Thoughts
It was one of the last days of August, and Mahlioz was standing in the Magical Menagerie, looking at a black cat. The black cat was looking back at her, its yellow eyes sparkling and mischievous. At that moment, Mahlioz thought she wanted a cat. But then she turned around and was face to face with a ferret, and suddenly she really, really wanted a ferret. Why had she even wanted the cat in the first place? But then she turned her head once more to find a toad, and... well, she suddenly really wanted a toad. Ferrets and cats were cool and all, but toads? They were so much cuter!

This had been going on for over half an hour now, and Mahlioz was sure Irina was getting impatient. They'd come to Diagon Alley together, but she'd asked for some time alone with the pets so that she could choose one. She wasn't sure where Irina was now, but she hoped her friend wasn't getting bored. It was just so hard to choose!

From time to time, one of the shopkeepers walked over to her to ask if she needed help, and Mahlioz always thanked them and said that no, she was fine. But maybe they were getting a little impatient too. Would they think she was up to something, what with walking around the shop three million times over? She hoped not. She just couldn't decide!

It was then that Mahlioz's eyes rested upon a little rabbit in a cage that she had not seen before. As with all the other animals, she suddenly wanted him. But there was something different about him. He had very light beige fur, nearly white, and his eyes had a sort of gleam to them, as though he was just waiting for an adventure to present itself to him. He reminded her of someone... though she could not place whom.

Once she went back (reluctantly) to look at the other animals, though, she knew he was the one. She no longer felt like the other animals were nearly as cute as the bunny, or as intelligent-looking (although bunnies were not known to be extremely smart).
When she went back to him, deciding she had finally chosen what pet she wanted, she realized who he reminded her of. "Eusèbe!" she said enthusiastically. Eusèbe was a little white rabbit from a French comic she loved, called De Cape Et De Crocs, and he was probably her favorite character in those books.

Don Eusèbio was the nickname given to the bunny by another character, Don Lope, and the Slytherin soon-to-be second year found it fit this rabbit in front of her perfectly. That was it, then, the choice was made. Mahlioz picked him up to go and show her parents and Irina, and buy him. He was perfect, and she was looking forward to spending time with him.
