Madi was sitting in the library on what was a fairly chilly but bright October afternoon. She'd been for a run this morning after having breakfast in the Great Hall and was now sitting in the library after having a shower, changing, spending some time with her kitten Clover and also her boyfriend. The library, which for a Sunday was surprisingly full, felt warm and cosy on this chilly day, so Madi found an empty table, got down a book on magical creatures and beings, and began to read it. As she was sitting at one of the tables, she heard footsteps and looking up, saw it was Simon Kincaid, one of the older students from Hufflepuff whom she had met a fair few months ago in the Hufflepuff Common Room and who was also, a prefect. She smiled and looked up from her book "Oh hello Simon, you can sit down if you want, I'm just reading a book and this was the only table that wasn't full" Madi said with a giggle.

She had her Herbology books and Charms books with her, though after finishing her Herbology homework she couldn't even think about doing her Charms homework too so she put the books to one side and had gotten out the book she was currently reading about magical creatures and beings. As Madi lay the book on the table, which was open onto the chapter on Thunderbirds, as she was tired of holding it, she looked up at Simon and smiled "So, what brings you into the library Simon?" Madi asks.

She and Simon would acknowledge each other, say hello in the corridors and talk about classes, but Madi was normally busy with Quidditch or hanging out with her boyfriend, or her friends, of which she didn't share too many in common with Simon. Nevertheless, they were friendly to each other. You wouldn't say they were acquaintances but you wouldn't say they were best friends yet, they were more just friendly friends, though that didn't even make sense to Madi in her own head when she thought it through, only snapping out of her thoughts when she heard a book fall behind her, and saw it was a first year trying to get a book that was too high up. Madi smiled, got up and helped get the book down for the first year, sitting back down opposite Simon after the first year thanked her.

Meeting up with @Madison Bennett in the Library

With the first of October, it was as if the winds of the Scottish Highlands had decided that cold weather needed to be upon them instantly and spread hard and quick through the grounds around the castle of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He hadn't ventured outside that day, but he heard that some Ravenclaws canceled their broom racing practice because of the high winds and many students were indoors, all adorning their heavy sweaters and cloaks for perhaps the first time that school year.

Simon was prepared to head to the Library that afternoon anyway, as he had just finished two books that he had checked out and had a new one reserved and just get through circulation about magical medicine. Upon entering the Library, he stopped at the front desk and exchanged his two read books for the new one and then began to venture further into the space, realizing just how many other students thought the Library on this chilly day was a good idea.

Great minds think alike.

About halfway in, a familiar face lifted her head and recognized him, offering to have him sit with her. Simon smiled, "Ah, a kind soul in this cruel, cruel world...." Simon said dramatically. He was just placing his enchanted satchel next to a nearby chair that he was going to sit on when he saw the first year struggling but Madi was already up and out of her chair to help. Gotta love Hufflepuffs.

In the short time she was away from the table, he sat down and examined the books she had. Herbology, Charms, Magical Creatures - all right and decent enough subjects save for the Charms which weren't his favorite. He struggled with wandcasting and therefore Charms and Transfigurations were his toughest classes. He'd eventually get there, but it took awhile. It seemed that correct enunciation and wand movement just wasn't enough, and that sometimes properly conducting some spells was just hopeless when he wanted them casted. Maybe it was the dhampir in him. Maybe it was the wand. Simon often wondered if a different wand wouldn't perhaps better suit him. His was a wand for a duellist, the shopkeeper had said, and well, Simon wasn't a duellist - by sport or by lifestyle.

"I see you chose magical creatures over the rest," he said to Madi when she returned to the table.

Madi giggled at his dramatic entrance and smiled at Simon as he sat down. Once she had returned to the table after helping the first year get the book they wanted, she saw him looking at the books that she had on the table with her. "Yeah, i love reading about magical creatures, i think they're fascinating. I was also going to try and do some Herbology or Charms homework but, since it's Sunday, I'm going to give my brain a rest for the day. Do you have a favourite magical creature Simon?" Madi said and asked with a soft smile.

As she looked at the page she was on, she looked up and saw some students leave, in this cold weather, no thank you Madi thought to herself. Since she and Simon hadn't really talked much since they first met in the Hufflepuff common room, Madi thought now would be a good time to get to know each other more, "so, how have you been Simon? I know you and AngelFyre are still together, but how have you been otherwise?" Madi asked with curiosity. She had read the school newspaper recently, however now probably isn't the best time to bring it up with Simon.

She turned around in her seat to face him, Madi felt it would be kind of rude if she just sat facing the table, rather than the person she was talking to. The page, that the book Madi was reading had been left open at, was all about the mythical creature of a dhampir, a being that is created as a result of the union a vampire and human. Madi also had written lyrics of a song she'd heard on the front of one of her notebooks, which was laid out next to the mythical creatures book. The song was one that her older brother James had told her about, after he heard it, hanging out with one of his friends, who had a muggle dad and a magical mum. The song was called Shivers and it was by a British singer called Ed Sheeran. Her brother had played it for her on the piano at their house once and so she'd written some lyrics from it on the front of a notebook she used to write down thoughts, ideas, anything that came into her head really.

Catching up with @Madison Bennett

"Favorite magical creature...." he paused to think on that a moment. "I find it fascinating how phoenixes have tears with healing powers but I can't say I've read up much on magical creatures as a whole...." he paused to give her book a once-over, having only briefly heard of thunderbirds in passing and realized he knew nothing about them. They seemed much larger than he pictured, as he thought of them about the size of an eagle. Maybe he'd have to venture some into the world of magical creatures. "And unicorns are absolute breathtaking up close. Last Fall Ball, AngelFyre and I were unfortunately unable to see the one that they had here," ....they had been too preoccupied trying to help fellow student Lily Brown McCoire from nearly being murdered, "...so last Christmas I arranged for a handler to bring a unicorn to Hogsmeade so AngelFyre could still see one and pet one. Majestic isn't a word to do them justice. They're quite playful too, at least this one was. She liked to play a sort of game of chase. Her name was Catori." It was a lovely memory that he cherished. He hoped to someday do some kind of fundraiser there at Hogwarts with the students and staff and donate the raised funds to the sanctuary where Catori lived. The man who ran it took amazing care of his creatures that could no longer live in their natural habitats for various reasons.

"I haven't really done much research on magical creatures in the sense of magical animal creatures. Although I've spent an extensive amount of time researching things like vampires and werewolves and that sort of thing. The uhh....other humanistic breeds, if you will." He smiled to her, knowing that she probably understood well why because, well, most of the student body knew he was a dhampir by now and if she didn't, perhaps even the smile alone gave it away.

He looked down at one of the other books to see it open to a page about dhampirs. Talk about coincidence.

"I've uhh...." he hesitated only slightly because the book caught him off guard but he was comfortable, or at least growing more comfortable, in what he was and if Madison knew what he was and still invited him to sit, that meant she had a level of comfort with it as well so he felt more at ease again. "I've been well. I've been very well. Lots of broom racing practice this year and continuing with the healing internship with the school nurse. Keeping my faith strong, been keeping up with school work - still struggling in Charms and Transfigurations but great marks elsewhere. Been writing for the Headliner and taking photos with my wizard camera, still always got music going in my head and attempting to keep up correspondence with family elsewhere. That's....my life in a nutshell. How've you been, Madison Bennett?"
