Gowns Galore

Madison and her mother Victoria had just arrived by Flo Powder to Diagon Alley. Madison's mother had coaxed her older brother James and her dad Atticus to come along with them too, as Madison was there for the final fitting of her formal Christmas outfits, the ones she'll wear to the events that her mother takes her too. James grumbled as he, and their dad Atticus, already had their suits but Victoria insisted that they all come for Madison to get her dresses.
As Madison enters Madam Malkin, the shopkeeper greets them warmly and has Madison step up onto a platform so that they can have her try on the dresses and also in case they need to make final alterations. Madison had barely been on the platform for five minutes, when her mother started fussing over her posture and complained that the dresses weren't right. Madison smiled as her dad tried to calm Victoria down, which thankfully ended in her reluctantly taking a seat next to Atticus.
As Madison was waiting to try on her first dress, another girl and her family came into the shop. Her mother seemed to recognise the girls father, since she greeted him quite warmly. Madison smiled to herself, knowing her mother would be more engrossed talking to the girls parents, and therefore not fussing over her.
The girl who came in with her family seemed younger than Madison, most likely a first year, but there was something familiar about her. No sooner had Madison smiled at the girl, then the seamstress came over with her first dress. The curtain was soon drawn, as to not have her whole body on show for all Diagon Alley to see.
Once Madison was in the first dress, which was a beautiful dark green dress, Madison felt her mother come over and tapped her foot, "Oh Madison, are you sure you like this dress enough? Is it too tight? Too showy maybe? You look decent in it I suppose, though straighten your back and hold yourself higher Madison, don't slouch" Victoria says and Madison does as she tells her to before looking at herself in the mirror. She liked the dress and the way it hugged her body, though her mother nagging and stressing over her was making her frustrated, she didn't want to cause a scene, in case the people her mother was talking to, where important people from the Ministry.
"I like it mother, a lot, I think it suits me nicely and will do well for some of the more formal events, though I have two ball dresses to try on, plus another dress too. But I do really like this one" Madison says and her mother, pleased enough with her answer, goes back to talk with the other girls father again.
Madison smiled at the other girl again, "My mother already said my name, but I'm Madison Bennett. I just hope she doesn't fuss over me like this for the next three dresses, it makes dress shopping a lot less enjoyable" Madison says, giggling a little since she knew that the opposite was going to happen.

August 14th 23-------------- Gowns Galore ------- -------Madam Malkin's-------
------- ------- Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e------- -------
It appeared no matter how often a young Remedy would tread upon Diagon Alley's busy streets, the girl would always find herself captivated by the ambiance and the scents.
Her countenance filled with delight as she snaked past her parents, curious darkened orbs memorized by the happenings inside each storefront. The raven-haired girl had been surrounded by magic all her life, yet there was a certain charm that radiated throughout Diagon Alley, and its busybodies equally as fascinating. Remedy's mother, Hyacinth, would occasionally reach for Remedy's hand as narrow paths grew congested. Occasionally there was a murmur passed amongst the crowds as some may have recognized the members of the ultra-class as they graced the dusty allies, interest sparking amongst them possibly for a variety of different reasons.
Pivoting their direction towards one Madam Malkin's upon the congested street, a bell above head chirped and signaled their arrival as the bright maroon wooden door slowly swung open by her father's hand. The shopkeeper would greet them in a faux sing-songy tone prompting an eye roll to spark from the caustic Remedy, only for her mother, Hyacinth, to swat her gently with a copy of The Daily Prophet and lend her daughter a hardened gaze. The girl sighed in a silent defeat before dragging her darkened orbs away from her mother, slinking around the shop for a gowns. There was another family being attended upon by the shopkeeper, but Remedy couldn't quite pinpoint who the adults lingering were nor why there was a glimmer of familiarity. With typical modesty, her parents and mother promptly started the conversation with the woman; it wasn't until the curtain revealed an older girl that the fractured pieces had aligned on their identities.
A blonde-haired beauty donning a verdant dress captivated the room's attention; Remedy's mouth fell open in awe before furrowing her brow at the exasperating remarks stemming from this Madison's mother. Merlin, was the Remedy privileged to not have a croaking mother like that. Remedy's hand pried a similar toned dress from the rack before being ushered onto the platform by the shop-owner. As Remedy approached the platform near Madison, the older girl had uttered a message that brought a smile onto Remedy's red-tainted lips.
"Norden; Remedy Norden," the raven-haired girl replied before holding up her dress to avoid the bottom getting dragged as she stepped upon the platform, "I can only imagine how...troubling such an experience can become,"
The curtain closed as Remedy removed herself of her attire before slipping into the verdant selection with ease; the girl would peel the crimson back to show off her gown. Hyacinth would strut over to the girls with an approving nod.
"This color suits you both." Hyacinth chimed in with her French accent, not bothering to flood her daughter with the very questions the other woman bombarded her daughter with. The woman extended a hand out to her daughter and spun her gently to admire the gown at all angles. "Do you like it, Rem?"
"Yes, mother," Remedy stated before turning to Madison with a passive smile, "What do you think? Should I go a shade darker?"

Madi smiled at Remedy and giggled, "Troubling? I think torturous is a better word to describe dress shopping with my mother" Madison said, before turning to look at the dress Remedy was wearing. The raven haired girl looked stunning in the dress she'd picked, the way it matched with her dark hair and made her eyes pop with colour, the girl definitely had good taste in dresses that's for sure, though with the family she was from, Madison wasn't surprised.
"I think it looks absolutely stunning on you and I don't think you need to go a shade darker, that colour really suits you, especially with your long dark hair. I think a red, slightly darker than the colour on your lips would look stunning on you, but luckily with my blonde hair and your dark hair, we suit most colours" Madison said with a smile, thanking the girls mother for her kind comment.
Once she'd decided that she wanted this dress, the seamstress brought out another dress that Madison was to wear, so once again the curtain was drawn, and once peeled back, Madison stood there in a Burgundy satin gown. It wasn't as sparkly as the green dress, however with the right necklace and hairpiece, it would be simply divine.
As Madison was admiring herself in the mirror, her mother once again, earning an eye roll and sigh from Madison, came over and started fussing, though, with a quick look at her dad, Madison was free of her mother and able to let the seamstress do what she needed to do. Madison turned to Remedy and smiled, "am I right in assuming that you're getting dresses for the upcoming Christmas season? I wore a dress to the event at the Fairfax Estate, but I can't wear again for a while, but it's always nice coming to Madam Malkin and feeling like a princess" Madi said with a giggle, doing a twirl in the dress to see how it moves and she even got her older brother to dance with her a little and the dress moved beautifully.
Madison giggled afterwards and stepped back onto the platform so the seamstress could make final adjustments to one of two the ball gowns Madison was going to pick up later on, in time for all the Christmas events that are cluttering the ultra class social calendar that Madison and her would go to, seeing as they were a very high class family with high social status and good connections too

August 14th 23-------------- Gowns Galore ------- -------Madam Malkin's-------
------- ------- Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e
Derrick & Hyacinth's Dialogue 796f4e------- -------
A quality sense of humour was oftentimes an underrated yet highly infrequent virtue.
The raven-haired girl's countenance curved into a passive smile at Madison's jest against her mother, but the sharp, lethal glare from her own mother shattered any evidence of amusement. Remedy snuck a humoured glance at Madison quickly when Hyacinth turned away to eavesdrop on her father's conversation, then grinned widely at Madison's comment. It wasn't often that a sincere smile would find Remedy's lips, yet it was only occasionally that one would reaffirm Remedy's beauty without the influence of fear or alluding to desire.
"Thank you, Madison," Remedy stated with rejuvenated confidence as her eyes fell onto the mirror, "I couldn't agree more."
Darkened orbs observed as the seamstress plucked two dresses from the racks. The woman would hand Miss Bennett a maroon gown, and Remedy's eyes lit with curiosity as an ebony satin gleamed in the light underneath. There was no doubt that Madison would look simply divine, but the ebony gown captivated her mind as Remedy's hands accepted the article from the ragged old woman. The curtain would be dulled, leaving Remedy in a darked space as she doffed her verdant gown and slipped into the darkened silk before carefully pulling matching satin gloves over her hands.
The curtain would be rapidly removed, revealing Remedy as her gloved hands pulled her hair in a feigned bun into the mirror before letting her dark hair fall back into its high ponytail. Pearls would look best for this dress, the girl would muse as she lightly grazed her collarbone with her fingertips.
Hearing Madison's words, Remedy peeled her gaze from the mirror and nodded: "We are hosting an event before the new academic year begins and an auction for Rhinelander Estate; otherwise, yes."
The mention of the Fairfax Estate brought on overwhelming memories of such magnificent socialites, but it also a remembrance of such event where Remedy would see her cousin and Madison dancing. The girl had almost questioned her prospective friend about one Avery Leveret, but recognized the mistake of uttering his name. Doing so would evoke her father's annoying and unending praise for the boy, a solemn reminder of the unreachable aims Remedy would be burdened with.
The thought would nearly boil her blood; it would only be a few weeks from now that Remedy would face her prodigal cousin daily. Such a somber reminder would stir the wolfish girl to balled fists and a furrowed brow, but she would attempt to conceal her anguish before it could be detected. For now, she'd admire her darkened silhouette, imagining a wand in her gloved hand while the seamstress tended to Madison's satin gown before making adjustments for Remedy's.
"It is such a shame a beautiful dress can only be worn once a season," Remedy remarked with a smirk, "How I do love my dark colors."

Madison smiled back at Remedy, "No worries at all Remedy, us girls have to stick together you know" she said with a soft giggle. Hearing Remedy talk about the event that her family were hosting, plus an action at Rhinelander Estate, Madison knew her mother would take her to those events, luckily she already had dresses for those, these dresses were specifically for the Christmas and New Year season.
As Madison saw Remedy in the ebony gown and matching gloves, she was glowing and both girls looked like stars, she knew that both of them would absolutely grace the pages of The Daily Prophet in the section that showcased the Ultra-Class events. "Wow Remedy, that dress looks absolutely divine on you" Madison says, as next, she tries on a hunter green ball gown which was full of sparkles. She twirled around in it and smiled, even finding secret pockets on both sides of the dress.
Her mother once again, came over and fussed over her gown, Madison by this point was over her mother's fussing, but thankfully, she got distracted by Remedys dad again and Madison looked at Remedy with an eye roll, doing an impression of her mother fussing over her dress and always talking, with a giggle, though silently to make sure that their mothers don't notice. "I told you torturous would better describe shopping with my mother" Madison said in a low voice so only Remedy could hear her, giggling softly with her after, before admiring herself in the dress once again.
Madison saw the reaction Remedy gav when she mentioned the Fairfax Event, however rather than continuing the conversation on that topic, Madison smiled and nodded at Remedy's remark that dresses could only be worn once a season, "I completely agree, although it has its advantages. One, it means our parents spend more money on us and two, it means we get to come here and buy heaps of new dresses" Madison said with a giggle.

August 14th 23-------------- Gowns Galore ------- -------Madam Malkin's-------
------- ------- Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e
Derrick & Hyacinth's Dialogue 796f4e------- -------
ADespite the apparent dissimilarities between debutantes, Remedy would find herself basking in Madison's flattery and grow insatiable for her blessing.
Each dress the seamstress would showcase broadly garnered a shake of the Remedy's head, yet an observant eye would glance intermittently in Madison's direction as though silently gauging the girl's opinion. A smile curved upon her lips as Madison had commented that girls had to stick together; her mother had often uttered the same adage, yet Remedy had trouble liking similar-aged individuals. Her parents had taken notice to the ravenette girl treading the solitary path, prompting the pair to routinely recite ancient anecdotes that highlighted the significance of friendship. While Remedy oftentimes reacted with disregard and disgust, the girl did appreciate their caring and attempts to pry Remedy of her dark shell.
The girl would comply with the demands of her parents to branch out, though oftentimes to no such avail. This wasn't an indication that Remedy was introverted; the daughter of the famous Norden's could garner a momentous following if such a desire emerged, yet seldom were worthy of Remedy's time and it was painstakingly clear. Falsely dubbing one as a friend was blasphemous in the young girl's eyes; she'd be lying to them, and even worst; to herself.
In Madison's comforting presence, however, Remedy would be relieved of her caustic demeanor. She felt free and like a princess, as the blonde haired girl previously remarked: "Thank you, Madison,"
Trotting back towards the girls, the seamstress would hand Madison a shimmering hunter green ball gown; it was obvious from the number of dress rejections that sparkles were not desirable in the young girl's taste, but there was zero reservations that Madison wouldn't look absolutely stunning. For Remedy, she would receive a navy blue gown with pearls beaded into the torso that shone in similarity to miniature moons casting against a darkened sky. The curtain would close encasing Remedy in darkness once more; the dress piqued her curiosity as her gloved fingertips maneuvered carefully around the beading.
At a closer observation, the dress had an intricate lace design and instantly dubbed as a favorite. She shimmied out of her ebony gown and pulled her gloves off carefully before slipping into the navy dress. Her eyes would be blinded by sunlight yet again as she found herself in the mirror, awe conquering her features as she admired both Madison and herself.
Madison shared a similar look before remarking about her mother once more. Speaking of parents, Derrick and Madison's family would be hitting it off. A screeching sound erupted from Madison's mother as an invitation to Remedy's home would be given the following day. They'd be given access to Rhinelander Estate, the very one that would be entering the market in the wintertime; Remedy shared a smile with Madison yet again.
"Is she house-trained?" Remedy joked, a passive smile touching her lips before relinquishing a chuckle. "Apologies. My father loves to entertain; it brings him back to his time in the limelight. I'll have to show you my collection tomorrow."

As Madison nodded to the green ball gown she had on, she kept shaking her head at the dresses the seamstress brought out for Remedy. Either this lady didn't know what Remedy liked based on the dresses she'd tried on, or she was just incompetent. When Madison saw Remedy in the navy blue gown, she smiled and nodded her head in approval, "Remedy, that dress looks gorgeous on you and no worries at all, both dresses really do look devine on you" Madison says with a smile.
However, as Madison and Remedy were admiring each of their individual dresses, Madison heard a noise that she only recognised as one coming from her mother. Madison shook her head and rolled her eyes towards Remedy again, reacting to the action of her mother. As Victoria came up to Madison, telling her that they had been invited for tea at Rhinelander Estate, Madison smiled at Remedy as well, before looking over at her dad and Remedy's, who seemed to be deep into a 'fathership', a term her own dad Atticus came up with, which he defined as a platonic relationship between two fathers. Madison smiled, thinking that it was cute how well they were getting along.
Once her mother had gone back to where the other parents were, Madison giggled at Remedy's comment, "I'm not too sure, i'd have to double check with dad to see if she's up to date with her training" Madison says in reply, giggling again at the comment made by Remedy. "Oh no worries at all, my mother will take any excuse to dress up for both herself and me, and of course my brother and dad get dragged into it too, though with the way our dads are getting along, I think they'll be ok" Madison said, building on what she had said earlier.
The seamstress came up to Madison with one last dress, one that was very different to her other dresses. The curtain was drawn and Madison stepped out of the hunter green ball gown, putting on the final dress. Once the curtain came back, and Madison saw herself in the mirror, even she was shocked at how good she looked in the dress. It was rose gold in colour and very figure hugging, accentuating Madison's fit and well toned figure, making Madison feel beautiful like she had done in every other dress she had tried on. She looked at Remedy, who seemed to almost be speechless, and smiled at her, "wow, this one is gorgeous. All the ones I tried on are but this one is just, wow" Madison said, giggling at the fact that even she was speechless with how good she looked in this dress, looking at Remedy too and smiling at her, despite her mother fussing yet again which, by this point, Madison was just sick of, the knowledge of which could easily be seen in her facial expressions.
As the curtain drew around Madison once more, she got out of the rose gold dress and got changed back into the clothes she was wearing when she got dressed this morning. Once she was dressed and the curtain came back, Madison stepped down from the platform, as the Seamstress told her that the dresses would arrive at her home by post in a week or two. Madison thanked her and, as her dad paid for her dresses, the rest of both family parties stood outside the shop. Madison turned to Remedy, as they both stood a little distance away from the parents, and smiled at her, "I'll see tomorrow then Remedy, I can't wait to see that collection of yours and, of course, I'm sure we'll see each other around school and at many events in the next few months" Madison said, turning to see her mother fussing over her older brother James. She was now standing beside Remedy and giggled with her, speaking in a low voice, "I'm just glad she's not still fussing over me. I love her but goodness me it's like she has nothing better to do" Madison said, shaking her head as her mother tried to fix her brothers hair, something everyone in their family knew not to do. James was very particular about his hair and hated anyone, especially their mother, touching it.
With final goodbyes said and timing clarified for tomorrow, Madison smiled at Remedy once more, before herself, and her family, walked down Diagon Alley, because her older brother needed to get some things for school that he'd run out of. As they continued shopping, Madison smiled to herself, excited to spend more time socialising with Remedy tomorrow, hoping that it will be just as good as the time they had together today.

August 14th 23-------------- Gowns Galore ------- -------Madam Malkin's-------
------- ------- Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e
Derrick & Hyacinth's Dialogue 796f4e------- -------
It was apparent that some familiarity existed between the Bennett's and the Norden's, and yet the families' discourse was at its greatest in this particular meeting.
Perhaps the cause deriving from the absence of formalities, or better yet; crowds. Just two affluent ultra-class members purchasing gowns for their daughters; appeared plausible enough, right? Remedy internally begged to uncover if this chance encounter was mere coincidence or staged by her parents to pry their daughter from her darkened shell. The raven-haired girl had a penchant for keeping her circles tightly wound, unwilling to accept anyone without proper justification. This Madison held promise, sure; it was too early to tell, but something about Madison lowered Remedy's guard.
"Thank you, Madison," Remedy replied with a passive smile as the girl slowly twirled her frame in the mirror. Her brown orbs landed upon Hyacinth, who shared a grin followed by a curt nod of approval midst her listening to Mrs. Bennett's speech. Her mother would then reconnect eye contact with the adults, nodding along before engaging in the conversation when an opening was exploited. Before Remedy could speak further to her new prospective friend, Mrs. Bennett broke away from the group and shared words with Madison about their invitation to Rhinelander Estate. Remedy had spoken abruptly about Mrs. Bennett's house-training as the woman waltzed off, but Madison shared her own jokeish retort.
Internally relieved, a smile curled upon her lips as she relinquished a chuckle: "They're getting along swimmingly, but my parents have always been told that they're most excellent of hosts."
Pulling the curtain back, Remedy reentered the darkness and shimmied out of her navy gown carefully. She'd place the gown back onto a hook inside the changing platform before retrieving her sweater and sliding back into her ebony skirt. The girl would pull back the curtain and tread down the creaking wooden steps carefully in time to catch a glimpse of Madison donning a sparkling rose gold dress. To no surprise, Madison shimmered like a goddess and looked radiant, as she had in all the other gowns. A grin touched her lips as words couldn't come out aside from a "wow." Even Hyacinth would tear herself away from the conversation to announce her approval of Madison's dress selection, despite Mrs. Bennett's nagging disapproval of it.
Remedy's eyes would roll in annoyance with Mrs. Bennett before meeting her father's, who had just purchased the gowns, all the while conversing enthusiastically with Mr. Bennett and Madison's brother. The girl avoided heeding the details of the conversation, but it likely dealt with wizarding sports as that was Remedy's father's professional expertise. The squeal of the curtain rod would signal Madison had changed into her previous attire and readied herself to depart from Madam Malkin's.
"I can't wait," Remedy replied with a smile. Though her words sounded sincere, truthfully, the girl still held some minor hesitations over the prospect of a new friend. Sure, Remedy was thrilled at a second meeting, but it was not often one would be worthy of her time and attention; was Madison truly different?
The girl leaned inward to catch Madison's words, a cackle escaping her lips in reply as she covered her smile with her hand.
"I guess I have to stop complaining about my mother after all," Remedy joked in reply. As the two families departed the store in an array of conversation, laughter, and farewells between the adults that caught the eyes of passersby's of Diagon Alley, Remedy chirped to Madison, "I'll see you tomorrow!"
Turning in the opposite direction, the family would depart from the alley to prepare Rhinelander Estate for its first showing of many.
