It took Winona a couple of weeks to get over a horrible loss she suffered in the dueling club. Even though it was just a practice duel, the loss was a big hit to her fragile ego. But eventually, she found the motivation to continue practicing once again and improve her skills. She had too strong a desire to prove her true potential and talent to give up after one try.

No wonder when the opportunity came for another practice duel, she agreed without thinking about it for a second. Fortunately, this time it was with a student her age. The Gryffindor was not someone she had interacted with before, but it was great to finally have a fair fight and a chance to objectively test her own skills.

Despite not previously having any idea who the moderator was going to be, she was not too surprised to see Lea. Fate is a funny thing, and it seems the Hufflepuff was meant to see how much better Winona has gotten. In fact, her mind was set on displaying perfect sportsmanship just to spite Lea. After pushing her glasses back and readying her stance, she spoke with a little grin on her face, "I'm ready."

Hannah had been wanting to be an auror, like her father, for quite some time. Ever since she saw her father practicing his spell casting for the first time.

She had never duelled before, but now... This would be her first duel, and she was very excited for it. The girl had asked a fourth year, named Lea to mod for her, since she was a duellist, she gladly accepted. Then another girl, Winona to duel against her. They had never interacted, so the duel would be fair.

Hannah was still in her Gryffindor robes, she hadn't had a chance to take them off, but that was completely fine. She had not finished her homework yet, but she would do that later. Hannah had been practicing over the past week for this. She really hoped she would win, but if not, that would be completely fine.

Once she arrived in the duelling club, she observed the dummies stashed away in the corner. The girl was very excited, but also, quite nervous for her first duel. Of course, this was only practice, and she loved Quidditch more than anything, so she would definitely not switch her sport to duelling. Not that she had any plans to switch.

Then, Lea asked them if they were ready. Hannah observed as Winona said yes, and then she nodded. "I'm ready. Let's do this." a grin escaped her mouth. She held her wand tightly, she was most ready to win.

She had expected a lot more words from- either of them really. But both were prepared and so the duel commenced- Lea keeping a watchful eye on the two both for her own curiosity of their skill and too make sure neither of them got too injured. The Hufflepuff had some healing spells, but nowhere near the range of care offered at the Hospital Wing.

Winona showed significant improvement, although it might have been because of a more equal opponent. First to react with the start of the duel, she casted the Tickling Charm towards Hannah, earning her a slight squinted look from Lea as she watched silver light speed across the duelling piste to the Gryffindor who had just begun casting. It hit her squarely, the girl likely working hard to not double over as laughter bubbled out at the impact. Despite that, Hannah would still successfully cast her own spell in retaliation. The Dancing Feet Spell it was, one Lea remembered rather fondly as one of the main spells cast during her first attempts at duelling as well. Unfortunately the tickling and perhaps nerves with the start and a first duel would cause for Hannah's aim to be off, Winona only needing to side-shuffle a few steps in order to keep out of the spell's reach. The purple light flew past before dissipating, almost a signal for the next round to commence.

Lea remained quiet for now, brown eyes quickly glancing between the two. Despite the hit, Hannah seemed a lot more unaffected than the Hufflepuff could ever dream to be although being able to aim while giggling seemed difficult regardless. It was too early to tell how exactly this duel would go, but the fourth year was happy to have agreed to moderate.

With the duel starting, Winona was ready to begin casting spells. With a swift motion of her wand, she voiced the incantation clearly, "Rictusempra." A silver jet of light left the tip of her wand, heading towards the Gryffindor, leaving her in a fit of giggles. It was a relieving thing for Winona to see; missing her first spell would have been very discouraging.

The Slytherin did not have the time to enjoy her successful hit. She was about to give Lea a cocky little stare but quickly noticed a purple beam of light flying towards herself. Being targeted by the tickling charm was apparently not enough to prevent Hannah from casting a spell properly. Fortunately for this time Winona's reflexes were functioning well enough to dodge the spell.

That was close. It is better not to underestimate anyone in a duel. Now it was time to celebrate the first round. Since she did not have any reason to be mean so far, Winona wanted to return the giggles for a few seconds. "Sounds like you're having fun~" she said with a snicker. Despite reacting this way, she knew very well how annoying a stomachache one can feel from being forced to laugh because of the charm.

So far so good, for Winona, for Hannah? Not really. Winona had hit her with a Tickling Charm, which seemed like wouldn't cause much damage, but she started giggling, and she did not enjoy the sensation of the tickling, but eventually she got used to it. She wasn't too affected by it though.

However, before Winona had cast her spell, Hannah had cast her own spell, "Tarantallegra" she said, with determination in her voice. Then, the spell did not work. Hannah wasn't too bummed about this, since her next spell would work, well maybe. It will work, I'm absolutely sure she thought.

Then, she held out her wand and gripped it tightly, then, she held it very close to her mouth and whispered the words "Better not fail me now.", very quietly, so only she would barely hear it. Hannah accomplished her mission. Nor Lea nor Winona had heard it. Well, maybe, but their faces didn't look like they had heard it, so eighter way, she was happy.

The girl had to think a little this time, she had to pick out a good enough spell, that she knew she would not fail in casting, she thought for a few seconds, then she knew exacly which one she would cast. She held out her wand, and she would cast it.

Lea rolled her eyes at Winona's comment, glancing away and towards Hannah to see how she was doing with the continous stream of giggles bubbling out, almost as though at a boil. It seemed hard to concentrate or focus when working against oneself, the Hufflepuff grimacing apologetically with emotionless brown eyes staring out. Such was a part of the duel- although it seemed to have affected the Gryffindor rather significantly as her wand swiveled between aiming at Winona and Lea, a sudden doubling over jerking its aim towards the Hufflepuff. What could have been a nice Knockback Jinx instead was easily sidestepped by the moderator, only offering a raised eyebrow in response. The giggles continued to die down, not quite finished as the spell slowed relinquished control over the Gryffindor. Words caught in the back of her mouth, teeth biting down on her tongue- it was so early in the duel, it was her first duel. She would save her sarcasm for Winona, someone who definitely deserved it.

It was hard to be sarcastic towards one who was successfully casting though. She looked confident and far more in control this time around, the green light speeding across the block to erupt into green flames that hit Hannah's sleeve and danced upwards, a burst of fire that didn't want to extinguish. At the very least, it seemed the giggling stopped- one issue replaced with another rather than two at once. Incendio Duo, a stronger version of the fire-making spell that Lea was certain Winona only learned recently. The Hufflepuff felt a bit bad letting the fire continue but it wasn't her job to interfere, simply make sure neither were too injured and both were following the rules, a slight nod to both as they continued. Not a particularly talkative group, but it was probably for the best as she offered a sidelong glance towards the Slytherin. At least the Gryffindor seemed nice.

The tickling charm followed by Incendio Duo had enough damage to send the feeble Slytherin to the hospital wing a couple of weeks ago. It felt empowering to be in the position to cast those spells herself now. Hannah apparently handled the discomfort of forced laughter pretty well. Now it was time to see how well she could do with green flames.

"Incendio Duo" the incantation, and the movement of her wand led to a successful spell that erupted into flames, eager to burn. The spell was not only more effective than Incendio, but also prettier with the green color of the flames that matched Winona's Slytherin robes. She was clearly in a good mood, grinning about how well the first two rounds went for her.

The unfortunate miss of Hannah's spell towards the moderator caused the Slytherin to chuckle for a moment. "If you're so eager to hit Lea, we can use her as a target dummy after the duel." Well, that was one way to be thankful to someone for being kind enough to moderate a duel for you. Even while making the silly, sarcastic comment, she kept her stance straight and held her wand tightly, ready to continue shooting spells one after another towards her opponent.

Really? Hannah had had it. She didn't expect anything at all from the duel. If she won, she would win, if she lost, oh well. The girl did not care at all.

Then, she cast her own spell, which didn't work at all, but she just ignored it. "Flipendo", it didn't work. The girl rolled her eyes after she chuckled, it was rude, she wouldn't like to be her friend. Just.. whatever. It's my first duel, and ugh, this girl is getting on my nerves.

She was so frustrated that the fire spell almost didn't hurt her at all, well she did not feel it at least. Well, barely, the burning hurt, just a bit, but she ignored it.

After Winona spoke, Hannah realized her voice was rather ugly, and horrid. The girl rolled her eyes out of anger. She was so mad. "You know, I would rather use you as a dummy. Yes, I would most definitely love that. It would be fun don't you think Lea?" she looked at the fourth year. It seemed like Winona and her had something going on. If she responded or not, well that was her choice, but it did seem like a good idea.

Then, she cast her own spell.

It was strange seeing Winona grinning and Hannah rolling her eyes, the different sides at play with Lea in the middle- a little annoyed, a little curious. At least they were talking some more now, an eyebrow raised as the Slytherin mentioned her name, wanting to add in her own quip but stopping herself as Hannah filled in for her. Observant, was she? Lea grinned, a nod of acknowledgement to the Gryffindor. "I already have- and yes, it was quite fun. I do recommend." Except for the poor burning bed and general frustration around the whole experience, but she wouldn't mention it as she turned her attention to Winona. "You can certainly try- maybe this time you'll actually hit?" So much for being an unbiased moderator, but at least Lea would make sure neither got too injured.

Winona had slowly adjusted tactics, going simply for damage this time around and seeing if the strategy would fare better for her than it had Hannah. Both seemed rather prepared as the Slytherin sent forth the bright blue light of a Knockback Jinx, aim accurate and other moving in anticipation. Just barely would accuracy win out, Hannah almost dancing away as the spell connected with her arm and tossed her backwards. The sudden movement was enough to extinguish the fire on her sleeve, although the time in between still caused more burns.

Apparently close calls were plentiful now, both steady and prepared after the introductory rounds. Hannah decided upon the Softening Charm, known for its varied results, her aim a lot more confident and focused as an S formed in the air just before the purple light sped across the block. Winona had successfully kept out of reach the other times, but her luck ran out as her twist still caught a portion of the spell against her side. It could have been worse, the majority of the spell flying past but it also gave Hannah her first success and no longer any effects to worry about as the next round started.
