With heavy, upset steps, Edmund marshed into the study room and passed through between a few full tables before finally finding a couple of empty spots. He pulled a chair and sat down with a loud huff then set up his notebook, quill and ink bottle before opening a book titled "A Beginner's Guide to Magical Plants". He always prefered to write and read loud enough so he can hear himself while studying. His mother taught him that and explained to him how engaging more senses would help him focus more and study much more effecintly. He settled in his chair and started reading, "Mandrakes, known for their powerful restorative properties..." He wasn't reading anymore after that part. Of course, he was still gazing at the page, but almost as if he was looking through it. He was still seeing the lines and shapes that the black ink formed in neatly arranged lines, and yes, he kept following the curves of the words with his distracted green eyes, but he wasn't really reading anymore.
He was very upset to focus. He couldn't decide which was the worst that happened this morning, the fact that he arrived late to his first class of Herbology because he lost his way? Which, ironically, was the class he was most excited about. Or perhaps the 2 points that he lost because of that. Or maybe he's mad because those Slythern boys made fun of the way he was running because he was late. "It's not my fault the school is huge and the trunk is so heavy!" All he could do was playing different scinarios in his head. He pictured himself arriving on time and really impressing the Professor, who decided to give him 10 points! He even imagined himself helping the professor explain the lesson to his classmates, but he imidiatly felt stupid for even thinking about something like that when he doesn't even know the basics compared to others. Especially those who knew magic existed and maybe even practiced and used it their entire lives.
He scowled and leaned back, sinking more into his chair. From his new angle, he observed the other students in the study room, slowly calming down as he watched. He sat up and leaned on the table in front of him, supporting his chin with his hand. There were two girls who wouldn't stop whispering and giggling. "It's the blond one that keeps distracting her friend. The other girl is just being polite." he decided. A tall girl walked in and paused at the door, scanning the room and students. Her hair is dark shade of brown. Smooth and very well-combed, framed her face nicely. On the other side of the room, a boy was studying alone in the corner. He repeatedly covered the book with his hand, silently mouthing words while nodding softly with each word. Occasionally, the boy would glance back at the text to verify something before resuming his quiet study. And there, far in the back, Edmund saw the same Slytherin boys who made fun of him earlier, pretending to study but they were clearly just picking on people and having a laugh. "Ugh...Annoying brats!" he grumbled and threw himself back in his chair, letting out a sharp sigh.

Guinevere was in a mood. Time just passed too fast; she was already a third year and she was turning fourteen very soon. She was what you called someone living under a rock, largely antisocial and preferred to focus on her priorities, which were excelling in class and learning to be a better duellist. Her victory during summer camp had given her a huge boost of confidence, which she hoped wouldn't falter during the school year.
On this particular day, she came to the library to do a bit of studying for History of Magic, one of the classes she wasn't as good at. A quiz was coming up soon, and she wanted to get a good grade.
The library was full, it seemed, when she walked in. There were a couple of younger students, but she found that there was still an empty chair at the table where a young Hufflepuff sat.
"Hey, mind if I sit here?" She asked him. He didn't seem to notice, and instead grumbled "Ugh, annoying brats!"
If punctuation itself could have sounds, Guin's response would have been just a question mark. She knew her face expressed that enough, though. "I'm assuming you weren't talking about me? I don't think we've met before. Are you a first year? I don't know a lot of y'all younger ones."

"Ugh...Annoying brats!" Edmund huffed, slouched in his seat with crossed arms. He was completely focused on the Slytherin boys across the study room, watching them as they laughed and made fun of the first years who looked timid enough and dared to studying alone. Suddenly, shadow covered the book in front of Edmund as a student stood close to his table and blocked his vision. She said something, but he didn't catch it. Edmund tilted his head to the side and kept watching the Slytherin boys. The student near him spoke again, but this time the words passed through his anger and snapped him back to his senses. "I'm assuming you weren't talking about me?" she said staring at him. Edmund looked at the girl, confused at first, but as he realized what is happening, his brows shot upward and he gasped, "Oh no, no!" He waved his hands in front of him and shook his head, which was quickly turning red around the cheeks and ears."I don't think we've met before. Are you a first year?" The older girl continued "I don't know a lot of y'all younger ones." Edmund looked up to finally have a better look at her. The girl was tall. Probably fourth year or older. Her eyes were fixed on him with a blank face. He was worried she didn't believe him and was still mad. Edmund took a breath and noded, "Yes, I am a first year. Hufflepuff." He answered. "There is an empty chair there if you would like to sit. And I really wasn't talking about you." He looked passed her to glance at the Slytherins again, but they were gone. He sighed and looked back at the girl. "I was distracted by a bunch of bullies. Sorry." He appologized with a soft, shy voice and turned back to his book.

The boy didn't seem to hear her first statement, ("can I sit here?") but at her second, he realized and frantically said he wasn't talking about Guin, his ears and cheeks turning red. She listened as he introduced himself as a first year Hufflepuff, confirming her guess.
"Oh, nice. I'm a third year Slytherin. As you can tell." She gestured to her green robe colors. He offered a spot for her to sit, which she accepted; placed her things on the table, and sat down. Guin followed his gaze to an empty table, presumably where the group of bullies had sat a few moments ago. "You're going to let your attention span shrivel up and die at the hands of a few adolescent kids? That'll be fun to deal with when you're working on your OWL's" She asked, half sarcastic. She didn't really know how that would affect someone's attention span, but people needed to know that what others thought could be taken with a grain of salt. "What'd they do to you, insult your House or something?"
"Also, I didn't even introduce myself! I'm Guinevere Russetwood, and I'm a duellist," she said. "You?" She got her textbook out, and flipped to the page she would need. She could chat for a bit while doing her homework; it wasn't the Library, after all, and they were allowed to talk.
