Date: Thursday 19th October
Time: not long after noon
Location: The Abandoned Toilets

Of course the first thing Leaf wanted to do after settling in this school was to go exploring. And by coincidence, they had a free period right after lunch so they could explore with maximum light so they could easily see everything; every other time they'd tried to, the light levels had been too low to get a good look at anything.

But they should have learnt by now, after years of traveling and adventure, that you should always carry a map just in case you get lost. But no. No map. Totally lost. After a while of trying to navigate the twisting corridors and ever-changing staircases, their inner frustration was beginning to show on the outside.

Another dead end.
And another.

It felt like hours had passed before they found a new corridor they'd not paced down a million times. Well at least that's something. This place was unlike the main corridors; not neat and organised, almost forgotten, as if it had been left at the bottom of the cleaning list. Does anyone even come here? They looked around, and saw a heavy door to their right, built in to the wall. What could be in there?

One part of them said that it wasn't in the main building, and so they shouldn't go in- but another part told them curiosity wasn't a bad thing, and that no one had told them they couldn't go in...

Alright. Let's see what lies behind this wall. As Leaf approached the door, an awful stench filled the air and they couldn't help but cough and briefly consider turning back- but they wanted to know what was inside. So carefully, they turned the handle and looked upon a scene they'd never expected. An abundance of trash and grime littered the floor of a bathroom. So much that Leaf was hopping between small puddles of I-don't-even-want-to-know to try and stop getting their shoes ruined.

It was as if a rubbish dump had gone and thrown up in a bathroom. Everything was just so dirty. And this room couldn't possibly be used for the purpose for which it was designed. Who would?

Did the taps work? Leaf hopped over to the sinks and saw the grime built up on the tap. I'm not touching that. They thought the public toilets in town back home were disgusting, but this was something else entirely. Doors barely hung to their hinges. Floor tiles were definitely not as white as they were when they were installed. Litter was everywhere. Why does this place even exist?

For the first time in... ever, Chloe finally had a free period. She had just finished her lunch, and left the Great Hall with her wand tucked into her blue Ravenclaw robes, as she wouldn't be needing it, at last just having free time to do whatever she wanted with. She couldn't be described as much of an adventurer, but she had never seen anything like Hogwarts before. She'd heard stories from her mother, of course, but now that she was actually in the school, even she couldn't describe how large the castle was, for she didn't know her way around half of the place. So naturally, the most tempting thing for her to do with this free time was to have a look around.

Chloe ended up in a hallway she certainly didn't recognize, after a long time of wandering around. With a curious look around, she noted that it was messy, in a way she hadn't seen before in the castle. Perhaps it was abandoned? It certainly looked so. She felt as though she shouldn't go poking around in an unknown area, in a place filled with magic that could be dangerous, but she felt intrigued now, curious to know why this hallway looked so filthy.

There was a door farther down the hallway which caused Chloe to stop and turn around. It reeked. It smelled so terrible that Chloe couldn't place what it smelled like, just all of the worst things she could think of smelling. She covered her mouth and nose with her sleeve, holding her breath. For a moment, she was preparing to turn away from the door, but where would she go then? Here was a mysterious door, a riddle, for her Ravenclaw-ness to solve, and she really did ache to solve it.

So, with a grimace, Chloe pushed open the door.

At this point, Chloe had no reason to cover her nose and mouth anymore. The scent of the... bathroom seeped through her sleeve anyway, and her blue eyes watered. She peered around. There was rubbish and... puddles? all over the floor. Chloe gagged at the sight of the puddles, pulling up her robes to prevent them from touching the unknown substance.

It was hard to believe such a room in Hogwarts even existed. So far, all Chloe had seen from the castle was sparkling and neat, though certainly not new. So why did this bathroom look as if a troll had been let in and permitted to do whatever they wanted with it? Even the sinks were clogged with grime, and the doors to the toilets were dangling as if they were bound to fall off at any instant.

Chloe hardly even noticed there was another person in the place. She was too busy watching the muck seep through cracks in the floor, until her eyes drifted back to the sinks and saw the other person there. She hated to assume anything... but this was surely the only person for a while around. It couldn't be their fault that this bathroom was so appalling, though. She doubted any human was capable of creating such an atrocity purposefully. She did wonder if they knew anything about why this bathroom was this way, and why it still existed, though.

"Hi," said Chloe, laughing and flushing slightly as she stepped around the puddles on the floor. "Sorry, I didn't know anyone else was... here. I... um... what is this place? I was just exploring the castle and... now I'm here.

Done with the taps, Leaf tip toed over to the toilets, which were undoubtedly going to be just as bad. Grimy water (who knows what else was in it) flowed out of the cubicle and under the gap in the door. Leaf pushed open the door lightly, but the wood immediately split and fell off the lower hinge, then swung from the other hinge before completely falling off and landing on the floor loudly.

I broke something... They had a duty to fix the door. Or at least try. They'd broken the door, and so it was only fair that they put it back on. Slowly and waiting for the inevitable feel of something gross beneath their fingertips, they reached down to grab the door, which lay face down in the grimy water.

The entrance to the bathroom opened. Someone came in. A girl around their age, looking just as disgusted at Leaf had. They stood up again and left the door lying there- Oh well, they thought, No one will know and its probably too gross to be reused.

The girl wandered around for a little, scanning the room, reacting to every inch of the bathroom. "Hi" She spoke so suddenly, only just aware that Leaf was here too, but somehow laughing a little whilst jumping across puddles, "Sorry, I didn't know anyone else was... here. I... um... what is this place? I was just exploring the castle and... now I'm here

Leaf couldn't have put their situation in better words. "I... I don't know." They didn't really have the courage to begin a large conversation with a stranger. A sudden rotten stench filled their nostrils and they gagged and held their jumper up to their nose. My clothes are going to need a thorough wash.

Maya ran through the hallways, a group of gryffindor and Hufflepuff girls chasing her and shouting "Give it back, you dirty snake!"

This wasn't the first time she'd been insulted just because she was Slytherin, hence why she'd decided to take revenge, even if it meant breaking a rule. She continued sprinting down but then suddenly got tired. I need to hide somewhere! Maya thought. She then saw two old looking doors to her left and immediately pushed them open and jumped inside, slamming the door shut behind her. She gave a sigh of relief.

Looking around the strange room, she realised that this is the abandoned toilets. Maya immediately realised why not many people actually entered this place; it smelled quite bad and everything seemed so...old and broken.

At least I'm safe from them. she thought, pulling out a colourful, rainbow painted diary from her dark green hoodie pocket. Suddenly, she realised there were two other people in there. Wow! Is there a place I will ever actually be alone in? Maya still stood with her back against the door, studying the two people.

One of the two was a person she had met before, Leaf Shard. But there was another one she didn't recognise. She had long ginger hair that fell past her shoulders and bright blue shining eyes. They both stared at her, silent. "Um..." Maya started. "Hi?"

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until they speak.

Just a few long moments of gagging passed, before someone sprinted in- she had unmistakable blue hair and wore a dark green hoodie. Maya? She pulled out a rainbow book or something from her pocket. Then seemed to notice that there were two other people in the room, and that Leaf was staring at her, confused. Why wouldn't they be confused?

Maya was the first to speak, simply saying hi, and then left the conversation in silence. "Well...Maya...What are you doing here?" They didn't mean for it to sound rude or anything, but they were very curious as to why Maya just darted into a manky old bathroom with a rainbow book that was so clearly not hers.

Leaf gagged again. What was wrong with this place? Why couldn't it leave them alone? Every rancid smell you could think of; Leaf inhaled it and felt it cling to the inside of their throat so it wouldn't go away.

It took a while for them to adjust properly to it all, but after that Leaf stood up straight again and faced where Maya was standing by the door, still holding the book and staring back at them, but without looking all judgy. "Sorry."
