Roa didn’t quite know if he needed help or not. He probably did, but his shyness was telling him, No, you don’t need help. Needing help means you have to ask for it. . . Ultimately leading Roa to just stare at his parchment and chew on the end of his pen. He had sighed through his nose and pulled feather away from his mouth, seting it down On his desk.

He understood what he was supposed to do, he just didn’t know how. Now that makes no sense. He guessed he knew and understood the concept, but putting it into action was a lot different than reading it. Moving a stick and moving his wand felt very different, too different.

All of this had been done in his dorm. Eventually, he’d given up and decided to clear him brain from class work and explor the school. Which lead him here, standing just inside the door and to the left a little of the library. Now that he thought about it, maybe there was a book, or maybe, person, that could help him. Though the thought of walking up to someone and asking was, to be honest, slightly terrifying for him.

He wanders further into the library, his gaze flicking to the tables, where a few other students sat. Then flicks to the towering shelves of books. He swallows slightly, that was a lot of books. He moves towards the shelves and then changes direction, moving towards the tables.

He pulls his satchel off his shoulder and quietly sets it down. Flipping it open, he pulls out his paper, looking at it for a moment and turning. He sighs softly, it would take forever to find a book to help him. Though he was sure the shelves were neatly organized, that doesn’t mean he knows his way around the shelves and how to find the book he needs.

Simon was at the Library that day to check out a new book they had on various - other creatures - we shall say, and to pick up a couple new ones on magical medicine that he had not yet read. The first subject had such scare information available that it was difficult to wrap his head around and the latter, being magical medicine, was so expanse that it ended up with the same result. Still, Simon felt that Fourth Year was as good as any to start buckling down on knowledge.

He had seen the boy enter the Library. He seemed lost in thought - perhaps maybe hoping that words of an essay would pop into his mind but as time went on, and Simon finished with the slightly long introduction of his book, he glanced up to see the boy still seeming a little lost in his thoughts. Maybe he needed a little bit of help, or maybe he was going through some kind of problem. Simon wasn't sure, but he wasn't someone who could read minds so there was only one way to find out.

He approached the fellow Hufflepuff just as a sigh escaped him. "Hi there. Simon Kincaid. Fellow Hufflepuff. Sorry, if I'm bothering you and you can certainly tell me to scram and I promise I won't threaten detention," Simon smiled widely. ".....But I thought you might need some assistance," he continued. "I've been there - chewing on the quill, staring into space, the heavy sighs." His included a lot of quill tapping and possibly humming too. It's why he was kicked out of the study rooms once. "What can I help with?"

Roa blinks and looks up. The voice sounded slightly familiar and the first thing he noticed was the black and yellow colors of the other’s uniform. Another Hufflepuff. He noted the prefect badge on his robes and then his gaze settles on his face. He steps back half a step, shifting on his feet slightly. He was unsure what to say, not one to just talk to people, but he could try.

Oh. . . Um. . . I’m Roazin. I won’t, just. . . Um. . .” He shifts his weight again slightly, looking uncomfortable. He knew what he needed help with, but was too shy to put it into words. He looks down pulling on the sleeve of his robes, “Um. . . Charms. . . I don’t quite. . . Understand it. I can’t. . . Really do it right either.

He looks back up, having spoken to the floor rather the the other boy. He wasn’t aftraied of the boy, he didn’t mind the fact that he’d spoken to Roa. It was just that Roa wasn’t used to socializing, or not getting something the first few tries.

Struggling with charms made almost no sense to him. His wand movements were right, and his pronunciation. He thought that maybe he wasn’t concentrating enough. Which would make sense. Being surrounded by other students also trying to do the charm, or just the bustling of the school was a lot to take in. Roa was used to the silence of his room in his Aunts apartment, not always being surrounded by people.

"Ah Charms is not my friend either, mate. That and Transfigurations. Alll the wand-casting ones, really. I can sympathize. I might not be the best qualified tutor for the job but I did survive my first years through it all and can certainly understand the struggle. If you want, we can go over to the corner there where that table is by the window and try a few exercises?"

Honestly, Simon didn't mind. In fact, he enjoyed being able to help others and that had always been in his nature - not just some duty because he was prefect. Besides, he felt some sort of slight connection with this boy, and maybe it was because he was Hufflepuff and struggling with what he had forever struggled with since he first picked up his wand.

Simon wondered if he'd ever fully figure it out or if that struggle would always remain.

"I will say this to beef up my resume a little," as if he was in some job interview or something for this tutoring position, "I've made great strides in my wandcasting despite.....complications, if you will. There's uh, outside factors that are beyond my control and I've done surprisingly well when you consider that."

Simon took a few steps toward that table near the window, hoping that the boy might come follow him so he could be of some assistance perhaps.

Roa smiles, relief washing over his face as he nodded, “That would be. . . Really great! Any sort of help. . . to understand this will be. . . Very much welcome.” He shifts his weight, looking slightly uncomfortable. He was unused to talking to new people, always preferring to talk to Abigail instead. She’d always been the one to introduce him to new people, and to be honest, he was perfectly content with that.

Roazin follows Simon towards the indicated table, quiet for a few more moments before speaking again, “My aunt told me. . . That it would be hard for me too. . .” He shrugs slightly and pulls out a chair, setting his bag down on the table. He remembered when his aunt had sat him down and told him that he would struggle with learning his wand magic. He still didn’t understand how or why it was like that, and maybe he’d read up on it or something in the feature. But for now, he was getting much needed help.

He looked up at Simon, hesitating for a moment before clearing his throat slightly, “So, um, I don’t actually. . . know[ what I’m doing wrong or anything. I feel like I’m saying the words. . . Correctly, and moving my hand correctly. And, um, most of the time when it’s quiet enough. . . I can focus pretty well.” He shrugs slightly, looking away for a moment, fidgeting slightly with the strap of his bag anxiously.

"Why did your aunt say it would be hard for you?" Simon said as he pulled out his wand and thought for a moment about the wand itself. Maybe that was the issue. Maybe this boy had a wand that just didn't understand him or something. Simon's own wand wasn't like that - it was like it was trying its very best despite his struggles as a dhampir and he admired that about it. But all wands were different, and maybe that's what this boy's aunt had meant - maybe there was some odd wand issue or something; the wrong wood type or core.

"Sometimes you just have to work and work and work at it, or attempt it thrice times over to get the same results that someone gets on the first try - that's at least my findings. I'm a dhampir though and we just don't get good wandcasting abilities for some reason. I don't quite understand why. I mean, we can, we are of magic and all or else we wouldn't be here, but it's like there's this block that we have to get through. Maybe it's some sort of dark magic that lingers from the making of vampires and since there's some of that in my blood; like some kind of weird hex - I dunno,"
he shrugged and looked up from his wand slowly, a little hesitantly.

He hoped that the boy wouldn't be upset that he was a dhampir. Some didn't mind at all or give it a second thought. Some ran away in terror. It wasn't a secret though. Simon had even outted himself in a Hogwarts Headliner interview in the October 2023 edition. Many in the school knew he was a dhampir.
