August 12TH
Theo was getting flashbacks to last summer as the Duncain van was filled to the top with people and luggage, ready to go on another camping trip. It was the second year in a row that he invited two of his friends to take two of the remaining seats and his parents had pulled him aside to let him know that his siblings would be offered to invite some friends as well- and as Theo's friends had been coming last year, this year they would not be prioritized.

But there had been no reason to worry at all, in fact, especially the youngest Duncain twins seemed very keen to invite more of 'Theo's wizard friends'. Phyllis was not a stranger to them after last camp and was greeted with excited shouts by the twins and even Ana would be a little more open towards the other girl. While Theo and Anabelle were close, neither of them ever addressed the elephant that had been taking up space and breathing the air away ever since he had left for Ilvermorny the first time.

Magic had driven a rift between the two of them and Theo was not sure if it could be closed again. But he tried hard to involve his sister in whatever he could. Last year she had slept in the magic tent with him and his friends, this year he had offered the same to her but she had declined. Not pettily, but very decided.
He had an idea of what triggered her choice but again he decided not to address it. If Ana was making her peace with the knowledge that there was another fantastic world that she could not be part of, Theo would not be the one to stop her.

The twins, Steve and Elias however, who were again sharing the back seats of the van, would spend the time in the car bugging the unknown passenger- Dee. The Ravenclaw would hardly get a minute of quiet while the twins would ask her all imaginable and unimaginable questions about the magical world (Even more so should she drop that she was a duellist). Theo had really owled her on a whim. It wasn't like he knew her well but the Blossom Ball at which he met her was still a fun memory he liked to think of. So he had invited her and to his delight and surprise, she had accepted and come to meet him in Alaska.

So here they were, once again taking up the middle row of the van after Ana had claimed the front seat next to her father. Theo had made sure to take the right window seat right behind his sister, occasionally reaching forward to hand her some candy out of a bag he had set on his lap and which he would offer his friends as well.
While Virgil would mostly talk quietly to Ana and let his sons be noisy, he would still take a moment at the beginning of the car journey to check on both of the girls and ask them about their school year.

Charlize Duncain had once again chosen to rather enjoy the peace and quiet the absence of three kids would bring at home- not saying that she had not been beyond happy about Theo's return- and let her husband try and keep control over the chaos that undeniably would unfold.

But when they would finally arrive at the camping area, everything seemed to go quite orderly in comparison to the last trip. There was no setting up of war bases, no pine cone fights. Instead the twins set up their tent in record time and then began to build what looked like a campfire set up.

Theo would grab the magic tent and beckon his friends to follow him a little further away to find a spot hidden by trees, where the tent wouldn't be possibly stumbled over by clueless no-majs.
They would be just about finished setting up the tent, when a voice would echo across the camping area. "THEO, can you set this on fire with magic???"

Alarmed Theo would look up and meet Ana's eyes. He was already on the way to... hm, maybe tie Elias to the campfire, when Ana was faster. Despite the kid having almost outgrown her, she had no problem taking him in a headlock and trip him so he would fall to the ground. Grinning, Theo would turn to his friends again. "So who's going to help me fill his sleeping bag with bugs later..."

Dee had tumbled out of the car with visible relief when they had finally reached their destination. She wasn't used to extended roadtrips; while she had been in the Muggle vehicles for short trips with her Muggle friends in the past, her parents had never owned one. Didn't really need one, of course, being wizards, and it had made them a sort of oddity in the neighbourhood, but then, it worked just fine with the image Alexandra and her herbal medicine shop had in Whitehaven.

Either way, she found she did not really enjoy being locked in a metal box for this long, unable to stretch her legs, held in place by the seat belt. At least Phyllis seemed nice, and Theo had offered candy along the way. His brothers certainly hadn't let the trip get boring. She'd answered their questions - quite possibly exaggerated some parts - and thrown Theo a cheeky grin as she described their adventures in the enchanted maze at the past blossom ball, painting it in grander colours than it had been. No harm in using what she had to impress his siblings, right? It was still weird to her that they were Muggles who knew about magic. Half her childhood had been keeping her family's magic a secret from her Muggle friends.

She was next to useless when building up the tents, although happy enough to hold up the poles while the others did the real work. The weather really wasn't that different from the British summer, she thought idly, although she was rather glad to be far away from home at the moment. Especially from one particular Irish boy. The thought alone had her smile grow forced, a little too tight at the edges to seem natural.

At least Theo was still as easy to be around as she remembered, and she giggled at the sibling antics, all too happy to play along. "With that pyromaniac streak, your brothers would do great at Hogwarts," she mused, then threw him a sideways glance, quirking a smile at the suggestion. "I'm happy to lend a hand, as long as none of the bugs find their way into my sleeping bag." If her manner was a little more subdued than the first time they'd met, it would take a keen eye to notice it.
