August 10th, 5PM 23-------------- Cosmic Entropy ------- -------Erasmus Manor-------
------- ------- Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e------- -------
20 days, 6 hours, 34 minutes and 50 seconds until September 1st.
Remedy lingered before the gold mirror and studied her reflected image in the polished metal.
"I will persist until I succeed," she murmured again before she looked down at her father's bronze vintage mechanical pocket watch, a sigh expelling from her lips before turning away and sauntering quickly out of her room and across the spacious, polished tile flooring lined with an expansive maroon and gold runner.
The path to the foyer was a grueling one, trekking down a expansive ballroom before scaling long hallways showcasing rows of navy curtained arched windows, several empty rooms that served no purpose at all, multiple lounges featuring tables carved from ivory and cypress, marble fireplaces and arrays of floor-to-ceiling shelves lined with knickknacks, heirlooms and ancient tomes of the past. Every facet of her home boasted wealth accumulated over the centuries, as did every other estate the Norden's would possess across the world, each one equally opulent yet incredibly lonely. That was, for an only child like Remedy.
Marble columns rising to support ornated ceilings burnished with gold gleamed against the dancing candlelit ambient lighting, her ivory gloved hands gripping the ebony railing of the staircase as she strolled down the stairwell. The scent of decadent cuisine wafted to her nostrils, laughter in the air, she slowed her pace hesitantly to listen.
It was a strange sound for the young witch to hear, her parents talking and laughing; not necessarily rare as her parents and Remedy each shared hearty moments together, but unusual given her parents were alone. She wondered what occasion would liven the Norden household, and rejuvenate her parents' friendships with each other given their rocky history.
On her path down the stairs, a house elf whose name the girl could care less to know, dusted portraits and carved statues of famous figures of the past and gave Remedy a feigned smile as she sauntered onwards. The smell grew more intense as Remedy trudged closer, the conversations between her parents becoming slightly clearer.
'Pour glasses for them, too, dear. Merlin knows they’ll need it. They should be arriving any minute.'
Remedy pondered on her father's words before entering the room. It was often that the Norden's opened up one of their homes to host lavish balls, events, and feasts of the sort to fellow families of the ultra class; usually Remedy would know in advance to familiarize names and make appearances among the socialites of the Pureblood ultra class. But this wouldn't be the case, which could only mean one thing: the Drake's were coming.
A smile touched her lips; excitement building as the fun-filled memories of Perseus, his wife, and his sons coming over. Perseus was like her father's brother, now adults yet still reliving their youth through ancient anecdotes of their years in Hogwarts. Both Slytherin and roommates, for 7 years straight; a friendship that would last a lifetime after graduation.
Perseus's oldest, Ulysses Drake, would be the first person her age that brought undeniable excitement to one judgmental Remedy, who did not care much for children her age. It wasn't that Remedy lacked social skills to cultivate friendships. The truth was that none displayed the tenacity, talent and ambition that made them worth knowing or remembering, at least according to Remedy.
Ulysses was different though -- he was similar to her in a way. He possessed qualities of a true and worthy friend of a Norden; someone who Remedy could learn from, be loyal to, and better yet, to trust. Such virtues were a rare feat for those who attempted to befriend the future vipress in the past. Her father had always recited a quote ’birds of a feather stick together’ when explaining the importance of friendships, although its easier said when the meek doves outnumber the eagles.
Remedy didn’t have time for doves.
"My little Remedy," Her mother, Hyacinth, would exclaim in her thick yet sing-song-y French accent, approaching her daughter with outreached arms. "I was afraid you'd never come out of the study. That dress looks superbe stunning, my love. Perseus is coming over for dinner, alors sois gentil so be nice."
Hyacinth's hands met Remedy's frame, bringing her daughter in for an embrace and a light peck on her darkened hair. She wished time would slow; the middle aged woman was nowhere near ready for her daughter to leave the nest, so to speak.
"Ulysses, too?" Remedy muffled between her mother's fabric, squirming for air.
"Oui, and his brothers. And, unfortunately, his lovely mother too." She continued on. Her feathery tone dropped to a harsh whisper as Beatrice was mentioned, yet a playful smile crossed her lips as she gazed downwards at Remedy, gentle hands cradling her face.
"Hyacinth." Her father intercepted further comment from his wife in a stern tone. His presence like a shadow, booming and yet, silent and lethal. He positioned himself in on the divan, his dark eyes glaring suspiciously at her mother just as his lips met the rim of the glass. The glass held a dark amber liquid, most likely containing his firewhiskey as he often leisurely sipped after some stressful days at work.
"Enough. They should be here any minute."
Hyacinth stifled a chuckle with her daughter, an exchange of cheeky grins between the girls. It was as though they shared a secret that only they could know, that being Hyacinth’s obvious dislike for Perseus’s wife. With a playful yet frustrated sigh, Remedy’s mother released her daughter from her grasp and took a seat next to her husband.
Remedy didn’t speak out of turn after their minuscule tiff, waiting for the conversation to be led by her parents while intermittently checking her clock for the time.

【don't get cut on my edges. i'm the king of everything and oh, my tongue is a weapon!】

Ulysses hadn’t expected this impromptu trip over to the Norden’s residence but with his father excited to see Mr. and Mrs. Norden (Uncle Derrick when his wife wasn’t around it seemed as though they were having a more casual dinner to celebrate the oldest of them heading to Hogwarts, where both families found themselves becoming the witches and wizards that they were today.
With a wrinkled nose, Uly changed himself into a bit more formal wear appropriate along with a dragon broach that he received from his grandfather on his last birthday “ Hold on tight, buddy. ” Perseus offered his typical million watt smile over to his son as Ulysses’ mother and father circled the portrait portkey that would apparate them to the front of the Norden’s residence.
“ Dad, i’ve done this a million times. I’m headed to Hogwarts, let’s give me a little more credit. ” With an eye roll, Percy gripped his son’s shoulder and gave the child a quick rattle of his bones before Bea smiled to and placed a hand as well from them to travel. “ Don’t forget your manners, Uly. Remember what happened last time, we were the talk of pureblood society for at least a week after your shenanigans. ” Bea was always so quick to remind her son of both his promise but also his shortcomings, mumbling under her breath using wandless magic to help tidy and freshen up her son just a little bit more that he had seemingly forgot to do.
“ Let the boy go, Beatrice. Let’s give him the space to grow into the young man we’ll know he will be, right? ” Perseus took a far more laissez-faire approach to raising his boys than Beatrice Rose, who focused entirely on the way they were all perceived and that they kept in contact with other wizards with immense magical prowess. The five of them gripped onto the portkey rightly and in a matter of seconds, they were transported to their location directly in front of the Norden residence.
The gate opened as a house elf greeted them for a moment until the trio entered the main dining area of the Norden residence and it was a casual soiree, but the Norden's always had to host well with some of the expected formalities and pureblood understandings as Ulysses focused on greeting Remedy's parents formally. Mrs. Remedy had kept to a strict politeness as he gave the woman a proper hello while Mr. Remedy pulled him in for a hug, as though almost a second father figure, as did the other young children who were there too.
After the formalities finished, Uly's younger brothers were sitting at the table entertaining themselves with a typical wizard game while the adults splintered into getting drinks leaving Remedy and Ulysses (pretty friendly individuals through their fathers) next to one another on the dining table.
They had been through this time and time again, the two always connected simply by being the children of men who were bonded as brothers. Ulysses appreciated Remedy's sharp tongue but felt she was always far too serious and he often pushed or forced her to relax and be a little more human than machination. She always looked so well put together, Uly could tell that she was meant for this type of life. She had inherited her mother's icy stare and her mind was wicked and brilliant, which meant she could be truly terrifying if she deigned herself to be. " Well, don't you look like a proper young lady. " He mocked some of the vernacular and choice phrases his mother had said when greeting Remedy, rolling his eyes and shaking his head at how he was certain his mom wished for Remedy as a daughter instead of the rambunctious son she inserted. If she hadn't wanted such charismatic and energetic children, she probably shouldn't have found herself a dragon tamer for a husband. " She always does this, but jokes on her that she still gets to go home with her three little headaches. " A wide-beaming smile found its way onto Uly's lips at the thought, he hadn't often tried to be a problem but it just seemed to happen more as he was readying himself for wizardry school.
" You finally all ready for Hogwarts ? " Uly asked, deep gaze over to little miss prim and proper, the background noise of a rattlesnake pulsed while she tapped as the young boy leaned in a bit more almost to taunt his friend to try and strike. " I got my robes all figured out, little itchy but I guess i'll survive. I practically begged for a Firebolt while we were in Diagon Alley and they sad maybe if my grades were good they'd consider it for Christmas. What bollocks." Shifting his focus back to his friend, he did a once over of Remedy before settling himself comfortably into his seat. " How about you? Any idea if you want to do any sports? "
