass. Safe from prying eyes as he wandered off to hunt down his friend by the castle's main entrance, their meeting spot.
He yawned, shrugging off the tired slump of his shoulders when he caught sight of his friend. Raising his hand in a wave to catch her attention. “Hi Queenie~” He was already feeling a bit drained from the effort of running back and forth but even that couldn’t dampen his obviously pleased mood. “You’ll never guess what I got this time.” He grinned, elbowing her playfully with a lazy wave of the hand towards the right direction. “It’s even better than the portable couch.”
Granted the portable couch was impressive and would always hold a special place in his heart.
“C’mon, before we get any tagalongs.” Unwanted tagalongs to be precise. Like nosy teammates or annoying cousins.
Linking arms the boy began to lead the way at a decent pace; the cool air whipping around them and leaves crunching under his feet as he dragged his friend around the bend to the far side of the castle between trees and bushes and out of sight. It was only then that he slowed to his usual relaxed pace, loosening his grip to allow the others arm to slip free if she wished or remain loosely linked as they wandered forward.
“It's been ages since we got away to hang out,” Elsian groaned dramatically, bumping into Logans side. “All those stupid OWLs to study for, and practice, I can hardly fit a quick nap during class these days!”
“What about you though?” A step over a root, shoes kicking a stray rock. “Has your cousin done anything stupid yet? Any plans for revenge made to look like a horrible accident?” He teased.

Surprise, Surpri- aAH
@Elsian Cox
Logan was honestly disappointed that she had not gotten to spend as much time with one of her only friends. Sure, they occasionally got to hang out for homework or practice, but to the Hufflepuff it seemed that the two of them were just slowly moving on with their lives. The girl had not even gotten to show him her next greatest achievement, mostly because she had not been able to find the right time to tell him she had become an animagi. She had even managed to sleep through the ball, not normally the one in the pair to sleep through things, and did not get to enjoy that night too much. She was not too disappointed though, as it had turned into a great night's rest.
What the brunette had not expected was to be cornered and told that they needed to hang out after potions. It had honestly surprised Logan a bit, it should not have but it did. That is how the short girl found herself waiting at the entrance to the castle, leaning against the chilled stones with a soft expression on her face. She was not going to turn down some time to hang out with Elsi. "Hello Elsi," she waved back as the boy approached her, flinching slightly at the playful elbow to her side. Glancing at the direction her friend waved them to, she raised an eyebrow in question. "I did not think there was anything that could be better than your portable couch. Is it really that much better, or are you just trying to lure me into the woods to cover me in glitter and slime?" She questioned. Honestly either of those things could happen at this point.
Quickly she followed the boy, not wanting her cousin to somehow find a way to join in the on the little group. It would be a shame, but she was also not afraid to punch the boy again to get him to leave her alone, even if it ended with her getting detention. She listened to the crunch of the leaves under their shoes, slowing her pace as she released Elsi's arm. She walked almost even with the boy, just the slightest bit behind. "It is a shame we have not spent too much time together. I have actually thought about leaving dueling. With the OWLS this year, and Clark causing me a headache every moment he can get, I feel like my grades are slipping." Glancing up at the sky, Logan slowed a bit more. "The very day we returned, he filled my bed with itching powder. I have absolutely no idea where he got it from but it was days before I was finally able to feel like I wasn't going to scratch my arms off. Sadly, no revenge plans though. I don't even know if his useless father reprimanded him."
With a huff, the girl stopped for a moment and took a deep breath before opening her eyes and walking forward again. "How have you been, genuinely Elsi? I feel like we never actually get to talk like this. Anything interesting happen recently, how was the ball?"
Below is the solo I wrote of Logan sleeping through the ball...oops

Logan's plans for the evening had been simple, get dressed, go to the ball, and hopefully find someone to hang out with before coming back to her room and crashing for the night. Those plans never happened though, she had actually managed to the end without doing anything in the middle, she hadn't even gotten her dress on. Instead silence surrounded the girl, her dress was hanging from the end of her bed, makeup sitting on her trunk, and shoes set at the foot of her bed. Logan on the other hand was sprawled across her bed, nearly silent snores occasionally leaving the girl's mouth.
The Hufflepuff told herself she was going to sit on her bed and read the first chapter of her new book before getting ready, allowing herself to relax before the chaos that was the average Hogwarts ball. She had pulled the curtains closed around her bed, and only 15 pages later Logan was out like a light. Her brunette hair was sprawled across her pillow, slight glimpses of silver visible form where she had put ribbons in her hair. Her book laid open across her chest, moving with the rising and fall of every breath. Logan was probably going to regret sleeping through the ball in the morning, but she never fully enjoyed the events anyway. Honestly it was giving her the perfect opportunity to catch up on sleep that she did not even need. At least she was sleeping well though, dreams full of adventures and creatures.

Surprise, Surpri- aAH
@Logan Baird
He nodded seriously, as if treating Logan's words like an impossibility come to life. “Hard to believe I know. The couch is impressive but,” shrugged with a careless little huff of laughter, eyes on the nature surrounding and making a weak gesture to the trees, “no glitter or slime this time. I actually did find something better!”
“Besides…” he trailed off, half jokingly. “I’m outta slime right now.”
Sadly. He’d need to make more one of these days, but not now, not for a while he thought. He hadn’t been in much of a mood for jokes this week, mainly sleep. Sleep whenever he could between all the horrible responsibilities they all seemed to have now. “Yeah, I miss when we were 1st years, I’d even settle for 2nd year.” He sighed, face pinching into a pained look as if the knowledge of someone pranking a perfectly good bed physically pained him. “And you still don’t have any new revenge plans? Let me know if you need an alibi.”
There was a brief silence, a pause between when Logan stopped walking and Elsian realized his friend wasn’t at his side. Pausing, leaves crunching under his feet he craned his neck to look back.
It felt odd being asked that and realizing just how much he had to tell the other. Odd… but comfortable.
Logan always had that effect. For him at least. It made it all the more gutting that she was right, they never got to talk like this, at least recently. Elsian felt like part of that was his fault, but it was also nice that Logan had never seemed to mind that he was like this, sometimes just gone, getting lost in his own world before wandering back as if nothing had happened. As if no time had passed and they’d just seen each other yesterday. At least, that's how it felt to him.
“Tired.” It might have seemed like an obvious answer. Oh the boy who slept like the dead and took constant naps throughout the day, tired? Shocker! But it was true, he was tired. It wasn’t his normal sleepy fits either, he could tell that much. He was busier than ever, more tired, more stressed over everything like work, studying and practice, but also nothing at all. But he couldn’t begin to put it into words, so he didn’t.
“And sore.” A hand lifted up, 2 fingers tapping against his cheek as he began to list off things. “I still can’t believe I got suckered into Quidditch, I hate the training. I’m always so sore after and I can’t even skip out in peace because I’ve got the most annoying dormmate ever, Finnegan, who happens to also be on the team.” A part of him couldn’t help but feel bitter about the whole thing. But nooo, he’d just had to feel guilty and weird about Gryffindor struggling to find members when some of the old ones had to drop out. It wasn't his fault. He hadn't thought he'd actually make the team!
“He’s the absolute worst.” He grumped, pausing to lean against a tree with an annoyed look. It was as if the very thought of what he was about to say was so upsetting he had to actually stop and take a breath before continuing. “Did I ever tell you how he keeps going through my stuff and stealing my clothes? Because he does!” He threw his hands up into the air, fondly exasperated but maybe, just maybe sounding damn near fond. Like one might when talking about an annoying, feral goose that stole your sandwich but also did so in a hilarious way you couldn’t help but begrudgingly respect.
That's what Finn was.
An annoying, feral funny looking Goose.
“I swear the Bludger Head has a death wish cause he keeps wearing my sweaters and tries to mess with my blankets and pillows. My pillows Queenie. My pillows! Merlin give me strength because one of these days I might actually kill him and you’ll have to visit me in Azkaban.”
“But it’s fine. I’ll just bedazzle his stuff pink, he hates it.” Jokingly he added, “I plan on trying to take his whole trunk and bedazzle that, wanna help?”
Her helping that is, he actually intended to bedazzle Finnegans things. Granted, he would not turn away the help. They could share revenge plans and make a revenge wall in the tent while bedazzling and eating snacks.
Head tilting in thought he hummed, thinking. She was likely talking about the newest one, the one he’d taken Feathers to in their Rapunzel themed outfits for silly fun but as he thought about it the only thing that he could think about was Spring Ball last year and how Dorion had looked, bringing about the thoughts of everything that’d been happening, from the dance, sneaking out and the lonely, fondness twisting in his chest-
He pushed off the tree, fighting to keep a blush down as he quickly looked away from Logan. Embarrassment and something else he couldn’t place, refused to accept, refused to acknowledge, making him feel flustered. “It was fine.” He choked out, finally beginning to walk again as he led the way towards the tent. Pointedly he avoided looking Logan in the eyes, ears burning as the boy tried not to dwell on a certain Creampuff…He was a poor liar in this sadly.
Both to himself and others.
“Normal as, um, a Hogwarts dance can be. What about you? I don’t think I saw you.”
